I won something on e bay on the 17th march and paid for it by pay pal the next day.I sent an e mail asking if it has been dispatched yet and this was the reply

Hi, if I haven't informed you that it has been posted, then it hasn't. I
always inform buyers when their items have been dispatched, so you will
receive a message from me when it has been posted. Sorry for any
inconvenience, I have the flu at the moment & have only managed to package
items this week, but my partner should be posting some items today & I will
be posting the rest tomorrow, I will let you know whichever day it has been
posted. Best regards.

Yet she has been listing items left right and centre all week long and has received feedback for other items that ended that week .what shall i do?

There is no excuse for the lack of communication though.

Surfermum · 23/03/2006 16:59

I've never waited longer than a week for stuff to arrive, but I think I would wait 10-14 days before making enquiries. I wouldn't leave negative feedback in this instance.

Surfermum · 23/03/2006 17:00

You do have a point though about her being well enough to list things, she could have whizzed a quick email off as she was sat at the PC. That's what I'm intending on doing when I get payment for the item I've just sold - I'm housebound with dd as she has chicken pox and I'm reliant on dh getting home in time for me to get to the post office.

jabberwocky · 23/03/2006 17:05

But her partner could be the one listing for her and may have dropped the ball on letting you know about her flu.

At Christmas I waited well over two weeks for a very special Santa Claus item for ds which I had paid priority mail for Angry I was quite ticked off about it, the seller didn't mail it for over a week. But, it did arrive in time for Christmas and was in perfect shape, so I still left positive feedback.

overdraft · 23/03/2006 17:05

just feel like i was snaped at for asking where the item was 5 days after paying for it without a word from her.How long is reasonable to wait before wondering where it is? I won't leave neg feedback if i get it very soon.Wasn't wondering about feedback really just the waiting times as i have never waited that long

OP posts:
Twiglett · 23/03/2006 17:32

think you're being over-sensitive and its down to the way you read it tbh .. I didn't read any snappiness .. that's the main problem with the printed word .. no emotion

overdraft · 23/03/2006 17:35

True Twiglet. Will hopefully get it soon fingers crossed.Looked at her feedback and it isn't the first time. Can't wait to get it though. won't leave bad feedback unless i don't get it

OP posts:
rickman · 23/03/2006 17:36

I don't think it's that bad to be honest. I had some auctions finish on Sunday night and I still haven't got around to posting them. I have emailed all my buyers though and explained that my kids are ill and one had to go to hospital, if I get a neg from any of them, I will be mighty p1ssed off. She's been ill, give her a break.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2006 17:36

and she said "Sorry for any
inconvenience". Think you're being harsh.

overdraft · 23/03/2006 17:39

I am not giving her negetive feedback. asked how long is reasonable to wait without parcel or contact.

OP posts:
Socci · 23/03/2006 17:41

I don't think the email is rude tbh (and I am an over sensitive type!) but I do think that when you've paid for something using pay pal then it is reasonable to expect the item to be posted within a week -- after all they have your money. I would give a week and then if it arrives later than that give negative (or at least neutral) feedback.

crunchie · 23/03/2006 17:43

Personally I think yuou are being a bit premature, just supposeing she had sent it a couple of days after payment, you wouldn't have recieved it yet. I can see your irritation by the tone of the email, but give the woman a break, she has been sick. OK she culd have said there is a delay in posting, but IMHO up to a week before posting is acceptable.

I certainly wouldn't neg her, I would still give positive feedback, and simply say 'nnice item, shame it took so long to arrive' BUT make sure you do this AFTER she has given you feedback

Piffle · 23/03/2006 17:47

I get this a lot, sometimes dd gets sick and I do not get to psot thigs as quick as I would like. I always try and email folks to let them know, full of apologies
If they email me first I always say sorry sorry sorry this is because............
I think she should have emailed you but shes been ill
Cut her some slack.... I do not think her reply is that out of order tbh

FrannyandZooey · 23/03/2006 17:52

The seller has 28 days to get the item to you, by eBay rules. I agree she should have been in touch, eBat state seller and buyer should contact each other within 3 days, but if you want something instantly, go to a shop.

overdraft · 23/03/2006 17:54

Thought i was being organised for mothers day.I know not to do it anymore.

misdee · 23/03/2006 17:56

if i need an item in a hurry then iadd a polite note to my payment, something like ' I am purchasing XX for my ddbirthday, which is on such and such a date, is there any chance you coupld send the item so i recieve it in time? many thanks'

overdraft · 23/03/2006 17:58

thsts a good idea Misdee.Someone has done that to me before but i never thought of it.

2 days ago someone bought a book for me for her mum for mothers day
Befreo the auction ended she asked if I coudl post next day 1st class so to get to her in time
So I made a special journey
It does pay to ask if you want something for a certain date, some sellers need to wait until they have downloaded the money from paypal into their bank accounts before posting... this can take 7 working days with some banks.

overdraft · 23/03/2006 18:05

just didn't think, because she said she would post within 3-4 days of payment and 8 days away thought it would be o.k. She has posted other items that were won from her on the same day and she has recieved feedback so this is why i am puzzled. It is a new item by the way .

OP posts:
julienetmum · 23/03/2006 18:11

I think it is unreasonable to expect it that soon. I only post items once a week on a Tuesday (or occasionally Wednesday. I also often send by 2nd class unless otherwise specified.

I have recently been bidding on items that I needed very quickly. I emailed the sellers before bidding to say that if I won the item could they please get it to me straight away and explained why (costumes for a show last weekend). In each case they were happy to oblige but I would have totally understood if someone wasn;t able to get it to me that quickly.

Things happen in people's busy lives. They get asked to work extra, a child falls ill or the weather is awful and it is not worth walking to the post office.

I would say allow 14 days before questioning where the item is.

overdraft · 23/03/2006 18:15

she sent me the invoice to pay for it within ten minutes of auction ending as well.Just a little more comunication and things would be fine

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 23/03/2006 18:53

It's worth dpoing with website purchases as well..if you need the delivery urgently send an email to ask if it can be sent out by such a date (but also bear in mind that unless you pay extra for special or courier delivery then it may be despatched immediately but not delivered quickly )And the nicer you are the better the results are
sorry an aside from the original enquiry

overdraft · 23/03/2006 18:59

Thanks zippitippitoes I will in future
