He just rang to tell me.

Two weeks ago his car was broken into (alarm wasnt set so we didnt know until the morning) and his radio and some loose change was taken. It caused a nightmare because when they scooped up the loose change the took the immobiliser key that was mixed in with it. DP spent all morning the next day trying to disable it so he could get the car started. We didnt bother reporting it because he hadnt set the alarm and the radio was cheap.

Anyway, last night, at about 1.30am, we were in bed, suddenly heard a loud bang on our car and then the alarm went off (DP had been meticulous in setting it since the break in). We jumped up instantly (our bed is under the window) to see one of next doors sons running towards his house, he looked up for a second then ran inside. DP went out to investigate, and whilst out, heard a window open in a bedroom and someone say "what did you do?".

I rang my brother (who is a policeman) and he said to report it. DP didnt want to because of the time of night and because I have work this morning, so was going to ring them this morning. After dropping me off at work, he decided not to ring the police, but to knock and get them to deal with it themselves. The wife opened the door first and didnt believe what DP had said, giving it the mock shock "NOOO????, NOOOO???, my boys wouldnt do that" etc. He tells me he re-iterated several times that he didnt want any trouble, but he didnt want it happening again. She then said she had heard the alarm going off, and had gone to the toilet, and on her way back checked the boys were in bed (er why? they are teenagers) and that one was asleep on the floor, and the ohter asleep on the bed. At which point the husband came down the stairs, cursing and swearing and telling DP to "fuck off, off my property etc etc" He then squared up to DP and offered him out!!!!!!! (DP wasnt phased by this at all btw but its not the point although DD was with him, albeit not right next to him).

We have to live next door to these people.....they have been ignorant twunts at teh very best of times, and now this......I know its evil to wish ill on someone, but, i just wish they would go away. Very very far away.

(This is the same twunt i posted about the other week who had shunted his other neighbuors car a foot backwards whilst trying to park his van - i didnt do anything about it in the end.....wish i had now)

Bloody hell, will the police help?

gothicmama · 27/08/2006 10:11

you should keep a log and report it to if your area has them the CSO's if your dp saw the boys doing the car then he should report them if not report and say he believes it is xx and xxx because their dad called tehm in . Peopkle like this only get a way with anti social behavioue cos they try to bully everyone

Mum2FunkyDude · 27/08/2006 10:13

It is always a problem when it is your neighbours, I would still call the police and report it, if you have a series of reports you can then take them on, but if you keep quiet the bullying and trouble will just get worse.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 10:19

Hmmm. It's just that, since we approached them first, surely that makes reporting it a) a bit late! and b) aggravating an already now tense situation.

They already play loud music, have lots of rowdy weekend BBQ's (I woke up a few weekends ago to find a load of people asleep in their garden when i opened the curtains - thats how late it went on to), we've had to knock when DIY has gone on until gone 10pm at night. I dont want what they already do to get worse iykwim.

Have to say, the wife is usually pretty good, and apologetic - its just him.....

and their boys.....

Nothing to add, but very pissed off for you.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 10:34

Thanks UCM..

has it gone too far for you to invite them round for a beer and 'we have to live next door to each other, don't want any grief etc etc. I know this would be hard to do but I am thinking that it's going to be horrid for you in the future. If not, I think the only thing for you to do is report it to the police and ignore them completely. Thats the only thing I could think of.

all4girlz · 27/08/2006 10:42

Not sure what to say appalled by the dad's behaviour --really gets my goat because it is never their littlelamb

Keep a digital/video camera handy maybe and get them on film if they or any one else has a go at your car I would also keep a log/viual record of noise / people in garden etc to back up what you have already suffered for police or environmental health/ landlord etc cameras now they wont even know you have them on film
sorry to read this some people are just plain horrid
{{{virtual hugs}}}

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 10:49

Thanks...

all4 - thats what DP just (he just rang again) that when you knock on someones door, you at least expect them to find out the facts first before effing and blinding and outright denying that your precious little angel hasnt done anything.

He just rung me to say that what had obviously happened last night was our wing mirror had been knocked/hit/kicked as it was hanging off (its one of those collapsible sort so easily clicked back in). He also noted as he was driving down the road to take the littlies to the park that a load of cars up the road had been smeared with some sort of "lard" looking substance and swear words written with it.......This boy was obviously on a mission last night.

I just said to DP i might just report it to the police now, and he says he thinks it will just make them even worse. Dont know what to do for the best.....Dont want them in my house for beers - would be too worried now that "he" would be casing the joint....sounds terrible, doesn it?

Blimey how awful! We once had a neighbour who hated us and poured weedkiller on our roses! In the end we all retreated into silence which was horrible for my family. It is an awful situation and I am really sorry. Can the council not do anything? Even if it is not council property they will come out to noise and disturbances and try to sort situations out.

all4girlz · 27/08/2006 11:00

I hate that they have no respect --what ever happened to not s* on your own door step!!
(not that they should do it any where else)

If there are a few damaged cars could you report it through crimestoppers anon and then the police might knock on every ones door incl next door asking about criminal damage?

on record then
jx

lol at on a mission they really are scum !!

Hollyboo · 27/08/2006 11:16

You gave them the chance to deal direct about this so now you have no choice but to get the police involved. It's horrible having to live near people like this and my heart goes out to you because you can't talk sensibly to them, they just won't get it. Don't think the husband will come down the stairs shouting abuse at a policeman. If you do involve the police and your neighbours try any sort of intimidation on your family, at least the police are aware of the situation.

rustybear · 27/08/2006 11:17

Something to remember: if you own your house & ever want to sell it you have to tell the buyers about disputes with neighbours - if you have made an official complaint to the police or council. If you don't you can be sued.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 11:23

that is a good point rustybear....

Although, im rather hoping that they will move.....

QV you have my sympathy. Yesterday an 18 year old Lithuanian Dickhead who has just moved into the flat next door to our house shouted 'f*uck of' to my kids because they were talking in the street outside his bedroom window, on their way out, when he was trying to sleep. 1030am! dh lost it with him and he stated leaping about making 'I'll slit your throat' gestures and had to be restrained by his parents.

My kids are really scared now and keep talking about it.

It's a horrible situation to have this kind of bad energy on your doorstep isn't it?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 12:36

Unpleasant, isnt it.

You can't just close your door on it either, because its right "there" next to you all the time.

OP posts:
SaintGeorgeMarple · 27/08/2006 13:24

Mucho sympathy.

Keep a diary, with digi photos of any events and damage too if you can.

I would hold off reporting it for now. I doubt the police would do much without proof, they would class it as a civil dispute. As someone has already said, putting it on record isn't a great idea these days if you intend selling.

If OTOH you can collect a record of repeated incidents over time and then involve the police/council in going for an ASBO, the stuff on record at that point wouldn't matter as they would be on file as the bad guys.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 21:17

Thanks StG....

Just wanted to offer my sympathy ,i know what it is like to have horrible neighbours and it isn't nice ,infact it made me feel quite ill.
Definately keep a log of everything they do ,time ,date etc.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/08/2006 21:47

Well, indeed PFNM. DP has just disappeared upstairs with a migraine

Inevitable really - he has had a piss poor nights sleep, and been incredibly stressed.

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 27/08/2006 21:53

Nothing productive to add, but just wanted to add my sympathies (i know how horrid it is to live next to "difficult" neighbours - as you know).
