Was talking to one the other day and he said "Oh yes, we're all prepared... we've got the nurserypainted."

My how I sniggered to myself. And remembered that I was just as niave* pre-DS1. :)

I can never spell this sdding word!

welshmum · 04/05/2006 12:34

Mind you my sister did say she would never sniff a baby's bottom and she has stuck to it...(not the bottom)

lazycow · 04/05/2006 12:34

Oi HC - that's me

Seriously Leah - I used a carrier a lot (still do and DS is 17 months old) but lugging all that stuff around was just too much for me when we were out for too long. Also DS really won't sleep in the carriers we have now - or worse he has a 20-30 minute nap and wakes up so grumpy and bad-tempered we have to go home.

So we are the odd family who have that 'worst of both worlds' way of taking a puchchair and carrying ds in a carrier as well Grin if we are going out for longer than a couple of hours.

rantingredhead · 04/05/2006 12:51

Are you lot trying to tell me that my life will never be the same again?

That it won't get back to normal?

This baby won't change my life one bit!
I'm going to continue spending ages to get ready, go shopping and to restaurants, have lots of lie ins and long hot baths!

I'm not naive Grin he, he

LeahE · 04/05/2006 13:18

I am overcome with respect. I am obviously a lazy cow

Nah... DS just hated his buggy/pushchair from the start and would scream non-stop when put into it (when he was v little, a friend who was an experienced mother-of-two volunteered to take him for a walk with a cheery comment of "oh, he'll soon settle" and is, I think, still faintly traumatised by the experience), so I didn't get much option in the early months and never got into the habit of using it. I tend to have DS on my front and the stuff on my back... and sometimes a bag in each hand as well Blush. Makes public transport interesting...

Personally I have my picture in the dictionary under the definition of 'lazy' Grin

KTeePee · 04/05/2006 13:38

But SoupDragon, at least the person in your original post had the nursery painted - I foolishly thought I would have so much time on my hands when on maternity leave that I would wait until then to do it - needless to say it never got done!

pucca · 04/05/2006 13:42

I ended up on the maternity ward on Monday night (24 weeks long story but all ok now) there were 2 new 1st time mothers obviously had their babies that day, so their 1st night.

One of them was bottle feeding and ended up sobbing because the baby kept waking up Shock was wailing to one of the midwives saying "she won't sleep for more than a couple of hours" erm yes, thats normal! did feel sorry for her though, obviously had no idea what would happen, the midwives kept taking the baby for her, but she was still upset..god help her.

Munz · 04/05/2006 13:43

lol, I was told yesterday that a baby's a lot of hard work to lok after by someone who's 6 months pg! (no kids either) followed by Joey's so good for you he never crys - oh really! lol.

(I was smuggly thinking he he he u have this all to come! lol)

Angeliz · 04/05/2006 13:44

I did think there was a funny thread on here not so long ago like that.
(SO sorry if you're reading and hope it all went well but i did find it funny).
It was about someone wanting to go abroad about 2 weeks after the baby was born (i think she thought it was going to come early). She then had visions of lying by the pool with the baby resting next to her. I hate Mickey taking and hope i don't offned but that was funny.
I was healthy pretty soon after both girls but that would be pushing itGrin

TinyGang · 04/05/2006 13:46

If people knew what was coming their way the human race would probably become extinctGrin

I can remember ticking off all these boxes. I was SO prepared. Three children later I'll just add the word...'not'.

I just nod and smile these days - whateverWinkSmile

alexsmum · 04/05/2006 13:50

angeliz i remember that! and in the two weeks between baby being born and going away , they were going to go to london to get a passport in person! and she was going to take the baby in the pool! the 2 week old baby!

Issyfit · 04/05/2006 13:53

From a friend of a friend:

"I don't know what all the fuss is about, if I can manage a team of 24 at work, I can manage one small baby."

Gorgeous!

Munz · 04/05/2006 13:53

( 2 week I was bearly able to leave the house to walk to the end of the drive and back! lol)

morningpaper · 04/05/2006 14:06

What happened to the pregnant woman who was going to New York for three months on business when her baby was 6 week so she was going to follow Gina Ford so she would know when she could plan meetings

I wonder how that went? Grin

Angeliz · 04/05/2006 14:06

nailpolish · 04/05/2006 14:07

god i remember her MP

unbelievable

marthamoo · 04/05/2006 14:12

Embarrassing confession here...

When I was expecting ds1 a childless friend said to me "oh, I couldn't do it - I couldn't cope with the sleepless nights..."

I said, confidently, "oh, I'm not worried about that - I was fine looking after the cat at night when he was poorly."

Yeah, that was for two nights and then we had him put down...

Greensleeves · 04/05/2006 14:14

I remember waiting for an antenatal check-up and there was a group of mums sitting on the floor having a meeting on the other side of the room. They were talking about weaning foods and the relative merits of carrot and sweet potato etc. I remember saying "God, I am NEVER going to be one of those women. If you ever catch me droning on about carrot puree, shoot me."

Um.Blush

bubblepop · 04/05/2006 14:22

my sis won't give her ds chocolate or an ice pop.(not even a teeny bit).juice has to be cow & gate.she carrys her everywhere (she's 17months)never puts her down! not surpriseingly when she is put down, she's always legging it off.she has to get her to sleep by rocking her to a certain song.the kid lives on an array of vegetables, fab i know, but would you want to eat a sprig of broccoli and a sprig of cauliflower for you lunch?she can't have 'ice cream or jam' cos it'l make her go doolally.she had bad colic as a baby, ofcourse she's the only child in the world who's ever suffered from it.and now she's gonna try for another one...

Caligula · 04/05/2006 14:25

"I'm going to come back to work after 3 months".

"You might not want to".

"There is no way I won't want to. I will miss work. 12 weeks is such a long time off, I can't understand all these women who take months off. What the hell are they doing in all that time?"

Raggydoll · 04/05/2006 14:51

sobernow - love the 'not wanting primary colours' just glancing round my living room makes my eyes sore - there is bright red/blue/yellow plastic everywhere! Practically spat my coffee out when i read your post...

fruitful · 04/05/2006 15:19

"No way am I going back to work soon after having the baby. After all that hard work (pg and birth, I presume) I'm going to need some time off!". I explained, fairly gently, that if she wanted time off she would need to return to work to get it. She didn't believe me.

expatinscotland · 04/05/2006 15:21

Some poor lamb on another board, expecting her first next month, asked what maternity knickers are for . . .

Harpsichordcarrier · 04/05/2006 15:25

"I am looking forward to a nice rest in my maternity leave" hahahahaha
we do a little exercise where the couples look at a 24 hour clock and imagine what the day might look like after the baby is born
"well the baby will sleep between 9am and 12"
"we will put the baby down at seven before we have dinner..."
[HC stifles giggles]

motherinferior · 04/05/2006 15:27

Someone actually told me that pregnancy insomnia was worse because 'at least when I've had the baby it'll go back to sleep'...EH???

colditz · 04/05/2006 15:28

Overheard in Maternity hospital...

"She keeps crying all the time!"

FGS, didn't anyone warn this poor girl? (the baby really wasn't crying that much, actually!)
