swap it with the staff room. If 12 x 19 is you probable dimesions I can have a go with that, is there anything else in the ones I drew that aren't right, what about the number of loos is that OK.

Are you going to just have a spacious central hall or do you want it big enough to play in I.E. climbing frames, large blocks etc. Is the seperate sleeping area not required for 0-2, the one I worked in didn't have a seperate room but sometimes they had to put babies in the office if they didn't sleep at the right times.

Do you need fire exits from each big room? which side of the building is the garden likely to be on or is it all around. Each room could have its own door to the outside area. ONe nursery near me has seperate gardens for each, smaller areas to play in but easier for staff to monitor their own kids and doors can be left open most of the day and kids are free flow.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 11:14

I think I'm going to try for 12 x 15

They will each have their own garden area (the babies & maybe 2-3's) having a covered deck

There will be a separate area - but it is counted in the 21sqm

I'm hoping that the OOS & central area could be separated (with concertina doors?) so we could use it as one area?

I am trying my best with the 12x15 but it leaves little for a shared area, I got quite a good design then realised there were no loos oops!

Difficult to fit it all in and still have decent access to all the rooms.

Concertina or sliding doos sound like a great idea, I like dht eidea of all the rooms having double doors on to the central area so that each room can have certain times when they have free flow to the centre room. Even though I can't get much more than a corridoor at the moment .

Have you been able to visit other nurseries with a similar construction, might give you mores ideas of what is possible and what you like and don't like.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 20:45

Is the one I sent you 12 by 15?

I'm so bloody confused now - I don't know whether I'm coming or going

Just to be a pain but remember the walls them selves will take away from your sqmt, although not to much with portacabin walls.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 20:46

I am hoping that the younger children wil have mixed loos and that the older children (10yrs +)will use the adult loos

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 20:48

I think it was 12 by 15, but I tried to shuffle it around to get better access to the kitchen and there doesn't seem to be enough space for all the loos unless you only have one set of loos split male/ female perhaps accessed from the central area. much cheaper and you can fit the minimum required rather than trying to get loos for each room.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 20:54

I thought I had a disabled & a staff (ie M&F) plus a block accessable from centre (for OOS) plus from 2-3 & 3-5's?

or not

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 20:59

The plan you sent me had the 2 adult m/f loos and one big sq of other toilets, not sure how many you could fit in there. Perhaps see how many you need in total and work from there. Not sure how big disabled loos have to be and can these be counted in child total loos if they are for staff also????? I am not up to speed with the latest regs.

Skribble · 06/08/2006 21:03

Can you not double the size so I can have my lovely plan, I based it on the scandinavian nurseries I had been in. Outside areas are pretty much accessible all the time and they have a sort of soft play/ romper room which they use as a chill out room too.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:06

1 toilet every 10 children over the age of 2

so 16 3-5
8 2-3
12 at school

36

and 4 little loos

that's OK

I'm not sure where I got the children over 10 needing B&G loos - I can't find it now

OP posts:
Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:08

Sure have it as big as you want in MN world

However as I have to pay for it (well borrow the money from the bank) can I have it as small as possible whilst still having everything I need?

I am so unreasonable

Also it does have to fit in a half an acre field and leave room for the schools sports and for outside play for the nursery

OP posts:
Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:13

I could just buy this

but you can see why I don't want to

OP posts:
Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:18

I sent you a layout.....no as good as yours but kinda OK (& only £40K)

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 21:27

Aw come on have I got to work out the loos myself? .

That plan looks very stingy with the loos they only seem to have 3 for kids and 1 staff loo.

Mindyou I worked n a 60 place nursery that had 4 kids loos and 1 adult, no disabled. But that was a few years ago now.

What about loos outside, organic composting loos, compost can be used to grow lentils .

Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:30

Well in the cr*p nursery there were 3 loos in a 3x3 box - so I think I'm being very fair with a 4 by 2 box for 4 loos - d'ya think?

And a disabled loo is about 1.5 by 2.5 (which is a really cr*p dimension to work with) - I simply made it the same for the staff loo

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 21:36

I think you might need 4x3 as the cubciles will take up alomost 4x2 so space needed for basins.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:42

Well it fits into 15 by 15.....with a centre space of 7 by 7

OP posts:
Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:47

I got itin to 12 by 15 with a centre of 6x6 - then realised I had no way it.....but actually that might work as you could go into each room from outside?

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 21:48

15x15 now you are talking . Are you managing to plan it all out or can I have another go .

Skribble · 06/08/2006 21:49

Do you mean kids arriving go direct into each room from external, much harder to keep secure surely.

Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:50

Of course you can have another go

I'm really cr*p at it

I just want a nice office and a nice kitchen

Did you like the one I sent you?

OP posts:
Katymac · 06/08/2006 21:51

Yes - it would be harder - but also maybe easier to control access - mind you what about visitors (and please report to reception

OP posts:
Skribble · 06/08/2006 22:34

What do mean nice office my plans have you sharing it with the staff room and probably the kitchen too .

TBH I would stick to one access point next to the office so you can sit in comfort and survey who is accessing you kingdom, Classrooms themselves will be very busy first thing in the morning and signing in and out should perhaps be central and controled before accessing classrooms themselves.

I could the 15x15 a proper go and to scale.
