(guess who got told off oops)

MrsGerrard · 11/07/2006 22:40

personally I don't think it's appropriate but note sure why. Just doesn't sit well with me.

SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 22:41

Really they told you off?

How did you word it?

I would have thought that an appeal for sign up to organ donation was appropriate almost anywhere?

misdee · 11/07/2006 22:41

but surely its the best of recycling

OP posts:
fattiemumma · 11/07/2006 22:42

hmm. i think in your position i would try anything but in general i wouldnt have thoughtit the best place.

Organ donation is a vey personal choice (i have found this out recently as i am registered but my mum is against it)

i dont think that the ethos of freecycle.....dont dump it, freecycle it. is to far removed from the idea of organ donation but i guess human organs and old washing machines are a little different.

SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 22:42

fair point misdee!

Hattie05 · 11/07/2006 22:43

If it is an appeal like the ones you have done here i think fine.

If its a bit more personal or demanding then could understand why they may have told you off!

misdee · 11/07/2006 22:44

'i can't see how to contact the group leader about this, but i am a
regular user of freecycle and am not just spamming the board.

My husband Peter is waiting for a heart transplant, and has been in
harefield hospital for over a year, and has an artificial heart
right now (an LVAD, left ventricular assist device) you may have
read abut him in last thursday Sun, he was in the health section.
Anyway, this week is national transplant week, and I am trying to
reach as many people as possible, and thought freecycle has a lot of
members and i can reach a lot this way.

If you have always considered donating your organs after your death
then please do make sure you register and let your next of kin know
your wishes. Please give the gift of life, so people like my husband
can come home to his family, and my little girls can have their
daddy back again to play and have fun.'

ok, maybe a bit personal

OP posts:
misdee · 11/07/2006 22:45

some people ion the heart board had mentioned they had posted ion their freecycle boards with no bother and lots of support. so thought i would as well, posted the message on the 2 groups i use, but got told off on one.

OP posts:
misdee · 11/07/2006 22:48

i have had a fair few good responses tho and the messages havent been deleted either.

OP posts:
Hattie05 · 11/07/2006 22:49

Nah misdee, that sounds appropriate to me.

By personal i was thinking more along the lines of "please if you know of anyone dying quickly sign them up for organ donation."

Yours is far more sensitive than that! .

Buuut i think its a case of people have to know you and know you're real to be of understanding. If you are not widely known then some may feel ... i don't know how to say what i mean here but ... kind of offended in a weird kinda way. Does that make sense?

mykidsmum · 11/07/2006 22:50

Misdee i don't see any problem with this at all. my cousin 15 years ago was the youngest baby to ever receieve a donated liver, as a result my family are all for promoting donation awareness. He now against all odds, lives a very normal life and although he will need a liver again at some point he was given the gift of life and all our lives have been enriched by it xx

misdee · 11/07/2006 22:51

totally understand you hattie. i do use freecycle a lot, and have met a fair few members, anyone collecting will have seen my window stickers or the jkdis t-shirts or just the harefield sticker on the car if MIL car is here.

OP posts:
SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 22:51

who complained - a user or organiser?

It seems fairly ok to me, I have seen appeals of this sort before and not been offended by tem so it is not just that I "know" you and your situation

misdee · 11/07/2006 22:54

the moderator.

OP posts:
SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 22:55

hmm, I would have said they were being over the top tbh.

I give you a big fat YAY to freecycling!

misty · 11/07/2006 22:57

Why on earth would anyone be offended by that misdee? If people don't want to read it they can just ignore it surely, and if it means that even only 1 person registers, surely people can't be offended by that?
I've never posted on your threads misdee but just wanted to say really admire you & Peter's courage and wish you all the best.
xx

2shoes · 11/07/2006 22:57

misdee can I hijack and ask you
if someone is on epilepsy medication can you still donate?

misty · 11/07/2006 22:58

your's & Peter's......

misdee · 11/07/2006 22:58

i dont know about organs 2shoes, but corneas and tissue/bone/skin etc could possibly be used.

OP posts:
Hattie05 · 11/07/2006 23:00

I don't mean that misdee would offend anyone personally, but if she were not known here on mn and posted that, i think a fair few people would be jumping up and down about it iywim. Territory stuff and trolls etc.

SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 23:03

Really Hattie?

You think if someone turned up here and said their husband needed a heart transplant and please could you think about organ donation - that anyone here would be awful enough to call them a troll

misdee · 11/07/2006 23:04

securmummy, well it is full moon isnt it?

OP posts:
2shoes · 11/07/2006 23:05

thanks as i thought

SecurMummy · 11/07/2006 23:05
Grin
misdee · 11/07/2006 23:06

2shoes, it always worth signing up, as there are medical advances each day, and corneas etc are in great need as well.
