Wow. That is such am amazing thing!

Been to Vimy Ridge; wonderful to know who she is.

throckenholt · 11/09/2006 10:55

what a great thing to have.

Just one question - why is she topless ? What it the relevance of that in the statue ?

Beetroot · 11/09/2006 11:16

In the main statue she is not topless, she is draped.

The statue is meant to be Mother Canada looking over her dead

this is really amazing Beety! I can see why you're proud

Beety how stupendously fantastically overwhelming. I can't imagine how it must feel to look up at a statue of your Grandmother like that. I'm really envious. Wonderful. It sends shivers 9nice ones) down my spine!

When I was in my 20s I was asked to model for a contemorary Aphrodite to be placed outside Lisbon library, I think! The artist couldn't find a Portugese woman he thought was tall enough, and he wanted a contemporary strong athletic looking woman! I didn't do it in the end, i chickened out because i would have had to stand for hours while he took close up photos of every inch of my naked body...but sometimes I regret it! Especially now! I don't think he was going to use my face, just body.

throckenholt · 11/09/2006 11:40

it is lovely.

I just question why she needs to be bare breasted - I am sure I would not wander around topless if I were mourning my sons killed in war !

Beetroot · 11/09/2006 11:41

Blu what an amazing story, I can imagine the thought of being photographed was a bit daunting though. Especially so intimately. I wonder if there is a statue there now

no no. The statue of the Mother of Canada is not bare breasted, the thing she is wearing drapes over her breast. There is another one that is, but I am not sure what that is supposed to represent. There is a naked man as well. There a a few different samller people on the monument
