I threw the TV remote at the wall so hard this morning it left a hole!

I have had it up to here with my almost 4 yr old DD just now. She refuses point blank to let me dress her in the morning(fine if a non-nursery day, but not if she has to be out of the house by 8am). I have tried most tactics - pursuasion, distraction, letting her choose her clothes and dress herself. But this morning I lost my temper, manhandled her into a teeshirt, which resulted in her running away screaming and my blood pressure soaring with the resulting hole in the wall.
There must be an easier way???

throw something soft instead
cheaperGrin

MadameDeMars · 03/04/2006 15:32

well ginger... at least you didn't throw her.

I'm not sure what to suggest! It's a painful stage.

I remember listening to Dawn French tell Parky how that exact situation used to occur in her house. I laughed cos it was so familiar and cried because I have it to come again.

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 15:33

lol, I have just imagined you saying that in the style of Lily Savage - are you a proper scouser? Grin thank you!

JoolsToo · 03/04/2006 15:33

manhandling is the only answer at this stage Grin

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 15:34

Maybe if I just sit on her?

MadameDeMars · 03/04/2006 15:35

suzywong · 03/04/2006 15:36

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 15:36

Gingerbear, you are only human! We all have our bad days.

fairydust · 03/04/2006 15:41

I have the same problem with dd so i get up earlier in the morning to give her more time to do it.

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 15:44

Oh, lord! We are up at 6.30 now! I can't fully function before 7.30.

Can't be a redhead thing SW, mine was out of a bottle!

Snap dd2 is the limit at the moment.
Have you tried getting her to choose her own clothes before she goes to bed, this worked for us for a few weeks..

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 15:59

Hello anteater, not seen you here for ages! Yes, I will try that tactic, thanks. (Once I have been and bought pollyfilla, later today)

may I join you in throwing things at the wall today Gingermy dear? Its the first proper day of the holidays and I could merrily murder both of them. They won't stop arguing and fighting and winding each other up - they used to love each other so much and get on really well. I yave snuck to the pc for a quiet five mins (who and I kidding?!) and a sneaky packet of crisps.

MrsRecycle · 03/04/2006 16:16

Following on from anteater's suggestion - get her to lay the clothes out in a "clothes kid" ie top/bottoms/socks all in the shape of a kid. Do it before they go to bed and once they're up in the morning it's great fun getting dressed into their "kids" clothes.

Gingerbear · 03/04/2006 16:19

Hello Cadders my dear, ready now...One, two, three....ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!
Is there a let off steam thread here today already?

way ahead of you in the screaming states - have seen my neighbours running from their homes with their hands over their ears shouting "Make it stop, make it stop!"

Ds has fallen asleep at the dinner table (very cute) and dd is having a story with daddy. I am off out with Aero to girlies4's house to celebrate girlies birthday in a mo - can't wait. I'm really gagging for a glass of wine and some chocolate Grin

Been meaning to ask you how your dh is now Gingerbear?

buffythenappyslayer · 03/04/2006 19:15

dont worry about it gingerbear.weve all had days like that!
my dh smacked the wall with a church candle, knocked all the plaster through the wall and could see the breezeblocks!!!(it was our neighbour banging and the kids screaming that drove him to it!!)

Nbg · 03/04/2006 19:15

My ex once threw a corkscrew at the wall because he couldn't get in to a bottle of vino.

Now that made a mess!!!

Youhave my sympathies GB. DD is doing this already at 2.5!
Clothes are off by lunchtime at our house!

Not me though, obviously.

magnolia1 · 03/04/2006 19:17

Gingerbear, did the remote control survive?

poppiesinaline · 03/04/2006 19:45

Apples are good. They are inexpensive, dont dent the wall and make a great SPLATTER noise when they disintegrate! Grin They do leave stains though but DH loves telling everyone what the stains are Wink

WestCountryLass · 03/04/2006 20:36

I sat on my DS and manhandled him into his clothes yesterday morning and he then took the whole lot off, I could have screamed!!!!!

Gingerbear · 04/04/2006 14:49

Remote control fine.
No hassles at all this morning - DD chose her clothes last night and we set them out next to her bed. She dressed herself (all except tights)

Cadders, all clear with DH now - he has a fetching 'man-scar' on his face now.
