I just had to tell anyone interested as you were all unbelievable fantastic when I appealed for help over dd's lost toy...
Anyway, dd got worse, or stayed the same, drew strawberry at school, and told her teacher that one day, she'd pick something up she hadn't used for a long time, and he'd be there. (This was something I once told her and she kept repeating and held on to the hope.) Sometimes, she'd cry a little (not a wail, more a sob) in the mornings, and so it went on... We finally decided to perform radical surgery on Emma's strawberry which was too big, and we got all past pics of him, measured, compared, snipped and tacked.. His hands were too big and his feet, but maybe....
He was going to be sewn back together THIS WEEK - then guess what?? Our washing machine broke. Today it was removed and behind the pipes, in a dark, wet corner WAS THE BOY!!
We are drying him off, then will let her 'pick something up and he'll be there' as this is how she thinks it will be..
I'll get a photo soon! Still rather tearful.
Thanks so much mumsnet for all your TLC!

Twink · 25/02/2004 22:19

What, me emotional ? As tears roll down my cheeks ! Fab, I'm sooo pleased for her, and I'm not even pregnant, just happy !

debster · 26/02/2004 09:33

That's so brilliant Skie. I keep imagining your daughter standing there looking at it intently (not that I know what your dd looks like) and my eyes well up.

This whole story has just been the best on Mumsnet ever. Maybe you should write your own childrens' story all about it and your dd could help by drawing pictures. I reckon it would be a winner!

misdee · 26/02/2004 09:40

this is the best news ever. i told my dh about strawberry and he just didnt get it, but then i explained about how dd1 would react if blankie went missing, or he didnt have his panda and i swear i saw a small tear, or maybe it was my imagination.

Jaybee · 26/02/2004 09:48

Great news - does this mean I no longer have to look through the soft toy basket in charity shops - I always looked - just in case a strawberry was at the bottom.

oliveoil · 26/02/2004 09:52

How lovely, bet the washing machine man fixer wondered what all the fuss was about when you removed a squidgy mess from the corner and got all excited!

skie · 26/02/2004 10:04

Actually the washing machine man had gone - and we discovered that the new one he'd installed was too big - we can't open the cupboards next to it! DH had taken it out again and was moving everything around when he saw something wedged behind a pipe!
We are still stuck with a brand new £500 washer dryer that doesn't fit in our kitchen - and we've had to empty an entire cupboard so I can access pots, pans and potatoes until we sort this mess out!
On any other day, this would count as major domestic and financial crisis!
But we're so happy about finding strawberry, we don't care!

Fantastic, fantastic, skie! I'm so thrilled for your dd - I hope she can remember that moment of pure joy for always. Hurray for Strawberry!

wilbur · 26/02/2004 12:01

Hey, I just realised that you wish from teh wish thread came true. Mumsnet magic.

mears · 26/02/2004 12:10

How lovely Skie - have got a tear in both eyes

Now I am feeling sorry for the bigger strawberry - he needs someone to love him. Could you tell her the whole story now and see what she would like to do with him?

Blackduck · 26/02/2004 12:38

Can only echo everyone else - great ending - really made my day!

skie · 26/02/2004 12:45

mears, I think we are going to put the two strawberrys side by side (he is at my mums, currently tacked up and waiting to be stitched - but don't worry, he's still smiling!). We will work out just how similar we can get them, because if GOD FORBID anything happens again - he's not allowed to leave the house but he still went missing for five months so anything's possible and there are the holidays too - then we'll have a possible stand by!
After the last mumsnet thread, I tried so many other routes, contacted shops, and press officers of manufacturing companies and never managed to find another one...
There's an article coming out about it in Real in May but very out of date! I wrote it before even the mumsnet appeal, when I was trying to convince myself dd would get over it... Unfortunately, she didn't. And thanks god - she didn't have to!
