God I HATE that advert - which other adverts seem to be written by men....

Aside from Vagisil of course!!

The advert in question is that one for a loo cleaner where the woman has just had a baby and has her "friends" over. One asks to use the loo and the glamorous looking mums main concern is that the loo is clean. The friend in question goes into the loo looking all critical but is so pleased as the loo is clean. Aarggh - when I had my dd I couldn't give a flying you know what if my loo was spotless, I certainly didn't look glamorous and if any of my friends had turned up being critical of my loo cleaning abilities she would probably got a severe tongue lashing. Definitely written by a man me thinks.

Are there any other adverts out at present that are obviuosly written by men

When you were at ASDA head office?!?!
Why were you there?

Jackstini · 03/08/2006 12:42

Yesterday morning - I am a supplier.

m1m1rie · 03/08/2006 12:50

Halifax give you Extra (yes, hassle, grief, charges etc, etc....)
Tesco, Every Little Helps (us)
Picture Finance - why is his wife filming him whilst he talks on the phone arranging a loan? And why is he such a tw*t?
Diamond Car Insurance - are there still young men named Roger and would girls go out with them if there were?

cremolafoam · 03/08/2006 13:33

i really want picture finance man to fall over the son's skateboard.

also the Alan sugar one- can't watch without thinking of john culshaw.

Jackstini · 03/08/2006 14:31

And anything financey with Carol Vorderman or Carol Smilie on. In fact any of those loan/debt/payment/injury lawyers ads. All of them get on my nerves

cremolafoam · 03/08/2006 14:49

Seriously, giraffeski?
OMG.
I am so cross about that advert - I'd love to see a survey telling us how many men would like to settle down and get married and have children as opposed to those who don't. And quite how they expect to do it if they keep repulsing women with their fixation on 'freedom' or running away from their long-term girlfriends the minute they reach 35.

WideWebWitch · 03/08/2006 17:13

ha ha ha at this thread, esp cappucino 'open the wine' and cupcakes spiralling into debt, ha ha.

We mute the ads so I rarely notice them. Interesting about oil thoguh, you're right, why are there no oil ads any more? God, they're sexist aren't they and 2 Cs in a K is vile.

It sounds so churlish, complaining about it, doesn't it?
Like I'm personally a scared, lonely 35-yr-old who'll rustle up a five-year plan the minute I meet a bloke who'll let me cook his breakfast.
When the reality is a bit more like, well, women kind of know they need men to make it all work, but ffs many women would actually prefer not to have to be arsed with dealing with their pathetically selfish outlook on life.
Obviously that is harder to make an advert out of, though.

Barrel of laughs, eh?

It makes me deeply uncomfortable too, mainly because my BIL just dumped his 35-yr-old girlfriend - because he felt the relationship was going badly, fair enough - and the concensus among the family is that she frightened him off by panicking about having babies.

FFS she is 35, what is she meant to do, keep schtumm until he brings it up? Pretend she isn't bothered and hope that reverse psychology works?

It turns women, and children too, for that matter, into some sort of caricature that is neither true nor fair. I would like to get those bastards at the ad agency and subject them to a very long rant about how they've set things back fifty years, but I suspect I'd just be another humourless feminist to them.

Salamander · 04/08/2006 11:59

I hate Coke Zero's whole ethos.
it disgusts me.

Going onto a different advert though - can't believe it hasn't been mentioned already - esp by me!

Norwich Union Quote Me Happy!
What an annoying load of old crud!!

I've phoned them as one of a bunch of insurers on my past two renewal dates, and neither time did they quote me happy.
on one occasion they quoted me very UN-happy!
They sent me ON MY BIRTHDAY a suggestion that my birthday is a time to think about life insurance as I may not be around for the next one!

Needless to say, I piled all the sht back into the envelope (freepost) and wrote in black marker THANKS* A LOT FOR BEING NASTY PEOPLE AND INCONSIDERATE FOR SENDING THIS ON MY BIRTHDAY

If I get any more, the litter tray is looking tempting...

cremolafoam · 04/08/2006 12:01

agree about quote me happy. it drives me round the bend.

Salamander · 04/08/2006 12:06

I always shout at them "I'll quote you happy you bas*ds!"

don't think it does any good

Freckle · 04/08/2006 12:15

Oh yes, let's all ring NU, merely give the type of car (mine's a hatchback/people carrier) and see them come up with a quote in 2 seconds flat. I've never managed to get a quote without being on the phone for at least 10 minutes, giving my life history and living habits, etc.

Salamander · 04/08/2006 13:17

Norwich Union are quite clearly Wa*rs

alexsmum · 04/08/2006 13:32

can't believe nobody has mentioned the one with the cartoon female creature saying she can't believe she is the only one in the house who cares about smells, and how embarrassing it would be if someone came for coffee and the house didn't smell fresh! really fucking annoying!!!!!!!!
