I've had a dreadful day today.
I phoned the H/A to check on things and was told thet the empty 4 bed still isn't classed as empty yet BUT when it is i won't get it because i am no longer top of the list .
Have to say, i was gobsmacked and asked the gril to repeat it several times. I then asked to speak to someone above her.
The other woman i spoke to said that they aren't allowed to tell me my position on the list. I explained that i had been told twice. First when i was top and now. She said that they shouldn't of told me and that she was not going to confirm or deny it, but then said i'mnear the top.
NEAR isn't top though

So thats it, done finished with, no house, no chance of one for god knows how long. I've finally come to the end. I can't get the council to rehouse me either and i can't be nominated either.
I am still slightly reeling from the realisation that the past two years i've spent ringing people, writing to people, moaning and crying has all been for nothing.
I really don't know what i'm supposed to do now. I really can not cope with 3 kids in a flat for the 6 weeks hols again, it will tip me over the edge.
As for me helping them to get my neighbour evicted, by giving eveidence and putting myself and my kids at risk, well they can P**S OFF

CC - Unfortunatly we wouldn't get any extra tax credit towards rent. We could apply for help with Housing Benefit, but only after we have moved in.

Hi Nutty,
Your response to CC may have answered my queries..

  1. is staying in your current area the top priority? - if not can you register with lots of HA? thus maximising your chances. I'm sure Mumsnetters could give you an insight into particular areas
  2. Private lets - what is the difference between rent of your current property and a private let - could you get Housing benefit for this?.
  3. I have been told (from a reliable source)that a rural private let goes for less money than on ein town - or in other words a nicer house for your money! - would you consider this? sory lots of ???? from somebody who dosn't understand eh!!

I could send you private let info from my county ( and tell you what to avoid!!

wouldnt wheaton aston be a bit boring?

charliecat · 30/03/2004 19:22

Can you not do a preapproval or something like that? Ive heard of these things but im not quite sure what im talking aboutmwhere they would see what you were entitiled too before you do it to see if you can afford it?

nutcracker · 30/03/2004 20:42

CC - Yes you can get pre assessed for help with the rent, but at the very bottom of the form it says that the desicion isn't final and they may not give you the amount stated when you eventually apply for Housing benefit.

Sonnet - I cannot apply to all other H/A because i am already a H/A tennant.

Fio2- Yes it probably would, didn't really think of that.

I have rung Castle Vale again. I am still not overly keen on living there but it has improved a great deal and the primary school results are good. I would also still be close to family and friends.
Anyway i rung them this afternoon and for some reason i still haven't been given medical points despite sending a letter from my psychiatrist. In actual fact, they had no record of me asking to be assessed for medical points. They are going to look in to it and get back to me.

Oh, why do you always have to fight so bloody hard to get things right???? Nothing's ever simple, is it?

Can you keep looking for an exchange?

nutcracker · 30/03/2004 20:56

I do still look at the exchanges SG but because of the probs with the neighbours it's unlikely that anyone would want to exchange with us.

Discovered today that the 4 bed house is now definatly empty (it already was actually).
The official eviction is on the 28th april and then the house will be available to let. No one will be able to move in for a bout 2/3 months though as it is completely trashed.
Had a long conversation with the estates manager today and he said in the nicest possible way that he doesn't think i stand a chance of getting it. He doesn't want me to get my hopes up. He was really helpful and topld me lots of things he shouldn't of. He said he would love us to get it as he knows that we are a decent family who would only improve the street. Unfortunatly the desiion is not his.

I am going to ring up anyway and fight like hell. I know i only have 3 kids and it's a 4 bed but i do feel that all of my other probs (noisey neighbour, medical points e.t.c) should be taken into account.

Oh and he also told me that my noisey neighbour is getting taken to court very soon. Only the judge can decide if she is evicted so nobody is holding their breath, but hopefully he will have some sense.
Oh and everyone in our block with cats have been given 21 days to get rid.

So some good and bad news really. Well my life would be boring if i had nothing to moan about

oh nutty that's sh*.

it's so unfair. surely with 3 kids you should be entitled to a 4 bedroomed house.

is there anything you can do to get in the local paper about it - might help the cause. Councils hate to be seen in a bad light

Nutcracker · 21/04/2004 19:18

KR - It's a housing association, although the council are just as bad.
Although i have 3 kids there is only a 2 year age gap between dd1 and dd2 so they can share.
I wouldn't mind, but the house is almost an identical size to the 3 beds, but it has an extra tiny box room. Anyone would think i was asking for a mansion.

OP posts:
katierocket · 21/04/2004 19:22

Do you know of any incidents where a family of your size have been given a similar size house by the same HA? is there ANYTHING that you can think of that might be of interest to the papers about the HA and that the HA wouldn't want out. any other examples of them not treating you/anyone else fairly?

or you could do something very dramatic and chain yourself to the building! (I mean not really but for effect IFYKWIM) - that'd get the local paper out and get your story out there

Nutcracker · 21/04/2004 19:29

Well i know that they lie and change the rules to suit themselves all the time BUT i can't prove any of it.
I will have to have a good think about everything and see if i can make anything stick iykwim.
Chances are that they will already now have someone in mind for the property.
I wouldn't mind so much if they could just be honest with me and not keep lying and making things up.
The couincil are just as bad though. There is a 3 bed masionette empty near to here and i was told that it couldn't be let as it needed alot of work doing to it. They said if it got offered to someone and they refused it then they would try and shove my name forward. It did get offered and refused, but i haven't been offered it. They are now saying that they didn't offer it to anyone and that it's not fit for let.
