Do you have your groceries delivered? If not, why not?

I've done this a few times in the past, but I've just started getting them delivered regularly once a week and I love it.

If the service is available in your area, do you do it? If not, why?

Try to avoid supermarkets as a general rule. Get organic fruit and veg and groceries delivered by Farmaround. Very handy and lovely stuff

azroc · 22/05/2006 14:24

We get our fruit & veg from Riverford Organic - fab, fresh, convenient and doesn't support the horrible supermarkets.

bluejelly · 22/05/2006 14:25

hey azroc we posted virtually identical posts at exactly the same time! Must be leading parallel lives...

suzywong · 22/05/2006 14:25

not available for hundrends and hundreds and hundreds of miles round here Sad

Online shop if I have codes for cash off or extra clubcard points (saving up for days out).

Go to shop if I have a pile of money off or luncheon vouchers (get paid in them for doing surveys)

suzy, perhaps they could start a 'Flying Doctor' style delivery service in WA? Delivered by the Koala Brothers.

nailpolish · 22/05/2006 14:28

oh i love the koala brothers

ive always wondered though why the wear woolly jumpers, seeing its the 'outback' and all

maybe you could shed some light on this for me suzy

suzywong · 22/05/2006 14:28

Har blinking har

well I tell a Lie, there is a service but not from a supermarket and you have to spend $70 on chilled goods or you have to pay a $35 delivery fee and it's not as competitive as Coles. So we haven't used it. God I miss Ocado

Gingerbear · 22/05/2006 14:30

Outback very cold at night - it is a desert you know.

nailpolish · 22/05/2006 14:31

good point there GB, ta

Gingerbear · 22/05/2006 14:31

Think there may be a gap in the market there Suzy.

Gingerbear · 22/05/2006 14:33

did I dream it, or is there an excellent market in Perth? I recall mountains of fresh fruit and veg.

schneebly · 22/05/2006 14:35

No because I live in the dark ages (well, in rural Scotland)where there is no such thing as having it delivered!

Fimbo · 22/05/2006 14:39

No and after seeing the man that picks and packs the shopping in Tesco on Saturday plucking out the scabbiest looking grapes for some poor soul, I don't think I will bother either!! Grin

I have a delivery every Tuesday (free on Tuesdays over £70 which helps too. I don't have time to go in the week unless I go after school with 3 kids...not my idea of fun. And I don't want to waste my weekend food shopping. The delivery is all the everyday stuff that we used every week - also the heavy things like tins and bags of spuds. I also do a short 'real' shop on Friday afternoon with the kids to get things for the weekend and then I raid the short-dated stock for bargains.

I love our farmers market but as it's on Friday mornings I ca't get there very often. But I do use a lovely local butchers and a farm shop for veg when I get round to it.

jac34 · 22/05/2006 14:44

I don't because Aldi don't deliverGrin
We're too mean to pay the ripoff prices charged in the other supermarkets.
Anyway,I have my own delivery man,(DH)he actually enjoys doing food shopping, and as he does most of the cooking he knows what to buy.
He's very sexy and I get to keep him afterwardsWink

Tinker · 22/05/2006 14:45

Have done but won't rush to do so in the future for all the negative reasons already posted.

cod · 22/05/2006 14:46

newkid · 22/05/2006 14:51

Ocado is brill; I try not to go to Tescos as I can't stand the fact that something like 7p out of every pound spent in this country is spent in one shop. With Ocado, I almost never have any substitutions and if you are unhappy with something (eggs broken, near use by date stuff) they will refund you with no questions asked over the internet within one day of the delivery. However, the driver usually checks things like this and refunds you on the spot! Use by dates aren't usually too bad. If you spend over £75, you don't need to pay the £5 delivery charge. I was a confirmed 'love to walk around the supermarket' person but now love the convenience of having it all delivered to my door.

serenity · 22/05/2006 14:55

Delivery once a month for bulky/cupboard/freezer food, and do the fresh stuff as and when we need it, so I get to wander round the shops then. We do a monthly shop because we find it easier to budget that way, and the last time we did it ourselves, we ended up with three annoyingly tetchy kids, two overflowing trolleys and two very p'ed off grown ups. I'll stick to the delivery I think!

Tortington · 22/05/2006 14:58

we get it frozen in a bag :)

alligator · 22/05/2006 14:58

We dont cos we tend to go at about 7.30 in the evening and get all the bargains. Cant beat getting organic spuds/asparagus etc for 20p a packet and sod the sell by date, they still last AGES!!!

yackertyyack · 22/05/2006 15:14

Ohh no .....did a trial once for waitrose/tesco and sainsburys and found often got substitutes not related to what I wanted, manky fruit/veg, 2 for 1's missing, and even had to go and collect it myself from tesco as the van man was off sick!
I quite like meandering round the store and trying out new products. Also treating myself to things on a whim ie: DVDs, Cakes, Clothes etc!

blueteddy · 22/05/2006 15:17

We always get ours delivered - it is so much easier & I hate shopping - especially with kids!
