to national trust places

when it is obviously a charity

or is it payback for the disgustingly foul and overpriced food they sell at such places?

I am amazed how English people can be so trustworthy.
As this thread shows a lot of you thinkt hat using someboddyelse card is not fair, that it is equivalent to stealing.
I am French, and I can promise you that, in France, any card like this would HAVE a photo of the holder on it to avoid that sort of situation.
So my commment is WELL DONE TO EVEN THINK OF ASKING THE QUESTION!!!

SKYTVADICT · 23/06/2006 16:05

Tattershall is virtually empty and I think they do Belvoir in Yr 2! I don't know what Belvoir offers though.

I also can't believe I said I couldn't think of any!

JanH · 23/06/2006 16:14

There's also Rockingham Castle - how far is that from you?

JanH · 23/06/2006 16:17

Grimsthorpe

SKYTVADICT · 23/06/2006 16:17

That looks ok and its def nearer. Think I will be speak to the teacher on Monday!

Piffle · 23/06/2006 16:19

I'm in Lincs and we love Belton House, mostly due to its fabulous playground, we joined just for that

zippitippitoes · 23/06/2006 16:22

this looks a fun castle too Castle Rising near Kings Lynn

zippitippitoes · 23/06/2006 16:24

lol

teachers not allowed to book visits without consulting mn first!

JanH · 23/06/2006 16:24

Tell the ones with sicky kids to get Traveleeze , they work on DS1 who is a bad traveller and you can take one the night before and it works for 24 hours so they'll have forgotten about it by 8am and not be thinking about it on the coach

Clary · 23/06/2006 22:40

yeah STA, I'm from Lincs and we used to go to Castle Rising as a school trip. Second votes for Grimsthorpe, Belvoir, Belton House or even Burghley House - not really a castle but still interesting and not such a ludicrous way away.
Or if you want some history, how about the world's most beautiful building, which can't be that far away from you?

(I'm talking about Lincoln Cathedral, of course )

JanH · 23/06/2006 22:53

Was just looking at the Belvoir website and if you go to Castle & Grounds, and then to Hidden England (ie Leics/Lincs), you get links to Belton, Burghley, Grimsthorpe and Rockingham. Doesn't that all fit nicely!

zippitippitoes · 27/06/2006 10:01

to those who queried about the car sticker for parking in the National Trust it is like the normal car sticker was ie a green acorn logo but now has valid from dates on it as it is also now a car park entry sticker and it came with the new year card and membership pack.

lorina · 27/06/2006 10:30

I wouldnt use someone elses card because I would feel so guilty.

But I really dont mind anyone else doing it if they genuinely cant afford the admission. Its important for kids to have some days out like that. Maybe later on in life when you have a bit of spare money you can make a little donation to even things out.

Btw Warwick castle is a fab day out but the parking is horrendous so get there early!
