i love dancing.

i used to go clubbing at least once a week.

I used to choose partners based on dancing skills (this was as disastrous as it sounds and is the one bit of all this i do not miss at all).

then i met dh.

he doesn't like dancing.

i stopped going clubbing really (my fault not his).

also lots of my friends stopped to.

problem is, I REALLY miss it. I'd love to go dancing say once a month. Not to pull. No recreational drugs. Just dancing.

But I don't know where to go anymore.

I like breakbeat, electro, hiphop, rnb, drum and base, rare groove, indie, lots really.

But i have no desire to feel like a plum and be surrounded by gurning 16 year olds.

I'm 34, wearing quite well.

Do you think it's all over and I should reconcile myself to weddings only?

If not, does anyone know a good (not cheesey a la carwash) club night in london or within striking distance with an older crowd where i might like the music?

i know i'll get slated for this but i just miss it so much.

Twiglett · 10/09/2006 20:20

have you considered doing ceroc?

its fun and suitable for all ages

think there's a website for it that lets you search your area .. used to go to one in Fulham at the Leopard Lounge .. its a bar obviously

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 20:20

I miss clubbing too. But when I moved to the UK, all the clubs seemed to have weird footwear rules (no trainers fgs) and I couldn't be bothered. No, I lie, we went out to a 70s club once. Not that tempting.

WelshBoris · 10/09/2006 20:20

Saw lots of middle aged women dancing on Friday night.

With their dresses and matching shrugs, comfortable shoes and jackets. Just incase its cold. Sipping their vodka and lemonade

Bless

I know exactly how you feel. I'm no pro but I have always loved dancing - in any shape or form. I'm 34 and seem to be resigned to dancing around the kitchen with my kids at tea-time. Dh just not that bothered and would need a few pints in him before hitting dancefloor. But ofcourse where do you go to where you won't look out of place? Not enough weddings happening in our circle.

Twiglett · 10/09/2006 20:22

some ceroc venues in London

don't need a partner .. go with a mate and have a few drinks

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 20:24

Is looking out of place that grave a sin?

I mean, I wouldn't want to be in the middle of a whole "pulling" thing, I guess, but I don't really care what sort of place I'm dancing in. I just found UK clubs overly fussy about what you wore (from what I could find out) and really pricey.

I was used to Montreal clubs which were very varied and mellow, generally. Often very mixed clientele (sexual-orientation-wise) and hence less of an obvious "pulling" scene.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/09/2006 20:25

twiglett, i hear what you're saying but and i'm up for starting more formal dance classes too, but I MISS clubbing. i miss getting sweaty and dancing for four hours straight because the music is so good.

you need an all night rave! they're coming back apparently. i just dance around my living room on my own like a prat

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 20:26

Huh, there's a Ceroc place at the end of our road, pretty much. Whatever Ceroc is - looks like tea dances or something?

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 20:27

I saw a chill-out thing for families on Sunday mornings in a club, mentioned in the Guardian or something. Was West London.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 10/09/2006 20:29

Is salsa too cheesey? Or how about a really hardcore dancercise class, there must be a huge choice if you live close to London.
I used to love dancing at clubs too but felt old and hasbeen by the age of 21 . I get freaked out everytime I've ended up in a club the last few years, all those blokes squeezing your arse and coming on to you.

Twiglett · 10/09/2006 20:30

yes ceroc is cheesy .. but I like cheese

southeastastra · 10/09/2006 20:31

i sometimes work at a gym and they do really good exercises with really loud music that always looks fun

NotQuiteCockney · 10/09/2006 20:31

Hmmm, for me, dancing isn't about all doing the same thing at the same time together. It's about relaxing and having fun and enjoying the music.

Twiglett · 10/09/2006 20:31

I think you'll just have to not give a toss about what anyone else is thinking .. get a group of mates together and just GO

stop being a wuss

multitasker · 10/09/2006 20:32

Anyone loving the Ballygowan ad with T-rex Cosmic dancer? Had to go to Limewire and download right away. If it doesn't inspire you to dance nothing will.
