It is like steptoes yard atm!But will be nice if we ever get started! This is the first house where it is my taste for the decor and not something agreeable to many for selling purposes!

I'm insanely jealous of the wine glass ledge type bath you have in mind. Agree with you - fuck practicality, this is about sheer decadance and indulgence. Enjoy - and send us some pics when it's installed (minus you in it obviously)Grin

plummymummy · 13/05/2006 14:48

Doh! decadence Plummy used to spell so well Blush

mousiemousie · 13/05/2006 20:43

for pure comfort try a revolving toilet on a pedestal with an electronic recline function in the very centre of the room. That way you can keep your eye on everything.

cod · 13/05/2006 20:43

youd have terrible condesnation

cod · 13/05/2006 20:44

and it woudl have to be clean al the time
Sill y idea imo

mousiemousie · 13/05/2006 20:46

? better to go for something that can be dirty all the time cod?

JanH · 13/05/2006 20:47

A scum-coloured bath would do that.

cod · 13/05/2006 20:47

no i mean wiht a n ensuite bath you can shutt he door
we had wuite bad condensation in our bedroom last winter ans we worked out it was form showering or bathing wiht hee bath door open

JanH · 13/05/2006 20:50

I leave the en suite door open on purpose to let its condensation evaporate into the bedroom, otherwise the tiles drip for hours - it doesn't seem to affect the bedroom though (no tiles) so a bath in the bedroom could be fine from that pov as long as it's big enough and warm enough.

pipo · 13/05/2006 20:53

I have stayed in a B&B with a bath in the bedroom.Never again.I coulndn't relax in the bath whilst DH was sipping a cup of tea on the bed.I like to have my own space-not be overlooked.

dyzzidi · 13/05/2006 21:04

I would love a bath in my bedroom but don't have the room. Did you see one of the extreme makeover home editions where they put the ensuite with very expensive folding doors for privacy when needed. Also I would love an infinity bath where it fills from the ceiling.

Oh god why didn't I win the lottery tonight i would be so good at planning to build my house

NotAnOtter · 13/05/2006 21:11

not for me the bedrooms for being dirty in isn't it? Grin

Prufrock · 13/05/2006 21:20

Noddy, I have builders here at the moment ripping out walls between my bedromm/ensuite/dressing room to create one open plan bedroom and bathroom. We have a wall in the centre of the room, which the bed backs onto, and the basin and loo on the other side of the wall, with the loo screened by frosted glass partitions. The bath is in one corner, before the wall starts so it's completey open plan to the room. I can lie in bed or teh bath and watch the TV, which is mounted in teh middle of the fitted wardrobes on the wall opposite the bed.

Good ventilation is key - especially as the other corner of our room will be taken up with a shower/steam room! We are having Air-con fitted in the bedroom area, a ventilator in the steam room and have two windows in the room. We also have a step up to the bathroom area (more to fit the plumbing under than for stylistic reasons tbh) but it does provide defition between the two. The bedroom side is carpeted/painted, and the bathroom floor and walls are all tiled in big limestone tiles, with the actual bath being surrounded by two limestone steps with inset lights. The Limestone is crucial, because teh colour and matt finsih don't show dirt and streaks up as much as white glossy tiles would.

yours sounds lovely prufrock.
When we moved here (note the use of the past tense!), the main bedroom was a long room with a double bed at one end , fitted wardrobes at the other and a whacking great 4 seater jacuzzi bath with gold plated taps in the middle. Ceiling mounted disco lights, a built in sound system and a really attractive plastic marble fireplace really added to the ambience. We called it the Lurve room
Can still remember the removal mens faces when they went upstairs!

Wow miggy!! very Austin Powers

Next · 13/05/2006 21:38

I'd have kept it that way but added mirrored ceilings.

nooka · 13/05/2006 22:14

I don't think it would work for me - what if you want a bath but your dh wants to go to sleep? I would also have thought that you would need a good extractor fan which would be noisy - I don't like the idea of condensation from the bath going on my bed! Our bathroom has a serious condensation problem, which is fine because it's only the bathroom, but I wouldn't like that in my bedroom. But if it works for you then go for it!

JanH · 13/05/2006 22:16

nooka, slight diversion, is your loo in your bathroom? If so do you have to replace the seat (at vast expense) about every 6 months because the fixings have rusted away?

Our bathroom also suffers from a lot of condensation and I'm beginning to wonder if we could just do without a seat and perch on the rim!

nooka · 13/05/2006 22:38

JanH - I thought you posted was my loo in my bedroom! (actually my parents have just installed a loo in the corner of their bedroom, which I think is a bit weird). We have only had to replace the loo seat the once, and it had rusted. Our new one has gone a bit wonky a year or so in - I will check to see if it's going too!

cod · 13/05/2006 22:39
