Just sitting with dd doing our letters when she remarked - "we give out more presents than we get thank yous!" Hmm.
do you send them?

We send them to older relatives who expect them, and we say thank you on the phone or in person to everyone else.

But I'm not that keen on receiving thank you notes myself. They always seem stilted and formulaic (you say thank you, you say something nice about the present, you say something about what you've been doing recently, you say thank you again...next one...). Or maybe they just make me feel guilty!

I did dd's for her as she is only 14 months. I wrote them out and she made harsh crayon scribbles on the bottom of the paper and also on my wooden floor grrrrrrrrrrr.

My mum and dad were over the moon to receive a letter addressed to Gran and Grandad and have put the card on the mantlepiece.

Think it is a v good habit to get into.

Yep - they got a joint birthday and Xmas one thought as her b.day is 8 days before Xmas so sorry but I couldn't do that job twice over! I make sure I make a note of who bought what so I can thank them for the doll or paints etc rather than just say thanks for the gift. I spend time and effort picking presents out for friends kids and would hate to think they didn't even know what I had ended up getting them becuase it just got thrown into the huge pile of opened presents.

Beccarollover · 05/01/2004 12:51

I can remember everything they got from the people I need to thank actually - but must make a list next year, I get as caught up in it all as DD does and forgot this year.

Yeah Xams isn't too bad but if I hadn't made scribbled notes at her little bithday party I wouldn't have known who got what. It got a bit mad with all the other kids opening presents for her while I was getting the adults a glass of bubbly and a mince pie!
