x-posted humphryecusion!

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 14:43

I've definitely taken flasks of hot coffee in.

I've also taken a bottle of wine and my Lexan, collapsible wine glasses as well.

ocd · 28/08/2006 14:44

a tnet to stay the night

and a worktop dishwasher

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 14:47

Well, hey, if they're not licensed to sell alcohol, then it goes to follow it's BYOB.

Hot cocoa in a flask sounds good, though. A good idea for winter cinema-going.

Blandmum · 28/08/2006 14:48

we smuggle popcorn etc in. We buy drinks there if we need them.

Dh and I went to see on the of the LOTR films (2 hours plus) at 7 and so didn't have time to eat first. We smuggled in a take away pizza from the resturant next door to the cinema!

It was rather wonderful

I have tried to take in my slow cooker, but couldn't find a plug close enough to ours seats

foxtrot · 28/08/2006 14:48

sorry to hijack, but expatinscotland, do you have recipe for your hot buttery popcorn please? i just bought a bag of kernals coz i freaked at the amount of salt in the microwave stuff but have no idea what to do with it!

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 14:52

I have an air popper, fox. B/c really what I prefer are white kernals to yellow. They give a fluffier popcorn.

I melt the butter in the microwave and then add what I fancy - seasoned salt or spices, parm cheese, etc.

Then I use a ladle to mix it in.

Mmmmm.

My all-time fav is Lowry's Seasoned Salt.

DH likes grated white cheddar.

ocd · 28/08/2006 14:54

with cheese?
yuk

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 14:55

He loves it!

I'm not a cheese person myself.

I prefer butter and salt.

nailpolish · 28/08/2006 14:58

i remember smoking in the cinema

the little ashtrays

hulababy · 28/08/2006 14:58

We always take our own sweets, chocolate and drinks to the cinema and theatre.

Quadrophenia · 28/08/2006 14:58

Our cinema do a cheap pound a showing club on a Saturday, its the only way we can affrd for us to go as a family, we buy all our sweets before hand and realistically a family of six can go to the cinema for a tenner!!

littleducks · 28/08/2006 15:01

My sil taught me cheapskate trick put popcorn kernals in a brown paper bag scrunch up top and microwave like the expensive bags of ready made stuff until you hear less pops and voila popcorn. Haven't tried flavours yet i sprinkle with salt but there is a whole thread somewhere that i will be trying flavours from, beats a popcorn maker anyday.

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 15:05

i've always burnt popcorn like this, littleducks.

fullmoonfiend · 28/08/2006 15:23

at £2 for a bottle of water (or a fruit shoot ) damn right we take our own! I have even been known to nick a couple of opocorn boxes from the counter to decant our own into
And when we went to see LOTR trilogy for dh's birthday, it was like a bring and share supper - everyone was sharing wine, whisky, pizza etc. Great craic!

expatinscotland · 28/08/2006 15:23

what a brill idea, fullmoon!

must try this!

I am perplexed too by those who can't manage 90 mins without food but if I were one,I wsould deffo take my own food and drinks.

My sister and her flatmate used to smuggle a winebox into the library and wedge it between the books when revising for their finals.

ocd · 28/08/2006 16:49

me too mooney but hey ho
i do like a refreshers chew

nikkie · 28/08/2006 17:06

We smuggle too! I do have a weakness for the crisp things they sell though.
We pay over £5 each so can't afford to buy their food as well!

fullmoonfiend · 28/08/2006 22:20

It's a pavlovian reflex Mooney - I've usually scoffed me popcorn and am well into the malteasers before the main feature starts. Anyone want a minstrel?

wanderingstar · 28/08/2006 22:30

Agree with ocd you're not going to die of hunger for the duration but
.... if I'm taking my 3 eldest (no4 is a total animal at 2.5 years) + a friend or 2, it's very expensive just for the tickets, so I try to bring some treats to stop them all whining for cardboard popcorn and blue drinks in a vast beaker sold at an eye watering price.
They'd doubtless prefer what's sold at the cinema, but tough !

Plus I thought Pirates 2 was really dire so I admit I ate out of boredom (but twas Waitrose unsalted nut/fruit mix)

I'm not fat.

eidsvold · 28/08/2006 23:23

we take our own jaffas - can't go to the movies without jaffas
