DD and I are always looking for things to do on a weekend and are often running out of things to do in our local area or people (with children) to do things with!

If their are any other parents here who find themselves in a similar situation - speak up!

I'd like to start exchanging emails/chatting with people in similar situations and maybe arrange weekend outings in each others local area/meet ups etc.

Hi, SB, going anywhere nice? Sorry haven't been in touch - been a bit down. If you fancy a glass of wine at my house after Godstone Farm on Saturday, do come. Anyone else welcome too, but am sure most people will have to dash.

Mammya, Salt. Next Sunday would be good - 15th? I'm going to Godstone Farm on Saturday, but it's only five minutes drive from my house. Quite happyto drive next Sunday - any suggestions?

salt · 03/02/2004 11:30

What about the Art Trolley on the 15th then. DD is too young as the age is 3-12 but providing they let her in we should do fine painting and sticking (well I will anyway) and we can help your kids.

Tate is handy as can get train then 1 tube so no driving.

Not sure my finances can stretch to 2 outings in one weekend! How much does a train ticket from London Bridge to New Eltham cost? Am very broke at the mo, and Godstone Farm costs £4.80 already to get in, if it gets to more than £10 then won't be able to make it I'm afraid.

salt · 03/02/2004 11:31

mammya, if Euston station is easy for you to get to we could alway meet there then split a cab?

salt · 03/02/2004 11:32

Sorry posts crossed (I was talking abpout art trolley)

OP posts:
sykes · 03/02/2004 11:34

I'm getting confused, sorry. What's the art trolley? Godstone Farm is this weekend - next weekend art trolley?

salt · 03/02/2004 11:38

Thought Mammya suggested arranging something for next weekend, I could only make the Sunday (15th).

Art Trolley is all the time anyway by the looks of it so we can arrange for anytime really

Oh, I see. I'll be at Godstone Farm this Saturday. But am nearly sure I'd like to do something next Sunday - don't mind where, well, within reason, as can drive.

kaz33 · 03/02/2004 11:47

Oops - have missed out on quite a lot.

So to summarise - Twinkie coffee morning on Saturday this weekend. Can't do as taking boys to see friend in guildford and probably not this sunday.

Can't do 14/15th as mums 60th birthday weekend - taking her to the Sanctuary in Covent Garden for whole day. Can't wait.

Weekend of 21/22 - much more free. Am available on 21st if anyone has any ideas. 22nd very pregnant friend coming to see us.

S Kensington/ Earls Court where I live is great for things for the kids. Biggest problem is parking but if you come on a sunday then residents parking mostly doesn't apply, though always check the signs as it does differ. THe science musuem is FAB, even for kids as young as 2 - with so much to do, great facilities etc....
The natural history musuem is not so good, lots to see like the dinasours but not really any interactive stuff for the kids to do.
There are also 2 parks - Holland Park, Hyde Park with great facilities for kids. Hyde Park has the Princess Diana memorial playground which is great.
A trip here doesn't have to be expensive, the musuems are free and you can take sandwiches to both of them, no requirement to buy their food with eating areas provided.

I have a smallish two bed flat, without a garden, so not really suitable for a largish amount of kids for lunch but certainly could meet up their.

been before it is great - but can't make it as busy.

mammya · 03/02/2004 11:59

Oh sorry got mixed up too, so art trolley NEXT weekend then and Godstone Farm this weekend if I've got it right. Still have to work out how much it will cost to get to Godstone Farm and see if I can afford it.

Am definitely up for art trolley next weekend though, it's very easy for me to get to, just a short bus ride and then hop on the tube and it's direct.

mammya · 03/02/2004 12:01

Salt from Euston, just take the tube, it's direct on the Victoria line, or is it too complicated for you with your kiddies? Could always meet up at Euston and take tube together.

salt · 03/02/2004 12:04

Will try and summerise a bit - the following events maybe happening over the next few weeks:

7th Feb - Godstone farm
15th Feb - Art Trolley @ The Tate
20th March - coffee morning @ Twinkies

Remember we don't all have to attend everything, just whoever is free and fancies it.

Should we take specifics offboard? otherwise I can see this getting quite complicated.

Mammya - was plannning on being brave and taking the tube. Will borrow my mums umbrella buggy so shouldn't be too bad - I don't think.

I'm free on weekends (see enough of DH during the week thank you!).

Kaz33I didn't know you lived round this way, I'm Notting Hill/Holland Park way. Would love to have a meet in Holland Park when the weather is better.

Coffee Morning at Twinkies?? Hmm...

salt · 03/02/2004 13:06

Oooh would love to do 'the parks' etc once the weather is better.

By the way anyone in/near Wiltshire yet? don't want to forget LittleRach!! Thought about moving east LittleRach??

mammya · 03/02/2004 13:18

Have found out that the fare to New Eltham is only £3.20 (cheap day return) so will be able to make it to Godstone Farm if your offer of a lift is still standing, Twinkie. Would arrive at New Eltham station at 11.42 or earlier, would that do?

kaz33 · 03/02/2004 13:58

Pie, would love to do so - even though i have been on maternity leave twice in Earls Court have failed to make any friends with children in the area. Bit pathetic really, but not very good at striking up instant friendships. Now the boys are older a lot easier but now I'm at work full time.

Pie, have you been to Blue Kangaroo on the New Kings Road ?? Another great venue for a rainy day.

tigermoth · 03/02/2004 22:25

I don't live a million miles away from you, Twinkie, and would really love to come to your coffee morning.

I'm busy on most of the other dates mentioned on this thread, but will keep my eyes on what you all plan, in case I am free.

Twinkie · 04/02/2004 16:49

Mammya - that would be perfect I finish Ballet at 11.45 - so if you wait at the station I will pick you up from there - it is literally right next to where DD has her class.

My coffee morning/afternoon is the 20th March and you are all welcome. XXX

Also often a football widow on a saturday but I think my dd, at 7, may be a bit old. Although she could probably do quite a good job in looking after the little ones while the mums sup coffee and natter!! Salt - whereabouts are you - sounds as though you are not far from me.
