Just sitting with dd doing our letters when she remarked - "we give out more presents than we get thank yous!" Hmm.
do you send them?

Mine all written and ready for posting. Dh forgot to take them to work today to post out. DD is only 20 months so did them all for her obviously. She adds her squiggle at the bottom. Handwritten this year too - may go back to the computer ones for her birthday as took ages. They are appreciated though, especially from the older relatives.

We sent ours out this week. Printed personalised cards on the computer then handwrote inside. Can't wait until ds is old enough to do his own

Do you have Publisher. YOu could make your own template and have an outline picture on the front for him to colour in. I am sure your could get an outline of a suitable image on Microsoft's clipart pages to download.

Have to say I have only ever received one thank you letter back after Christmas or birthdays. That was my cousin's little girl (written by parents when little) after we had sent them one for DD's present a month or so before. Not received one before or since though (not even from them). Maybe it is a dying art? Sad really

Mummysurfer · 02/01/2004 14:28

Having stirred everyone into doing Thank yous, we did 3, DD got fed up and we've given up

My brother refuses to send them, excuse is "Don't send a present if you expect a thank you". However .. he expects the presents!

No, we don't. We say thank you in person or phone to say thanks. Like SueW, we would only write if neither was possible.

Browbeaten · 02/01/2004 17:12

We send them for birthdays but not for christmas pressies as we speak to all the rellies on christmas day and thank them personally. DOn't usually get alot of thank you cards sent to us though but I agree the older rellies appreciate the thought.

WSM · 02/01/2004 17:38

We send them, but haven't got round to it yet. Usually manage to get them done the week after New Year.

eidsvold · 02/01/2004 20:27

sent dd's off last monday...

lavender1 · 02/01/2004 20:39

No, because dh and I only ones who bought pressies for them this year, cos friends don't (gets quite expensive) and rels don't every year...would make phonecall if did though

fisil · 02/01/2004 20:44

Got mine off on Wednesday. I'd never even thought about whether we get them back. It just wouldn't feel right if we didn't.

BadHair · 02/01/2004 22:31

We send them to the rellies that we don't see often, but who tend to send presents or money anyway. Did them all yesterday but haven't posted them cos I forgot to buy stamps.
Father Christmas gave ds1 some glitter pens in the hope of minimising the sparkly mess made by the real stuff, but living room still covered in twinkly bits of goo. Hoover also full of it - how does so little go so far?
Stressyhead, my ds's got Sound of Music as the background to the card creations too. They weren't impressed, and certainly not by mummy's karaoke rendition of Favourite Things.

I dont normally send them but think I might this year, thing is I cant remember who bought what for you! Do you just do a general thank you for the gift or is it expected to get specific and say "thank you for the lovely xyz, junior really loved xyz"

I always send them. Mostly because my mum made me when I was young! But it's good manners isn't it? And seems bloody ungrateful if you don't bother...having said that, I've only done 2 so far, for 2 neighbours who made pressies for them.

I will be doing the rest though. Usually type (or get ds to type) a short note and get ds to do a picture, but occasionally do handwritten notes or longer letters to various people.

Altho' I'm not keen on receiving none personalized ones, they're better than nothing. So Becca send them anyway. Dh & I always keep a list going as they open stuff.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 04/01/2004 15:02

I always personalise ours too, even if done on the computer. I always say thank you for what they brought and give a little sentence or two about that thing. When DD got money or vouchers I had spent them and wrapped a pressie up in advance (DD is only 20 months) so I said what we had gotten too.
