Forget the first two, they are in Hounslow - what am I thinking of...

How about Twickenham

we must have lived quite close cece, I lived in linkfield road. You're not the horrible woman who bought my house are you?

cece · 01/08/2006 10:41

no used to live in Layton Road years ago and then moved to Central Ave for a while... No longer in Hounslow...

cece · 01/08/2006 10:41

Linkfield Road is that where the Red Lion is???

suejonez · 01/08/2006 10:55

No near Isleworth station

suejonez · 01/08/2006 10:56

Ooh is it the Red Lion, there was a pub across the road but I can;t remember what it was called as i didn't use it much - was a London Apprentice girl!

cece · 01/08/2006 10:58

oh how funny! We used to go there and the Town Wharf many moons ago. We were students at Borough Road, so have lived in various roads in Isleworth. Ridgeway Road and Woodlands Grove!

foxinsocks · 01/08/2006 10:58

Hanworth is worth looking at aswell - and Hampton (Hampton Hill) and the schools are good in Hampton.

also, don't rule out other areas of W, SW London but you really have to look hard

a house across the road from us went on the market for £260k (in Tedd). 3 beds, downstairs bathroom, no central heating. Annoyingly, it got snapped up by a property developer - we got quite a few friends to go and ask to look at it and the estate agents told them they wouldn't even consider showing them round (because they were waiting for a cash paying property developer ggrrr!!)

suejonez · 01/08/2006 11:03

I also went to the Town Wharf as it was generally less busy then LA, moved in 1999 but lived there 10 years and have fond memories of the area.

suejonez · 01/08/2006 11:04

Haven't seen Bunyanvillas around, d'you think we've bored her away!

cece · 01/08/2006 11:05

Probably!

I moved to the area in 1986. Had moved to Hounslow by 1999 though

colditz · 01/08/2006 11:09

what do you want to live in London for when you can get this for the same money?

suejonez · 01/08/2006 12:27

Its a bit of a long commute for me though [doubtful emoticon]

bunyanvillas · 01/08/2006 12:45

Hello everyone!!! And hi Sue, thanks for all your wonderful tips! I actually already live in Isleworth in Mill Plat Ave so know the Red Lion well - and the London Apprentice! Am also an occasional lurker on the West London meet-up thread although have not managed to make any of the dos ... yet! Isleworth is a great place to live - I was just wondering how to stretch my limited budget to a bigger gaff - but I think a loft conversion may be the way forward!

Must have walked past you loads of time. I think for a nice area, the only place cheaper than Isleworth is probably Whitton. Twickenham is also cheap but I don;t like it much myself. Or how about further out like Hersham - that may be cheaper?

suejonez · 01/08/2006 13:12

nest meet up is at my place in Kew so perhaps nosiness will drag you along this time!

bunyanvillas · 01/08/2006 13:15

Gosh, where is Hersham? Never 'eard of it Think I'm away for the next meet-up (as usual!) - although of course I would love to have a nosy at your place

well, am throughly freaked out now - the house linked to by CountessDracula on Monday, 31 July, 2006 11:04:16 PM is one I lived in as a student.
How weird is that?!

Anyway, nice house! Little garden and in a quiet cul-de-sace in a pleasant residential, non-studenty area. Well, it was 9 years ago, anyway.

MrsJohnCusack · 01/08/2006 13:38

lol at suejonez - good thing cece wasn't the horrible woman who bought your house!

am currently looking at this very subject for a friend who rents in Twickenham, they're looking for a 3 bed house for around £250K and want to stay in the area....hmmm

as you see from all the links, it is possible. Whitton (where I live) is def. cheaper. A bit further out in Surrey - Hersham, Walton, around there you'll get more for your money, and they really aren't that far away. Surbiton is nice but getting quite pricey.

am at £260K in Teddington foxinsocks! If I could live in Teddington I would def be thinking twice about the imminent move to NZ - it's lovely.

MrsJohnCusack · 01/08/2006 13:40

oh and Hounslow isn't great but it may be worth looking at the nicer bits towards Whitton and Isleworth.

Hanworth v.cheap but there's no public transport there
also, as already mentioned, Hampton and also Fulwell might be worth a look

suejonez · 01/08/2006 13:47

Hersham is near Walton on Thames, don;t know it but its supposed to be very nice, 20mins into Waterloo and a village green. house prices are reasonable for commuter belt but I don;t entirely understnad why. I could cut my mortgage by £100k and get another bedroom if I moved there. Why am I not moving there?!

suejonez · 01/08/2006 13:48

And note that cece didn;t deny catagorically that she wasn't the horrible woman who bought my lovely old house...

Actually she sounds too sane to be her - she was barking mad.

foxinsocks · 01/08/2006 15:13

here's a 3 bed in Tedd

it's in a good location (right by 2 excellent schools) and round the corner is the bus stop to Kingston (you could walk it easily) and Hampton Wick BR can't be far either.

It's on an estate but there are lots of families who live there.

cece · 01/08/2006 16:12

Suejonez No I did not buy your house in Isleworth!

We have just moved to West Byfleet. It is nice out here and 28 mins on train to Waterloo. I am sure you could find something for that money. Hold I'll check bunyanvillas

cece · 01/08/2006 16:13

How about this and right near to the canal
