I posted a while ago about the fact that I was movig to Glasgow and possibly to the southside!
Well, I am ow very happily settled in Crossmyloof and wanted to say a HUGE thankyou for all the help and advice you southsiders gave me in choosing to live here. We have, for us most importatly. a church, but also swimming classes, info about other things going on, somewhere to shop (!!!tesco at Pollok - for a mummy from the hebrides, a total revelation!!!), and so much else - within walking distance of that fabby new playground in Pollok Park, we found some great wee shops in Shawlands!
Thanks ladies, I love it already. I cant get to the Scotland meet up (or is it past- have been moving for a few weeks so a bit out of mn touch with stuff - suppose it is over as dd starts school Monday) - but I wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate all the help you gave me in choosing to live here and if you want to CAT me - hey, lets have coffee and you can give me some more tips!!!!

Thanks girls, it has meant a lot as we settled in!

Hi Harrisey - great to hear your move went well. I'm not quite in Glasgow - 45 mins outside at Loch Lomond - if you ever fancy the scenery then drop me a line . Am I right in thinking you and your dh were starting a Bible school course?

harrisey · 20/08/2006 01:31

Bobsmum - thats us! Currently writing some essays for direct entry to 2nd yr - driving me mad!!!
Might well try to get out to Loch L soon - need some country air!

Crossmyloof is a great area for you, nice choice! I went to school there so know it pretty well. Can I just recommend a FAB cafe near you (just up from Pollokshields West station) called Moira Jane's - dh and I go there whenever we're home, great food, lovely service, nice to just wander up to for coffe and cake. And pretty child friendly too (if a little bit cramped!) - plus the shops around there are really nice - wee deli's, grocers, flower shop etc.

Hope you settle in well and enjoy living in Glasgow. I can't wait to move back. Can't tell you how homesick I am just now! Though I am coming home on Friday for 2 weeks - yay!

bobsmum · 20/08/2006 20:36

Harrisey - are you at Glasgow Bible College (is that ICC now?)? What course are you doing? I'd love to meet up with some other likeminded mums in the GLasgow area IYKWIM

KristinaM · 20/08/2006 20:40

Hi Harrisey - hope your wee one gets on OK at her new school tomorrow. Guess it will be a big change for her

What church are you going to now? I know lots of good ones in that area

BTW I have lived near a city all my life and Tesco at Pollok was a shock to me too

ja9 · 20/08/2006 20:46

err, can i ask what is so good about pollok tesco?

LieselVonTrapp · 20/08/2006 21:34

Harrisey
You made the right choice - Im just outside of Glasgow on the north side. LOVE IT

harrisey · 21/08/2006 21:18

The Tesco at Pollok is the biggest in the UK I think! As I moved from a place with a co-op and one of the Somerfields that Morrisons didnt want, it is a revelation to me. I'm such a country bumpkin!
Bobsmum - thats right we are going to ICC, starting in Sept. Its the BTh course we are doing, dh just the straightforward one, and me (probably) with the cross-cultural specialism. I'd love to meet up sometime, do feel free to CAT me.
Kristina, dd1 had a great time at school. it was a bit of a culture shock going from a single teacher set up to a class of 28, with (...gasp...) boys in the class! But she did really well. Ds started nursery today too and really enjoyed it.
We're going to Queen's Park Baptist church - have been along for a few weeks now and are loving it. The kids stuff is fabby and so professional - its great to sit through the adult part of the service and not be distracted by kids. Its a great modern lively church and right up my street!
Thanks for asking anyway.

Bobsmum, I am quite near Loch Lomond! Anyone fancy a Loch Lomond meet up?

Gillian76 · 25/08/2006 09:03

Glad to hear you're well and settled harrisey. Wishing you all success and happiness xxx

harrisey · 25/08/2006 09:12

I'd come to that and I'm on the Southside!

Count me in.

harrisey · 28/08/2006 09:16

Do any of you who live on the southside know anything about mother and toddler groups in the shawlands/surrounding area? Want to try to find something for dd2 to go to inthe morning while the other two are at school/nursery. Thanks.

Harrisey - glad to hear that you are settling in.
There was a sign in Victoria Cafe (on Victoria Road - runs parallel to Polloshaws Road, near the entrance to Vicotrai Park), about a Mums & Toddler Group, I think in Albert Drive.

BTW - where is the new playground in Pollok Park? Sounds like something ds would enjoy.

Where are you going to swimming classes?

I may even have "seen" you some time when you are dropping your kids off at school/nursery - I cycle past the Gaelic school at about 8.30 on ym way to work, which is just along the road (towards the city centre).

prettybird · 28/08/2006 10:39

Actually - I'm having a brainstorm - it's not Victoria Cafe, it's Queens Park Cafe - and it's not Victoria Park (which is on the North side), it's Queens Park. It is still Victoria Road though! Sorry for confsuing you.

prettybird · 28/08/2006 10:40

... does really nice ice creams, which is why I noticed the sign: ds and I had cycled over to Queens Park and we'd gone there for an ice cream before going home.

harrisey · 28/08/2006 12:43

prettybird -
swimming classes are at Shawlands Academy on a Friday night or Sunday lunchtime, might even be able to rustle up the mobile number, if I can I'll cat you. The adventure playground is by the Burrell car park - its fab, my kids love the death slide thingy - even 2yo dd2!
There seem s to be a kind of feeling for a Glasgow/L. Lomond meet up, so watch out.
I am loving Glasgow, no regrets at all, except the terrible smell of traffic fumes I am sure I will shake after a while!

prettybird · 28/08/2006 13:08

It's OK - I think I have those details. Anyway, I've managed to get ds into swiming classes at the Gorbals pool which has now re-openned. 9.00 on a Sunday. Not the best of times for me (no lie-in! ), but at least it means it's over and done with and we have a chance to do a few things before taking ds to his rugby at 12.45 (Mini Rugby at Cartha Queens Park, just as you go on to the M77 - open to both girls and boys from P1 upwards.)

HI Everyone - how about Loch Lomond Shores for the next meet up?

It's very child friendly. There's a Ceramic Experience painting cafe with soft play, the new Sea Life centre (a bit pricey though), woodland walks, the fair, nice cafes, great outdoor playground etc etc.

About 30 mins drive from Glasgow and 20 for me!

Hi, I am not far from the southside, glad you are settling in.

bobsmum · 28/08/2006 14:09

Aimsmum - Balloch station is a 5/10 minute walk from Lomond Shores.

prettybird · 28/08/2006 14:43

Harrisey - have I been very slow and missed something, but are you an old mumsnetter who had been away fro a while, and have changed name?

If so, I had been thinking about you recently and thinking we hadn't heard from you.

I've jsut put 2 and 2 otgether and think have made 4 - it was the Mirena coil thread that gave me the light bulb moment!
