Can Someone In Ireland Help me

If I wanted to put an ad in a paper trying to find someone where would I start, what papers should I try?

I lost touch with a close friend over 10yrs ago and would love to get back in touch with her. She moved to Ireland not long after and is now married with children. The problem is I dont know where she lives or what her married name is and there is no one I can ask to find out. I have tried Friends Reunited but she isnt listed on there. I have often thought about her over the years and would love the chance to apologise for being a total arse.

If I was to put ads in papers what would be the best ones, have never done this before so dont know where to start.

this is hard - do you have any idea what part of ireland she moved too? It could make a big difference to what papers (or local radio stations) I would suggest.

kid · 23/03/2006 22:39

You can add her name to friends reunited 'looking for' incase anyone else is still in touch with her.

chipmonkey · 23/03/2006 22:41

The Independant or the Times are the "reputable" papers. There's also "The Herald" and we have our Irish versions of the Sun and the Daily Mirror.
You could also try posting a message on the Irish versions of Mumsnet!
They are \link{http://www.rollercoaster.ie\rollercoaster} and \link{http://www.magicmum.com\magicmum}
If there's anything I can do to help, let me know!

Oh and you could write to The Gerry Ryan Show, c/o RTE, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. He has loads of listeners all over the country, its a phone-in show and broadcast to the whole country, not just a regional station.

flea · 23/03/2006 22:52

I was thinking - though if they had moved to the west of ireland or basically anywhere outside Dublin/the pale you would have better luck with the local radio stations (mid west radio or the like) or something like the western people or whatever is the equivalent for the local area.
We are also still a small country so you could easily do something like write a letter to say "Ray Darcy" at "Today.FM" and he could well find the story nice enough to publish. Today FM is a national Radio station so would hit a lot of people. Let me know u would like more specifics.

chipmonkey · 23/03/2006 23:08

You don't like Gerry, then, flea?Grin

flea · 23/03/2006 23:13

CM -I read your post afterwards and realised we had basically suggested the exact same show on rival stations .. but no you guessed it cant stand Gerry!

pebblemum · 24/03/2006 10:17

Thanks for the replies.

I have just registered on the Rollercoaster and MagicMums sites and posted a thread. Will wait a couple of days to see if I get any joy there (its a long shot but it may work) If that doesnt throw up anything useful I will try the radio stations and papers.

Would it be worth getting in touch with both Gerry and Ray do you think to give me a greater chance. If so does anyone know Ray's address?

Will keep you posted if I hear anything. Fingers Xed. Smile

if she is living in donegal she wont hear today fm!!

how about the joe duffy show, on Radio 1?
thats also a national station

you will get the address for all these stations online, radio 1 and 2fm will be on ret.ie (probably)

as for newspapers i think that different national papers are popular in different parts of the country.
also do you know the type of paper she is likely to read...the mirror type or the times type etc

Gloworm · 24/03/2006 10:41

were you at school or university together?

my old university has an alumni where you can get in touch with old class mates.

Mhamai · 24/03/2006 10:42

I think you mean RTE.ie gloworm Smile

Gloworm · 24/03/2006 10:46

oops

stleger · 24/03/2006 11:21

I saw your message on rollercoaster. I hope you find your friend. Can't think of anything that hasn't been suggested, but will keep thinking. Good luck.

God that's my father too! we often joke that some day he's going to open the paper and see himself in the death notices! Grin

chipmonkey · 24/03/2006 19:06

The Examiner would be good if your friend is near Cork.

pebblemum · 24/03/2006 21:17

Thanks I think that if the other websites I have posted on dont turn up anything I am going to have to try almost every paper/radio station going as I havent a clue which part of Ireland she would be in.

I have remembered that the man she married was a cousin of a boy i used to know (confusing, I know)so I may try to find him but I think he may have moved back to Ireland too. Not having much luck am I?

No matter how long it takes though I am determined to stick at it. Even if she doesnt want to speak to me when I do eventually find her at least I would have tried.

Pebblemum there's a section for Expat mums on Magicmum. Maybe that would be a good place to post? I thought of another website too, \link{http://www.eumom.com\eumom} and click on the Irish flag. But I think a lot of people who post there also post on Magicmum.

pebblemum · 27/03/2006 10:04

Just to update, have had no luck so far. I have tried websites, electrol rolls etc but obviously not knowing her married name or the area she moved to is making it harder. Have remembered that her husband is the cousin of another schoolfriend so may try looking him up but he was planning on returning to ireland a while ago so I may hit a dead end there too.

I've still had no luck tracing her twin sister either.
