because I certainly don't and just had to swallow my tongue and half my teeth to stop myself commenting on sister plonking my 2 year old on it and pointing out all the interesting things .. hob darling, knives darling (big sharp pointy knives held on knife magnet)

arrgghh

no

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2006 21:00

yes but only when I'm there. Have done since she was v small. I move the hot kettle, hot toaster and anything dangerous before I sit her there though.

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2006 21:00

today she sat and watched me make an omelette.

NotAnOtter · 30/07/2006 21:01

yes its so motherly and yummy having one sat there!

Bozza · 30/07/2006 21:02

no but she regularly stands on a chair next to me. And I have become rather lax about leaving sharp knives around.

SpaceCadet · 30/07/2006 21:03

no because she would probably hurl herself straight off it!

JackieNo · 30/07/2006 21:03

DS gets sat on there occasionally so he can work the coffee grinder (just call me a food ponce now). He likes to help make the coffee. DH also lets him sit up there to help with bits of cooking, because he's too short to stand on the stool and reach the worktop.

Olihan · 30/07/2006 21:03

I do, but I don't point out all the dangerous things! If ds (2.5) is getting under my feet when I'm trying to make dinner I sit him next to the sink with a saucepan of his own and the veg peelings and a wooden spoon. He likes to be able to see what I'm doing, it keeps him quiet, I wedge him in with my hip and he can't reach the knife block, hob or anything dangerous.

However, I would maybe suggest asking your sister to take your dc somewhere else to play - I'm guessing she doesn't have kids of her own!!

Twiglett · 30/07/2006 21:05

she has 3 actually .. 13 - 18 year olds

she's sweet

but I find sisters quite irritating at the moment

Oh I see, it was your sister but YOUR child? Well, I can see your issue, frankly.

HuwEdwards · 30/07/2006 21:05

yes, like WWW - she adored (and still does) watching me cooking.

No but DS stands on his step stool and talks to me in the kitchen and can reach everything on the work surfaces.

WideWebWitch · 30/07/2006 21:07

thanks for that info fio

Yeah but twig does she do it every time you go anywhere near the kitchen worktops even if it is just to get a glass out of the cupboard. Run over and drag a chair, into your leg, across your foot in order not to miss out at all? Drives me to distraction....

tortoise · 30/07/2006 21:12

I sit my 2 year old on the work top and have done with all of them at some time.Makes peling the spuds easier than holding her.She likes to see what im doing.

7up · 30/07/2006 21:12

yes,he stands and looks out of the window and i have been known to dash toget the phone about 10foot away and out of site and leave him

BettySpaghetti · 30/07/2006 21:12

No because he has a habit of trying to imitate Sporticus and spends his entire time trying to stand on his head, do flips and breakdance -type moves.

tortoise · 30/07/2006 21:12

Sometimes if I'm holding on. (ds3) He's only interested in the biscuit cupboard in the kitchen. For that reason prefer him out of the kitchen.

Ds1 climbs on top of the fridge freezer. Crouches down peering over the edge like a leopard. Too high for me to reach him without standing on something.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 30/07/2006 21:18

I sit ds on the work top if I want to give him some calpol or something, purely to stop him running around, I'm one of those people who doesn't like lots of things on the worktop - almost everything is in the cupboard!
