If you were a sexy young flirty thing once, how do you avoid becoming a sad old leery woman?

OK, not the best of titles, but let me explain...

Let's say that in your teens, twenties and early thirties you were an attractive, sexy young thing:

  • got lots of attention
  • found work, socialising etc easy - you always seemed popular
  • no shortage of boyfriends when young and admirers even when older
  • you liked a bit of a flirt, and to some extent your 'personality' was related to your sexuality...

then wham... along comes motherhood, ageing, an extra stone in weight and suddenly you can't 'be' who you were before without seeming like some sort of leery old woman??

Is this what 'growing old gracefully is all about?'

What if you don't want to?

65/22 - eeeurgh! Bit too much for me! A 10 year age difference was about as much as I managed. When I think that he is now 50+ it seems a lot!

Its about toying with the unknown and the forbidden too.

mustrunmore · 05/08/2006 22:11

Dh is 9 years older, and I always used to find that sexy , but wish he was a bit older still. Now I dont really notice the age gap at all.

noddyholder · 05/08/2006 22:11

Wear dark clothes to look slim and dark glasses to leer without looking sad Or accept where you are and get on with it

NormaSnorks · 05/08/2006 22:11

Weight is definitely the main thing that ages you though isn't it? I have a friend who steadfastly maintains that the best thing any woman who is lacking confidence in mid-life can do is lose a stone (assuming they have it to lose!)

Weight, and not knowing anything in the real world except whats going on in cbeebiesland.

Caligula · 05/08/2006 22:15

Dunno - I've also been told you have to choose between your face or your body. (And if you choose your body your face will become wizened and wrinkly)

mrsbang · 05/08/2006 22:17

Ah yes, toying with the unknown...

in my mind you understand.

Weight - mmm, lose too much though and you go gaunt - and that ages you even more.

NormaSnorks · 05/08/2006 22:19

Mmm, yes skinny and gaunt not good either... so then maybe it is muscle tone.... yes, the right weight and good muscle tone...??

Said 18 year old (now 19 I hasten to add) still flirts...

Sadly, he's also told me about his new girlfriend - he obviously likes older women, cos she's all of 21, rofl.

Mrs Robinson figure or a mother-figure? lol

mrsbang · 05/08/2006 22:21

A big smile and twinkly eyes is probably far more important lol.

Gobbledigook · 05/08/2006 22:22

I agree with HC, there's no excuse for not flirting

NormaSnorks · 05/08/2006 22:24

Highlight of my (recent) working life was when a long-standing member of my team, 7 years younger than me, confided at a drunken office party that he found me sexy and attractive because I 'was so bl**dy good at my job'.....
Much more satisfying than 'nice tits' or 'good legs'

Normasnorks I don't know whether to laugh or cry reading this.

You have hit a raw nerve with me.

I need to lose at least a stone to feel remotely attractive again. Not that I am looking to pull, but it would be nice to know I could if I tried!

Toyah Wilcox had her face lift to sort this problem . She got to 40 something and suddenly felt invisible

TambaIsBadBadBad · 07/08/2006 00:38

Hmmm am already past half way to 40

Tortington · 07/08/2006 01:10

its confidence.

i hope i grow old without class. class is so very boring.

i want to fuck when i am 90 - if my dh is dead i'll do the gardener. i will go to pub all glitsed up.

i once went to a pub with a friend whose mum worked behind the bar - it was one of the old fogie pubs - a regular old bird with the nickname "tinsel tits" becuase she was always dolled up to 9's and glittery. some younger patrons took the piss behind her back.

i thought to misel - fantastic - i hope i am like that at 75 - better than sitting in an old folks home wondering why my children dont visit and getting bitter about it whilst wondering who to complain to next and what to complain about becuase i havent had much conversation today.

pussyinboots · 07/08/2006 01:15

lol Custy hope I do too... nothing worse than being a complaining old bastard...you can still be a sexy chick at as a Grandmother mine still has her old hunks that visit her bringing teddies and flowers lol
