I agree, try your own bank, they can see your financial situation and will be in a better position to help you (hopefully). Is the £1000 for something essential?

desperateSCOUSEwife · 31/03/2006 18:36

even if you went to the provy or shopacheck
I very much doubt they would lend you a grand

it usually starts off with obtaining vouchers

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 18:36

I over enthusiastically booked a holiday to see my mum in Lanzarote, we go in 7 weeks, it was a stupid spur of the moment thing, we should have left it a few more monthsBlush

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/03/2006 18:37

oops.....Grin

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 18:38

Blush I always laugh when someone else accidently outs themselves...........laughing on the other side of my face nowGrin

desperateSCOUSEwife · 31/03/2006 18:38

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 18:39

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/03/2006 18:40

I only Grin because i have done it myself Blush

bubblerock · 31/03/2006 18:40

oops - hey don't worry about it - we've all been there, nothing to be ashamed about.

Can you tell your mum that you will not be able to go due to finances - would she help out? What will you lose if you cancel the holiday?

bubblerock · 31/03/2006 18:42

I have to be boring here and say I would forfeit the holiday rather than go to a loan shark - it's really not worth it on a luxury (I know it's not just a holiday, but still not essential)

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 18:44

I really cant let my mum down, she is desperate to see dts, she has not seen them since they were 6 months, and she loaned us half the flight money.

I paid the deposit£200 a few weeks ago, and the rest a week later, but they only took out the £200 yesterday, I had'nt noticed at the time that they did'nt take it out, so the money they took out yesterday was to pay for 4 passport(having a nightmare with them too)

desperateSCOUSEwife · 31/03/2006 18:44

I agree with bubblerock
I have been to back street loan sharks and the interest is sky high
provy and shopacheck are no better neither
not preaching but have been there iykwim and it is shit

bubblerock · 31/03/2006 18:48

Okay, so you need £1000 in 7 weeks? Anything you can sell? Can you/dh do extra shifts - think moneyspinning Grin

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 18:58

I often get sent home from my own shiftsAngry so no chance of any overtime, and dh already works about 70 hrs a week.

spacecadet · 31/03/2006 18:59

waterfalls- i only wish i could help, you were so kind to me when i needed it.
agree with bubblerock, is there anything you can sell?

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 19:01

pehaps a few odds and ends, well bric a brak really, so not enough to make any significant difference.

spacecadet · 31/03/2006 19:04

i dont know what else to suggestSad

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 19:11

Dont worry, come hell or high water, we will be goingGrin

spacecadet · 31/03/2006 19:18

any chance of getting some temp work anywhere to save up the extra money?

waterfalls · 31/03/2006 19:24

spacecadet
Yes, have been looking, but its awkward with dh hours, he works days and most evenings. There is a job going for something I am trained in that is good money, I think I might apply for that, but it would mean dh giving up his day shifts, so we need to work out whether it is worth it first.[smile0

spacecadet · 31/03/2006 19:30

yes i see your problem Sad

charliecat · 31/03/2006 20:07

could you get a bootsale together ebay anything that might fetch a bit.borrow 100 quid from 10 friends???!!!

GarfieldsGirl · 31/03/2006 20:53

Can you get a Barclaycard? They give them to most people, no matter how bad credit is, and if you're booking a holiday you're better doing it by credit card cos you're insured for all sorts of things, that you're not if you pay by cash.

noddyholder · 31/03/2006 20:59

Really really scrimp on weekly shopping expenses and you can accumulate a fair bit in 7 weeks Don't go to a Loan shark Do a carboot sale Ebay anything else

MillionDollarBaby · 31/03/2006 21:12
  1. Go back to your bank, explain the problem - ask for an agreed overdraft or an extension to your current overdraft. If you have money coming in regularly there shouldn't be too much of a problem. They may be able to off other loan advice too. It doesn't matter if you've been once, go again and again and again..
  1. Ask your mum to help further with the cost, explain honestly that you naffed up with the money and that you'll pay her back!
  1. sell your non-essential electrical good through a free adds paper - microwave, stereo, computer, dishwasher etc anythingl ike that.. if you can afford to pay back a loan shark monthly you should be able to save up and buy these things back in not time.
  1. As somebody else already suggested, scrimp on the shopping.. Netto's Aldi, Lidls etc
  1. trade in your car for an old run-around.
  1. If you smoke or drink - quit - at least until the holiday is paid for.

Personally I'm with those who say cancell the holiday. Nothing is worth a loan shark but if you're adament then at least consider other suggestions first.

Loan sharks are for fools. Certainly a holiday isn't worth the trouble you could get into and suffer for the rest of your life.
