Very posh restaurant required in central London. Ideas please.

I wish to pick your brains if I may.

Top client wants me to book dinner in a very nice restaurant in London. Only for 15 guests. Celebrating a recent financial sucess. Money no object. But he doesn't want anywher too 'ovbious' like The Ivy.

London is not my forte.

Ideas appreciated. TIA!

Second Frederick's. Northerner, have you looked at the toptable web site - I know you want a personal recommendation but you could then look at the images etc on the web site and read reviews.

or if they're real meat eaters Club Gascon is foie gras central...a real treat. we had the tasting menu where you get a glass of different wine with each course (about 6 I think) and it was £50 a head.

Frederick's is lovely - my sister had her wedding lunch there. Is Langan's too obvious? Had two great meals there.

If he wants very expensive, there's Sketch. Supposed to be the most expensive restaurant in London. Anyone been?

I love Frederick's also. Are they meat eaters? How about Smith's of Smithfields top floor or if they're a bit more adventurous, St John. Both are around Smithfield Market.

Thanks All.

I am suggesting to him: Mirabelle, Gordon Ramsay's, Sketch & Frederick's. Gonna get sample menus and leave the final choice to him.

Anthony Bourdain, who is a New York chef and writer, reckons Smiths is the best restaurant in London...

Le Gavroche, La Tante Claire, Gordon Ramsey, Nico Ladenis (wherever he is now). I don't think Smiths has a posh enough entrance.

Smiths is the best in town and has fabulous private dining room on top floor
see the website here which is particularly funky as my DH designed it

BTW Smiths is FANTASTIC for Sunday Brunch with kids as they tolerate lots of running about and they can watch the trains from the windows and has very laid back atmosphere s is run by an Aussie.

www, a colleague of mine was taken to Sketch by a gallerist who was obviously trying to impress. She got lost in the toilet pods... (and she said the food was overated)
