agree it is a total scam

ok threads too long to read but our first house was leccy only, small mid terrace, we benefitted from both sides having central heating!

Storage heaters - which we never worked out how to use so just set them on constant when it was cold, bills were on average about 30 a month but then we cooked electric and heated water electrically too.

Halogen heaters for winter Rhubarb, cheap to buy (about £15-20) and cheap to run. Portable and instant heat in the room you need it.

Ring/text me next week if you are at work. Will persuade DH to have a day trip to Kendal and I'll take you to lunch, think up some curses and apologise for the ALBERT slip up .

hi custy, we don't have mains gas we have econmy seven storage heaters. winters are fine as storage heaters are kind of all or nothing so in winter it is lovely and warm - problems are early spring and autumn, there too hot to put on and its a bit nippy in the evenings without them.

Thanks people, we are getting legal advice, but it wasn't a scam, the guy was real. They were not going to let us have the house, they wanted us to fuck off out of the office as ds was happily flooding it with the water dispenser. We did actually leave the office with no house, but a guy from sales said he'd try and contact his friend who had property to let in the area. I saw the guys cheque and his details incl mobile phone number, he was real. The agents were just complete and utter arseholes.

Job started on Mon, going well but on dd's first day of her new school I have to be in London for a conference. Very stressful here atm. We move in on Fri. Loads of shit happening and am fucking feeling it! Might have to change my name soon too, shit happening.

Wish I could emigrate!

ah rhurbarb what a nightmare. I have to say that I agree it sounds really dodgy and just a way for them to up the rent. Bankers draft could easily be a fake. Anyway at least you are sorted. Stuff will get easier from here on in.

Blu · 26/07/2006 18:10

yes, they were utter arseholes AND acted improperly because a verbal agreement does have some weight - if he had said he would wait for you to arrive with the money that day.

Glad you are sorted, anyway - well done, and that the school is just right.

Look into the cheapest form of electric heating, thugh - I bet it will add up to something of a shock when you get your first winter bill. My M&D live in a 'no mains gas' area, but have oil-fired central heating. It doesn't sound as if this is installed in your castle.
