How long was it on the market before it was undef offer? Our estate agent reckoned it would be in under a fortnight. ^ weeks later no joy. Please cheer me up and tell me that isn't unusual.

we've had 3 or 4 offers, been on market for 3 or so weeks, plenty of viewings.

beef · 18/07/2006 14:18

ours sold in about 6 weeks but we had offers after 2.

NomDePlume · 18/07/2006 14:21

It depends on the market in your area. Not just the general market, but the market in houses of you particular size/age/style.

My house took 6 months to sell, then the sale fell through. Took another month with a different agent to sell it to the couple who actually bought it (7 week completion). We knew the house would take a while to shift as we put it on in late Sept which is when the housing market slows down to a near stop (in my area, anyway). We knew realistically that it would be close to spring before we saw any real action.

NomDePlume · 18/07/2006 14:22

houses of your particular...

sylvm · 18/07/2006 14:22

Don't worry - I should think your estate agent was being highly optimistic. Don't know where you are in the country but in the south east in particular the housing market has slowed considerably in the last couple of years. We are in the northern home counties. We put our old house on the market in early April 2005 and we got an offer on it in early December. This is not unusual in our area.

Also depends what you are trying to sell ie. there are more people interested in smaller houses and a smaller market the bigger the houses get further up the chain.

This time of year is fairly quiet too - people are thinking more of holidays, not new houses. September is the 2nd busiest time in the housing market, we were told.

I can sympathise. I well remember selling our 1st house in 2 weeks in the 1980's, the 2nd house took 2 months, so we seem to be increasing dramatically every time we move. Good luck.

ours has been up for 5 weeks, had 4 viewings and no offers.

But there are 7 others houses near me battling for buyers, the bastards.

OP posts:
oliveoil · 18/07/2006 14:34

does that mean my yard is a 'pleasant outdoor space'?

NomDePlume · 18/07/2006 14:36

No, it means it is a "Mediterranean-style courtyard perfect for alfresco-dining"

oliveoil · 18/07/2006 14:36

windows open
everywhere clean clean clean (pita with 2 sprogs let me tell you)
