Cinema with 5yo, 7yo and an 8 week old baby?

Is this feasible with one adult? DSs want to see Ice Age 2 and I am thinking of using it as a bribe for good behaviour on the School Shoe Shopping Trip. Used to do a soft play place where I could lounge around on a sofa and drink coffeebut it's shut. Bah!

I would do it but probably only with dh so he could remove baby if necessary

or you could walk baby around in foyer while ds's watch the film if baby gets restless?

will the boys understand if you have to leave?

let me know how it goes Grin

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 08:28

That's the tricky bit - apparently DH is "busy at work" !

ah

that old chestnut

Blandmum · 02/04/2006 08:30

can you go with another mum and kids who could keep an eye on your two if you needed to pop out with the babe?

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 09:31

Sadly not :) I would actually trust DSs to be alone for a short while if necessary but would hope constant bf-ing and the magic Sling of Sleep would keep DD quiet/asleep for the 90 minutes.

I would-took my b/fed baby to cinema all the time!
(Bit off that your dh has left you with the three of them isn't it??)

crunchie · 02/04/2006 09:42

We went to this yesterday and there was one mum with a 4 month old in a sling - didn't hear a peep out of the baby. I would do it tbh :)

kitty4paws · 02/04/2006 09:49

I found that the combination of a full tummy, next to mummy in the sling and the dark, warm cinema and when ever I went with my babes they just slept through the whole thing.

I'd go, especialy as ice age 1 is one of my favourtie films !

crazydazy · 02/04/2006 09:50

You are brave if you do.

WideWebWitch · 02/04/2006 09:54

I think I'd give it a go, although I'd be happier with 2 adults. 5yo and 7yo are prob bribable to behave aren't they so you would just have to sit near the doors and leave it you needed to. At least you'd know where the other 2 were, they wouldn't be able to leave without getting past you.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 09:56

I'm beginning to get cold feet :o

DD should just sleep in the pouch sling. should being the problem... Why oh why did the soft play place close? That was a far more sensible bribe!! I just need to get the dreaded shoe trip out of the way so I can relax for the rest of easter.

GeorginaA · 02/04/2006 09:57

Noooo.... the really nice soft play place in the cinema complex closed?! That's a travesty!

Wallace · 02/04/2006 10:05

I would do it. I hope it works fine because I will be in the exact same position come summer time Grin

I would trust ds and dd to sit nicely if I had to pop out. I reckon the baby will sleep.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 10:06

It is indeed, Georgina :(. I think (and hope) it's just being refitted having been taken over by another company. Someone muttered something along these lines along with "new organic menu".

GeorginaA · 02/04/2006 10:08

Oh in which case I shall just be envious rather than sad then.

Was always a lovely place, fantastic location... would be surprised if they were struggling tbh.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 10:17

I don't get it either. I guess it was always emptyish during the week but heaving at the weekend.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 16:09

Wimped out :o

Well, postponed it. I decide that as DD had been asleep for the duration of the shopping trip, expecting her to behave for the film was asking too much. Will try it another day, without the shopping.

Did manage to get school shoe shopping out of the way though

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 02/04/2006 16:34

Oh well done!

Shoe shopping - hate it hate it hate it. I'm going to have to replace ds1's shoes soon - they're all scuffed and falling apart (but they still fit him, damnit!!!). Argh.

SoupDragon · 02/04/2006 17:55

DS2s shoes still fit him but he's had them since September and they're looking awful. I was tempted not to buy him new ones as the old ones are basically sound but felt sorry for him :) Not helped by the fact he's a H fitting and they never have the flashing shoes he so desperately desires.

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 02/04/2006 18:20

Yes, ds1 has had his since September...

... I just have this nagging fear that I'll replace them and then he'll suddenly grow out of the new ones, meaning I'll have wasted that money on a new pair that'll hardly see feet in them.

I'm sure school shoes when I was a child had to last all year... or is that just selective memory from when I was older and feet didn't grow as fast?!

spidermama · 02/04/2006 18:22

I've done this and it's fine. More than fine. It's a lovely rest for you. Baby will sleep and eat, the other two will sit comatose. The only hard part is dealing with snacks and coats while faffing around with baby sling.

Enjoy and good luck.

spidermama · 02/04/2006 18:24

Whooops! Sorry. Just read thread and noticed you wimped out.

Bwaack, bw'ck bw'ck bw'ck bw'ck, bwaaack! Wink

SoupDragon · 03/04/2006 10:52

hehehe. I will try it but I decided it would be pushing my luck to try it when BabyDragon had already been asleep for over an hour in the sling.

serenity · 03/04/2006 10:58

Oh poo, just went to the Playtown website and it's gone. I hope it has been taken over by someone else.

SD - you were braver than me to even consider it. I'm still having kittens over whether to take all mine and they're 8,5 and 2!

joelalie · 03/04/2006 11:35

Yep....as soon as I read that you are bf-ing I knew you'd be OK. That's the magic formula (so to speak Wink). The older two will be so absorbed by the film that they'll be fine and the baby will probably sleep - it'll be warm and dark and you can feed if neccessary.

Now taking an 8yr old, a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old........ is a totally different matter Angry

Only thing that might be problematic is whether you can get buggy (if using one) into the cinema in the first place. Ours is an old style cinema with steps up to the door and that's a bit tricky. Also is there anywhere safe to leave it whilst you are watching the film?

Good luck
