Have many hours of an evening free to do a correspondence/OU type course.

Am struggling to come up with what type of course to do (money is an issue too).

I want to eventually train to be a midwife, so something geared towards that (ie healthcare type stuff) would probably be sensible. BUT I dont know of how much benefit it would be, ultimately (they aer more expensive too).

But, the more "frivolous" type topics (that interest me also) are cheaper.

Help me decided please!

Can you contact a local midwifery college and ask them what would be a good plan?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 11:56

No, because that is too easy

Seriously, I dont think they would endorse anything specifically. They are just bothered that you have the basic qualifications to get on the course in teh first place iykwim.

any course of education, however frivolous will be looked at favourably if you choose to study at university.

it shows your dedication to a course and your desire to be educated further.

if its something that you will enjoy then go for it. it will be good to get your brain working...think of it as a warm up to midwifery

What about a biology type course?

I did human physiology and health after DS1 wa\s born, to get me back into learning and as an extra sciencey thing. it was really interesting. I only did the gcse though as was too scared to do the a level!

Baby massage? They do that at our local adult education college. (hmm. think you need to have a baby though.)

fairyfly · 02/09/2006 12:00

here?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 12:06

True, FM.

MOM, I dont think a GCSE, would have the right interest AND benefit level, ultimately iykwim?

Thanks for link FF. I was looking at that, but its a heck of a lot of money for me

breast feeding counsellor?

MerlinsBeard · 02/09/2006 12:08

they do it at a level too but if u are wanting something for qualification rather than getting back to learning it may be worth having alook at your local college. I was told that as a "mature" student an access into health was looked upon favourably

popsycal · 02/09/2006 12:08

ignore that - just re read the oP

fairyfly · 02/09/2006 12:10

qv, a lot of ways round the money issue if you were adamant you wanted to get going.

You can pay in monthly installments or you can actually get a loan in the same way you would for uni. One that you don't pay back until you're earning a substantial amount.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 12:10

Really MOM? Just gotta find £500 from somewhere though.....hmmmm

Popsy...thats not necessarily such a bad idea in the scheme of things....could do it as well as...

No idea how i would go about doing that though..suggestions, anyone?

Well I am working FF, which is the time that I will be using to study...

So since I live in London, and any earnings over £5 per hour is considered more than enough earnings by government/educational establisments, I doubt I would get help. Unless the fact that I have two children makes a difference.....?

Copntact your local branch of the NCT or other bfeeding support place - or email their head office.

MerlinsBeard · 02/09/2006 12:15

have a look on the university website where u hope to do midwifery. It should tell u on there what you need to 'get in' then you can have a look round.

fairyfly · 02/09/2006 12:15

How about something like this

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 12:16

Oooh - is that what you do then? Didnt know that you had to fill out forms and everything to become a breastfeeding militant....

er I mean "counsellor".......

I might well do that as well then.

when i was at college if your household earnings were less than £25k you got the course paid for.

don't know if thats any use?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 12:17

LOL FF - im getting that one for free at work

I work in a hospital..........its mandatory

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/09/2006 12:18
