Was talking to one the other day and he said "Oh yes, we're all prepared... we've got the nurserypainted."

My how I sniggered to myself. And remembered that I was just as niave* pre-DS1. :)

I can never spell this sdding word!

"I am overcome with respect, I am obviously a lazy cow"

I carried ds in a front carrier till he was 7 months old and then carried him in a back carrier till just before his second birthday. Guide dog in one hand and pushchair in the other is just not practically possible, and although many dog owners have specially made harnasses so they can drag a pushchair behind them, I was never comfortable with that idea so I carried ds. As soon as he was able to walk I let him walk a little bit and gradually increased the distance till he could walk almost everywhere, ditched the carrier just before his 2nd birthday and never looked back. we did have a pushchair though which came out at weekends when dh was home.

remember one friend though saying that she'd packed her bag for hospital, including her make-up bag and nail varnish because "I just can't be seen without my make-up, the baby will just have to wait for me to put my make-up on in the mornings". how I laughed

This thread has had me in tears. Loved the cat. I've nothing anywhere near as funny to report, though did have very cynical and ought-to-be-ashamed-of-myself giggle when one girl at NCT classes said the thing she was most looking forward to about having a baby was how much it was going to bring her and her DH together....

Moomin · 05/05/2006 23:13

that's just reminded me of our parent-craft classes for 1st timers. the MW told us to bring a dolly one week and i guessed it would be to either practice bathing it or do some stuff on breastfeeding. It was the latter and you should have heard the row between one couple who'd not got a doll so had brought what they thought was the next best thing - a stuffed womble... I'm still laughing remembering the girl being really earnest listening to the MW as she positioned Orinoco to her nork Grin

A friend borrowed a clarinet off another friend so that she could learn to play while on her maternity leave....bless

Fantastic thread! Ha ha at the cat and all the others. I said 'oh for goodness sake, how hard can it be?' before ds was born. A (childless, in her fifties) woman at work said recently about maternity leave 'well, I'd love six months off wouldn't it be nice?' I put her straight getting in the phrases 'human race' and 'bloody hard work,' among others.

marthamoo · 06/05/2006 11:58

I'm glad the cat story was appreciated Grin The sad thing is I really believed it.

I like the Womble Grin

kitegirl · 07/05/2006 08:10

Great thread!
A friend expecting her first one just said 'oooh I can't wait to start maternity leave and finally be able to RELAX and do all the things I never had to do because of my job! I am going to read lots of books when the baby sleeps and study French. It'll be like a long holiday, I can't wait!'

I didn't say anything. Let her figure it out, poor sod. Grin

batters, I don't think I've ever made anyone squeal with joy before - cool Grin!

SoupDragon · 07/05/2006 14:06

"fit in seamlessly" Snort!!

I think the best thing about sniggering at first time parents is that we were all there saying and doing the same things once. Oh how blissful that ignorance was... sigh

Moomin - my dh packed a large bugs bunny for our ante-natal talk, we didn't have a doll. Imagine the teeth, and trying to position the ears whilst pretending to bfeed - I was giggling my head off.

marthamoo · 07/05/2006 14:08

Soupy, been looking for you - love your tip on the homepage Grin

SoupDragon · 07/05/2006 14:11

Earnest friend expecting twins demanded to know about routines and what books to read in anticipation - "Because, you know, i think with twins it will be essential to have a strict routine" PMSL
