I wish to pick your brains if I may.

Top client wants me to book dinner in a very nice restaurant in London. Only for 15 guests. Celebrating a recent financial sucess. Money no object. But he doesn't want anywher too 'ovbious' like The Ivy.

London is not my forte.

Ideas appreciated. TIA!

Second Frederick's. Northerner, have you looked at the toptable web site - I know you want a personal recommendation but you could then look at the images etc on the web site and read reviews.

Ooh, Frederick's is lovely!

bundle · 08/01/2004 16:23

or if they're real meat eaters Club Gascon is foie gras central...a real treat. we had the tasting menu where you get a glass of different wine with each course (about 6 I think) and it was £50 a head.

Northerner · 08/01/2004 16:25

These sound great will check them out. Sykes - I am gonna look at that website now.

Thanks all.

Frederick's is lovely - my sister had her wedding lunch there. Is Langan's too obvious? Had two great meals there.

Fredericks website

sykes · 08/01/2004 16:29

www.toptable.co.uk - am sure you have that/worked it out, just in case.

WideWebWitch · 08/01/2004 16:29

If he wants very expensive, there's Sketch. Supposed to be the most expensive restaurant in London. Anyone been?

WideWebWitch · 08/01/2004 16:31

But there are some terrible reviews of it here . You could search for reviews of the others on this site though.

M2T · 08/01/2004 16:33

Dino - What's a Dinky??

JJ · 08/01/2004 16:34

I love Frederick's also. Are they meat eaters? How about Smith's of Smithfields top floor or if they're a bit more adventurous, St John. Both are around Smithfield Market.

MMMMM... meat.

Northerner · 08/01/2004 16:35

DINKY - Double income no kids yet.

Thanks All.

I am suggesting to him: Mirabelle, Gordon Ramsay's, Sketch & Frederick's. Gonna get sample menus and leave the final choice to him.

Thanks - your all fab!

Anthony Bourdain, who is a New York chef and writer, reckons Smiths is the best restaurant in London...

Davros · 08/01/2004 17:26

Le Gavroche, La Tante Claire, Gordon Ramsey, Nico Ladenis (wherever he is now). I don't think Smiths has a posh enough entrance.

suzywong · 08/01/2004 17:35

Smiths is the best in town and has fabulous private dining room on top floor
see the website here which is particularly funky as my DH designed it

BTW Smiths is FANTASTIC for Sunday Brunch with kids as they tolerate lots of running about and they can watch the trains from the windows and has very laid back atmosphere s is run by an Aussie.

OK shall stop now

jodee · 08/01/2004 18:59

Agree with Twinkie that The Don is excellent.

jodee · 08/01/2004 19:04

And there's another great site you can look at for reviews: www.squaremeal.co.uk

www, a colleague of mine was taken to Sketch by a gallerist who was obviously trying to impress. She got lost in the toilet pods... (and she said the food was overated)
