they ask you what you're doing

almost as though they're judging whether you're social life is as important as theirs

and whilst I'm on the subject .. why do I feel the need to make up some huge excuse why I can't and say things like 'I'm really sorry because I owe you a babysit' when in actual fact I don't and they owe me about 44 zillion babysits for the amount of times I've had their snot-nosed brat

you are allowed to say no. I had a friend like this (well she still is friend but we live much further away now) so i know how you feel and well done saying no

hub2dee · 08/09/2006 09:23

Twig, will ya babyst ?

Thomcat · 08/09/2006 09:23

Are they not just asking what you're doing conversationally?
Like 'oh ok, no probs, so what are you up to anything nice?'
Or are they saying 'hmmmm, you can babysit really bitch you're just saying you can't, so I'll make sure you know that by asking what you're up to anbd putting you on the spot and making you think of a lie.??????

If I asked someone and they said no I'd say 'ok no worries. What are you up to' out of nosiness and politness etc.

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 09:24

"you're" arrrrggghhh .. heads for the hills where Jan and Hunker can't comment

I really try to avoid the whole babysitting game for that reason. I kind of make it clear that it's not what I do. I do playdates and will happily look after children in the day to cover Dr's appt or whatever but I will not babysit at night. Well done for saying no, hard isn't it?

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 09:25

ooo hub .. you know I'd cancel my life to sit with cammy .. she's delicious

I have Cam all day. Dee is working. I am stuck for something to do. Be careful....

Hallgerda · 08/09/2006 09:27

Twiglett, I had credited you with more backbone. Just say no. You do not have to justify yourself. You can tell them that. (I'd avoid actually using the words "snot nosed brat" to their face, mind .)

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 09:27

it was a bloke wot done asked me .. a bloke wot I doesn't like much innit .. he was sent to babysit for us once by his wife who I do like .. and we couldn't get him to leave when we got home so he really killed our mood .. took 45 minutes to get rid of him

I think if it had been his wife there would have been no problem with any of the conversation

ooo Hub .. come over next time and play with me and da moo (she has a fever at the mo otherwise I'd ask you to come now) ..

OP posts:
hub2dee · 08/09/2006 09:30

I haven't been asking to play with a laydee for quite some years now, Tiwg LOL.

Yeah, a terrible temperature of 37.5 degrees, eh, huh ? huh ?

Actually, the last few days I've tried to drive anywhere in London has been a TOTAL MARE. It's a 100% bollox town to drive somewhere in.

I am thinking of hopping on a bus somewhere, or else maybe checking out South Mimms Service Station on the M1

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 09:47

39.2 oi'll 'ave you know .. and dat's after da nurofen

A week or so ago dd had what doc described as "viral rash" all over back etc. and up to 39.9. It wasn't much fun but didn't last long.

Could she be persuaded into warm bath and then she can drip dry ? Really cools body down. Poor moo.

hub2dee · 08/09/2006 10:05

It was funny, the 'out of hours' doc we saw said 'anything above 39 go to hossie' !!!! I didn't think that was current advice at all IYSWIM.

hub2dee · 08/09/2006 10:06

(though perhaps it was associated with the thought that the rash might be something else IYSWIM).

hunkermunker · 08/09/2006 10:07

PMSL - I got to the fifth post and wondered why my name was on the thread

Ah-ha!

Twig, will you babysit for me, please?

Medulla · 08/09/2006 10:07

I wouldn't go to hospital with a temp of 39, it depends what other symptoms child has got surely. If we all did that hospitals would be overwhelmed!

hub2dee · 08/09/2006 10:15

That's what I thought, Medulla ! Seems to be a bit ridiculous.

Hunker, your pedantry precedes you.

Blu · 08/09/2006 10:21

So what are you doing that night?

TheRealCam · 08/09/2006 10:23

Well I've been mentioned too, but hub2dee I thought we were going to keep it a secret

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 10:31

trust you Blu .. always right to the core of the issue

um .. nothing .. I just didn't wanna do it

now I feel like I have to arrange something too

OP posts:
Twiglett · 08/09/2006 10:32

out of hours doc is wrong .. its always been over 40

DD used to have febrile episodes at 40 though so I get slightly more concerned when she gets to about 39.8 but honestly anything under 39 and she gets no special treatment .. I'm dead 'ard me

OP posts:
hub2dee · 08/09/2006 13:49

How is the moo doing, T ? Any better ?
