because I certainly don't and just had to swallow my tongue and half my teeth to stop myself commenting on sister plonking my 2 year old on it and pointing out all the interesting things .. hob darling, knives darling (big sharp pointy knives held on knife magnet)

Yes, DD loves watching and trying to help with things like stirring.
Everything kept out of the way.
I'm always right next to her.
Being small and at ground level all the time must be boring - much more interesting to see what's going on at our height.

My DS decided to learn to get out of the bumbo himself while it was on the kitchen worksurface. Now that was an embarrassing trip to casualty...

Ha, Ha. When we first moved to Manchester we had to move in with my Mum for a few months - ds1 had just turned 2 and I used to plonk him on the kitchen work top all the time. Mum used to disapprove and I'd say don't be ridiculous, he has brilliant balance, and he's so sensible... Until the day he fell off and whalloped his head on the floor! Ahem. Ds1 was fine but Mum nearly phoned social services - we were such bad Mummies...

Has it stopped us doing the same with ds2, now 2? No, of course not - we live in our own house now so she'd never know..!

All 3 of mine have sat on the counter top watching me prepare food etc at some point in their lives. dd is 19mo and regularly joins me, learning her veggies and fruit, helping stir stuff or just tasting bits as we go. She's not keen on raw onions, but loves a bit of potato skin. Flour is fun to clap between your hands and make a big mess. She's fallen in the sink once leaning over too far, but the rule is "sitting only on the counter" if she moves or wriggles too much she has to get down. She knows the oven is hot and that knives are not for her.

No I don't sit him there. He gets a stool and climbs up there himself.
