There were 7 altogether between 1 + 5.

blondie82 · 10/03/2006 11:18

We had a tea party for family and some close friends when DD was 1. It was lovely and Dd had a great time being centre of everyone's attention.

blondie82 · 10/03/2006 11:20

Yeah, thats the sort of thing i was thinking about doing hulababy.
did you send out invitations and things? or is that going a bit too far?!lol

That's not thempint, she'll enjoy it at the time!

Angeliz · 10/03/2006 11:22

That's not the point sorry.
She won't remember anything really but i'm sure she enjoys fun.

Hulababy · 10/03/2006 11:23

We onyl sent out one invite - and that was to the little boy of our frieds, who we'd invited. We did get First Birthday table are, banner, etc. and made it a proper event. that wa smore for us to celebrate DD's birthday than her though, athough she does llike to see the photos now she is older. DD enjoyed it at the time, even if she can't remember the day itself now.

We had one there, were only a couple of other children but it was the first time both sides of my famiy were together so it was more just a family party although the adults did strangly enjoy jelly and ice cream and playing pass the parcel. Dd though was sick and slept through it but it wasa really good day.

blondie82 · 10/03/2006 11:32

got 3 months to go yet, but with things like that you have to get organised!!
Hulababy, where did you get the banners from? i honestly havent seen them before...
1980cat, i think i would like the jelly and ice cream more too! :o

No

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2006 11:40

I think it's odd not to do it myself Shock

You don't just do things because they'll remember them afterwards, well I don't at least. I'll remember it, anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 10/03/2006 11:41

Oh the odd thing was though that not many people brought a present! What was that about? I mean I didn't do it just to get presents, and don't care if they chose not to buy one - he didn't need them - but must admit I thought it odd. I suppose they thought he would not know any different so they didn't need to bother!

No, instead dh took a day off work and we took ds to a music class, had cake with his little friends there. We then went to a lovely Italian restaurant for lunch, which was empty and the staff made a fuss of him and even made him a little cake -we went to the zoo after. It was the best part I've ever been too. :)

Kathy1972 · 10/03/2006 11:44

I'm going to have one. For the grownups rather than for her, but I jolly well hope she gets presents!!

Flossam · 10/03/2006 11:45

I had a little party for DS. We had 15 people in total, 4 babies DS included. It was nice but quite costly in the end. We have some nice piccies at least! Grin

My ds had his first birthday party the other week. We took him and a cpl of others to the Wacky Warehouse, it was mainly his cousins and one or 2 other little ones. It was nice because I got to see all my family at once which never happens these days and also my closest friends were there. It was in a family pub so the adults could get food and drink etc. Also meant I had no mess to clear up! We had a lovely day. On his actual birthday he was taken to the zoo which was nice for him(the party was the day before).

canadianmum · 10/03/2006 11:51

i had a little party for my twin boys, just invited my antenatal group which consisted of 5 other one year olds and their mums plus me and dh. We had helium balloons, some music playing, a bubble machine and a few little snacks like raisins and rice cakes plus the birthday cakes.

It was really nice and the boys enjoyed it, they probably won't remember it but I have a very sweet photo of them with their party hats on! :) I didn't do party bags or any of that palaver, just kept it really short and simple.HTH

schneebly · 10/03/2006 11:53

IMO a 1st birthday party is not really for the child although they will enjoy the fuss!It is more a celebration for the family to get together for this milestone and take lots of photos. We had a little tea party for family with sandwiches, cake etc and it was lovely - good memories!

blondie82 · 10/03/2006 11:56

thanks everyone, you've all helped me make up my mind..
im going to give her a birthday party, and will make sure we take lots of photos! :o

ds2 had a massive street party for his first birthday
because it was such a milestone as we were told when he was a day old that we only had a few days with him

I also gave first birthday parties for my other 5 kids but they were just family and close friends.

yackertyyack · 10/03/2006 12:48

We had a sunday lunch party.....had all the family/friends over and I did a roast and then had birthday cake/tea - also had lots of decorations (ebay has some excellent stuff) Kids had games and adults just chatted really - all in all we had a really lovely time.
For his actual birthday DH & I took him to the sealife centre and then out to lunch.
I found it all really emotional.....especially singing 'happy birthday' to MY little boy!! (may also be because I am pregnant again and hormones everywhere!!!)Grin

DH mentioned yesterday that it is England's first game in the World Cup on the afternoon of my dd's birthday, so it looks like she will be having some kind of football theme for her first bday party....

BettySpaghetti · 10/03/2006 13:01

We had a Sunday afternoon party/get-together for DSs 1st. We just invited grandparents and two other sets of friends (whose children ranged in ages 6wks - 9yrs)along.
As it was in June we sat out in the garden while kids played in sandpit and playhouse. We then went indoors for the 6 children to have a teaparty with all the usual food, balloons, candles and cake. The adults had a drink and nibbles. It was a lovely afternoon -DS seemed to cotton on to the fact it was all centred around him too!
