Coddy · 03/02/2004 11:19

oh and we never go out ont he day - far too naff

I find the whole thing increasingly cringey as I get older....

Thomcat · 03/02/2004 11:22

Yeah - D and I went out ONCE to our favourite Thai restaurant and it was awful, they had taken out all the larger tables and packed in loads of tables for 2 and we could only order off the 'special Valentines set menu' so couldn't even order the food we wanted - rubbish!
Actually last year we were in bath on a weekend away and the hotel did the same thing - made us try and order off a set menu with 3 rubbish choices rather than the full menu - not good.

bunny2 · 03/02/2004 11:28

Thomcat, I tried a mohican once, it was a disaster and the grow-back unbearable. I have also tried a clean-shaven look, not very nice with a saggy tummy and stretchmarks From now on I'll leave well alone.

I cant stand going out to eat on Feb 14th, all that pinkness everywhere is too much for me. We shall have a takeaway, good video, decent wine and homemade chocolate truffles.

handlemecarefully · 03/02/2004 11:32

Yes, best overall to stick to a nice short trim I think!

aloha · 03/02/2004 11:32

Yes, we did think we might be taken for a wife-swapping party of four....

Thomcat, at first I read your post as being in 'the bath' ordering dinner and thought, ooh, how decadent, if soggy. As for a brazilian, well that would set off my c-section scar a treat!

Coddy · 03/02/2004 11:32

I find a trim is uncomfy too though - ? catches onpants? is that just me?

Thomcat · 03/02/2004 11:53

Catches on pants Coddy! Ha haaa, well you will wear polyester undies!

motherinferior · 03/02/2004 11:56

I am going away for Valentine's w/end without DP. This is a complete coincidence, honestly

I shall leave him a card...

Mermaid2 · 03/02/2004 12:29

Normally get a card and we are going out for a meal on Valentines Day (which we do every year) handy that its on a Saturday for babysitting etc.

lilibet · 03/02/2004 12:33

We are going to the theatre in the afternoon to see Shakespeasre's R&J, then a something to eat afer that, it will be early tho', hopefully before all the fluffy pinkness starts, then home for nice wine and wonderful sex

Coddy · 03/02/2004 12:35

Hulababy · 03/02/2004 20:16

We just do cards on Valentines. My birthday os only 2 days before so I prefer Dh to spend all our spare cash then

wilbur · 04/02/2004 10:09

We've been invited to a wedding in Scotland this Valentines Day, so I will be reeling the night away this year, which I'm looking forward to. My lovely cousins are looking after ds and dd for the night, too. I agree that restaurants can be a rip off for the night itself, but I like the posh hotel idea. Maybe next year. BTW, the most successful present dh ever got me for Valentine's was a pair of furry handcuffs - just as a joke but then we thought we'd try them out....

WideWebWitch · 04/02/2004 10:20

Sobernow. Gah, the excuses they come up with hey? I agree, being out on valentines day is generally awful (but Aloha, you've got the right idea, going out for dinner with friends). Loads of couples, mostly not talking it seems to me. I don't know what to get dp so will be hoping someone comes up with something great on this thead. Thomcat at your heart attempt!

stringbean · 04/02/2004 10:38

I generally get dh a card, and get a lovely bunch of sodall in return....

Janstar · 04/02/2004 10:52

On our first Valentine's day, we had only known each other 5 weeks, dh sent me a card, and a dozen red roses were delivered. He turned up in the evening with a forever friends bear labelled 'to give you all the love when dh isn't here' and another card. He then took me out for drinks and dinner. When we got bak to my house he slipped a cd into the stereo - 'Perfect Day' and asked me to dance.....

This year he said we should book a table for Friday the 13th as everywhere will be chocka on Saturday and we won't get the service

Bozza · 04/02/2004 11:02

I'm going for a girl's night out to an Italian on Friday 13th and am 6 months pregnant so that will be my lot for the weekend. But have arranged for DS to stay at my Mum's as DH will not be home from work in time so at least we get a lie in.

charlieplus3 · 04/02/2004 14:02

i always get spoilt on v day. Flowers, cards and teddies. When first met and worked toghether i would get cards all day long hidden in different places. Also been taken to Venice and Rome. He is very romantic on v day. Cards are always soppy.

Me! I usually do him a card with love Charlie in it and a chocolate heart cookie. I just cant get enthused about it like he does.

Theres no hope for me, but i love christmas

layla · 05/02/2004 13:33

I'm really peeved off,dh told me last night that valentines day is just a con and for me not to expect anything!
I told him I'd like a box of choccs so then he reminded me of my diet.
We always used to do something for valentines,it wasn't always this grim.
S'not fair I want some tiffany jewellery too.

Utka · 05/02/2004 13:33

Dd was born on 15th Feb 3 years ago, and I went into labour during our special valentine's meal at home, so it's become a much more special day than it ever was before we had her (we're the kind of people who get a bit pissed off at the commercialism of these kinds of days).

No. 2 is due next week, so I thought I'd get him something a bit more raunchy than normal - to remind him (and me!) that life (and sex!)will continue, albeit not next week! Dh has always been great at buying me lovely lingerie, and I figured it was his turn this time.

So, I've ordered a selection of 'items' from one of the newish women-friendly erotic shops - in this case "Shh!" - things like chocolate body paint and some 'toys' to try out. They've all arrived in lovely bright pink paper, and I'm hoping we'll have fun opening them, even if we have to wait awhile to use them. Unless of course I go overdue, when they might come in handy!

Hevs · 05/02/2004 13:34

Try paramountzone.com for a website full of silly boys toys and gadgets that most blokes love. I used them at Christmas and they deliver really quickly.

motherinferior · 05/02/2004 13:36

I am still rivetted by the mental image of Thomcat with the pastry cutter. Did you have to shave one-handed? Or did you tape it down or something?

Not to speak of Aloha and friends being taken for Swingers of South East London. You'll have to wear beige polyester and a rictus grin.
