desperate, sorry, ideas for 7 yr old boy birthday

Sorry, but I'm desperate. I have also known what to get ds, but this time I'm stumped and days are running out for me to get him a birthday pressie.

Thanks to over-indulgent grandparents, great grandparents and aunty he has already a lot - bike, scooter, skate board, roller blades, game boy, watch, walkie talkies, too much lego etc etc

He is active, forever playing outside. Nanny has got him a 'discovery set' with binoculors, magnifying glass, bug collecting tub etc. He's into playing outside, quite active, doesn't generally play with toys.

He wants a knife. He wants a pet. He will not be getting either.

Hoenstly at a loss. Any ideas?

I could get rellies to get it no prob I suppose, as it seems dead easy to get in uk, but prob is wouldn't have time to get it for his birthday. suppose I'^ll have to suggest it for him for Christmas off them (another prob is dh hates it if I buy something in uk, I think he takes it as a slur on our home, lol) . means I'm still stuck for birthday present. will maybe have to fall back on dreaded bionical which I've told him before he will never have any more of , as has too many already, each in 1, 000, 000 pieces all over house. there must be some way of dealing with the dratted things.

Are you sure the snowboard thing is in argos? Can't see it? How oldf is your ds? Age guide is 8, but thought he's manage alright at 7?

Ds is 7.I know it was in Argos but he did get it a few years ago[he was too young for it then]They do need to have some leg strength and it can be quite strenuous.I am going to have a trawl round.I hope your dh dosen't mind too much.I have ordered things from other countries it isn't really a slur is it

doobydoo · 31/07/2006 14:59

We have Geomag!I particularly enjoy skidding on the ball barings and trying to stop the dogs from swallowing them

monkey · 31/07/2006 15:06

oh yes, geomag. we have tiles and there is nothing like the sound of 20 of those balls bouncing, not in unison all over the floor when they drop their latest creation. We had a fun 3 day wait recently for one of them to pass therough ds1. I gave that job to dh. ha ha ha.

..Now i have had a trawl but can't see the ones ds has.He has 2 but one is not as good as the other. The one he likes is SSX Snowboarding..this can be used on it's own[plugged into telly]or he can use it with his SSX playstation games[very clever!].The one that i have found does seem similar it is on a website..www.surprise.com then type in Virtual Snowboards and there is a plug in one that looks
Good.
Argos also have something called Connectivity Skateboarding[081/3637.This is 40 quid. The other one is in dollars and they do deliver to Europe and other places[well pretty much everywhere].I will have another trawl when ds is in bed!
I am finding 7 a tricky age as well.He will be 7 in a month.I think he would like a nintendo ds or a bike!
I know have to go and feed everyone! LOL

TooTicky · 31/07/2006 16:49

How about a super duper memorable day out instead of a tangible thing?

monkey · 01/08/2006 03:48

tooticky, that's also a great idea and I've told his gran to do that - after all the world cup fever I've suggested she take him to his first ever real live football match. We can't really do it as we're on holiday for the next 2 weeks, then the day after we get back it'll be his party, then the next sad he starts school, and the next day it's his birthday. phew.

how about;
stilts, especially the bigfoot kind
swingball
spy equipment ie invisible ink, walkie talkies, 'bugging' devices etc

doobydoo · 01/08/2006 14:34

Stilts!Where can you get them and what are the Bigfoot kind?

hovely · 01/08/2006 15:06

these are the bigfoots I got for my nephew - he loves them:
letterbox
They have other things as well like pogo sticks

doobydoo · 01/08/2006 16:17

can't access the link Hovely but will look later when ds in bed and not rampaging!

hewlettsdaughter · 01/08/2006 16:23

ds' 7th is coming up and we have got him: a shirt, a Beano comic maker kit (got that idea off mumsnet), a sketchbook and watercolour pencils, some books...

I quite like the idea of the snowboarding game

doobydoo · 01/08/2006 16:30

I like the idea of the Beano making comic kit.Where do you get that from?
Some things on here i shall probably bear in mind for Christmas as well{smile]
What books did you get?
It can be tricky finding books too.
He liked Clarice Beans..Utterly Me and Spells trouble and the Roddy Doyle giggler treatment ones.He has read all horrid henry and likes Captain Underpants.I find it difficult choosing books. He is not really into Alex Ryder etc.

hewlettsdaughter · 01/08/2006 16:42

The Beano comic maker kit was from Amazon (it's still in stock, I've just checked). Books-wise, we have got a seaside spotter's guide - because it's his birthday while we're on holiday - and How to train your dragon by Cressida Cowell (come to think of it, that was a tip from mumsnet too).

How about this book ?

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 01/08/2006 16:58

When ds is 7 in December he's getting a DVD combi p[ortable machine thingy from tescos (£80 but he doesn't have a TV and we want to control what he watches).

Have you seen the cowboy teepees Millets ahs in? theya re fab for this age ggroup,a nd they do a cheaper ridge tent. hang on for a link

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 01/08/2006 17:01

here but the sites plays up for me- always does- if not visible go on to Millets website and look at the cath Kidston range (it's on sale too)

doobydoo · 01/08/2006 18:05

hewlettsdaughter..ds not so keen on the spy stuff. He likes quite quirky ones like Roddy Doyle and Dahl..but i might buy it just in case.

doobydoo, my ds likes those roddy doyle ones too. he hasn't read the grk one but we have borrowed it from the library.

hewlettsdaughter · 01/08/2006 20:44

SFPC - those teepees are nice but more expensive than I was expecting!

hewlettsdaughter · 01/08/2006 21:11

Think I read "Milletts and not "Cath Kidston"

hovely · 01/08/2006 21:20

doobydoo, if you are still having trouble with the link there is a Letterbox link on the MN home page (and presumably a discount or some benefit to MN?)

hovely · 01/08/2006 21:22

oh no there isn't, sorry, I got it mixed up with GLTC.
letterbox is at www.letterbox.co.uk

Serendippity · 01/08/2006 21:27

I don't think he is too young for this, if he likes adventerous things how about a place called Go Ape? (think website is just www.goape.co.uk) they have various centres scattered around the globe, if you do go for a day out. It is basicaly a lot of high wire excersizes all in trees around forests. Zip wires, balancing things like that, it is fab, i loved it and i'm not even that adventerous! Sorry i can't do links and apologies if he is too young!
Hope you fine something for him

hewlettsdaughter · 01/08/2006 22:39

what about a stomp rocket ?
