Bed for a baby, from what age is anywhere near acceptable?

Hello all.
Well i am at the end of my short tether at the minute and it's all from my own doing really.
DD2 has just turned one and we basically have always co-slept from about 10-11-ish when i get summoned and usually go up anyway to read. Problem is, it's getting earlier and earlier and i cannot go to bed at 9pm. I just have too much to do and NEED a few hours to myself.!!!
I was thinking about a bouble bed for her and dd1 (who is 5) but having slept with them both in a Kingsize bed i think they both toss and turn too much.
What i'm now thinmking is a little bed the same as dd1's, right next to dd1's with one of them bolster things so the little one couldn't slip down under covers and a safety bar on the other side. DP said we'll also get a camera monitor so we can see her at all times and it would be so much easier to get her to sleep by lying next to her then creeping out.
she seems to HATE her xot and as soon as her toes touch the side she's awake.

If you've got this far, bless you!
So is 13 months just ridiculously young?

If i don't reply it's cause she's restless again and i'm ironing but i will be back+
Also i'm due another one in Aug-Sep so i really could do with sorting it out!

my friend's just put her 13 month old in a bottom bunk with a guard & it's working well.

myturn · 12/03/2006 20:42

Ours were all in their own room by 6mths. They were out of cots by the time they were one. They were extremely restless sleepers and slept better in a bed and in their own rooms. We slept much better too!

Angeliz · 12/03/2006 20:47

Oh excellent! Thanks you two!
Did you use blankets still myturn and a bolster of any sort ?

Ds was in his own room at a year and a bed at just under 14 months. Wall at one side, headboard at top, wardrobe at foot and bed guard on the free side. We too co-slept before that, from whenever he first woke after I'd gone to bed. If he woke before I went to bed, he went back in his cot. I found he slept much better when in a bed full time iyswim.

waterfalls · 12/03/2006 20:51

What about one of those single beds, where a second bed pulls out from underneath?? will try to find a link.

Angeliz · 12/03/2006 20:52

Oh great thanks posey.
I was a bit worried i was being far too opmtimistic thinking she could have a bed at 13 months.

waterfalls, that's actually a great idea as when dp is away i like to sleep with the girls so will need an alternative to that too. At the minute i carry dd1 in to our room. Ridiculous i know but i cannot sleep with the kids in another room!
I was thinking of getting a chair that opens to a bed but that's even better really.

Yes, we used blankets. When they were very young I used pillows down the side of the bed along with a safety guard. Didnt have any problems atall. We had terrible trouble with our first as she was a very light sleeper and would wake instantly if we turned over in our bed as well as waking if she so much as touched the sides of her cot. It was sheer desperation that caused us to put her into her own room and a bed when she was young. Best thing we ever did however, which was why we did the same with the other three girls.

\here{http://www.kays.com/AgNet/product.aspx?brand=Kays&cat_id=15187&zone_id=0&prod_id=257120&fh_secondid=257120&fh_view_size=11&fh_start_index=22&fh_eds=%3f&fh_usertype=kaysc2&fh_location=%2f%2fagency%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b15003%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b15042%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b15187%7d&fh_refview=lister\here} it goes to full height too, for when she is a little older. Might be too expensive though for a temporary (sp?) measureSmile

bugger

Ds has a bed like waterfalls has linked to. It was from Argos. When my parents stay, they have our room and me and dh kip in with ds on the 2 beds pushed together.

Angeliz · 13/03/2006 09:25

The only thing with that is, i want a bed the same height as dd1's bed so they can be together and that bed looks quite high.
DD1 ran in at 3 last night after a nightmare, woke up dd2 and dd2 tossed and turned till 5 ish when i got up practically in tears of desperation!
I'm o.k after an hour but at the time it's tortureSad

Found the same bed as dd'2 simple one from Mothercae but they ALL say from 24 months.

I guess they have to say that anyway.

maybe not... but it doesn't have an age on it!

starlover · 13/03/2006 20:21

actually i LOVE \link{http://www.johnlewis.com/Nursery/Nursery+Furniture/Cots+and+Junior+Beds/Junior+Beds/230178157/Product.aspx\this one}

and more to keep her in... i can't see why a baby couldn't sleep in it

Angeliz · 13/03/2006 20:23

Grin that was quick stralover you thread hopperGrin
We'll probably get one just like that but from Mothercare, like \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/ly1751&bklist=icat,5,shop,shokidsbedroom,kidfurniture,furkidsbeds0\this} as it's the same as dd1's and they are going to be pushed together. (with side bars obviously)

Flip · 13/03/2006 20:24

Ds1 was in a bed at nine months and ds2 was in a bed from eleven months.

Ds1 is now in a tall bed with the rail around and ds2 has the cot side on his bed.

Angeliz · 13/03/2006 20:26

Tipex i couldn't really take away dd1's bed as it wouldn't seem fairSad and it's all princessy and she has just got the 4 poster added Princess bit. Why do you think it's risky?
