DD has brought me some homework - I have to write about my favourite toy when I was little! So - first q - I had this plastic corrugated pipe thing that you swung around and it made great noises - did anyone else have one and did they have a name? second q - what was your favourite toy?

Does anyone remember those bouncy things that looked like a flying saucer?

You had to put your feet on the flat outer edge, gripping the inner ball with your feet, and bounce?

What were they called?

My fave toys were petite elite typewriter, sindy, also lego.

I loved my Sindy dolls but I used to spend hours playing with "paper dolls" which were pictures I'd cut of the catalogues from the company my dad worked for.I had names for over 300 of them and played for hours and hours Blush

lexiemum · 09/03/2006 21:37

wasn't it called a space hopper? took ages to balance on and looked a bit like saturn - I had a green and orange one

cece · 09/03/2006 21:37

Pippa Dolls - had about 6 of them, used to save up pocket money to buy them!

Had some cowboy type 'cracker' guns. You had a roll of paper with black dots on that would make a loud bang when fired....

galaxy · 09/03/2006 21:43

Not Space hoppers - they were the big blow up things that you sat on and bounced.

galaxy · 09/03/2006 21:44

I had Pippa dolls - they were lovely

lexiemum · 09/03/2006 21:50

galaxy - its not either of these - it was a ball no bigger than a football with a big plastic ring around it - only stood about 10ins off the floor and you stood on it and then jumped up and down trying to keep your balance

edodgy · 09/03/2006 21:54

I Loved the old sindy now that was a real woman!
Also my little pony the bog standard ones like blossom and twinkle none of the rainbow b*ox. Space hopper although I had a Kermit the frog one not the orange one. A lo lo ball those things that had a ball in the middle and a circular ege that you stood on balanced and jumped.

I may buy one again surely a fun way to exercise.

misty · 09/03/2006 22:26

You can listen to the stylophone \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/years/1970/toys.shtml\here}

I've just remembered I had one of these too!

Also, I remember getting some sort of freebie 'record player' when I was young - basically a piece of card with a very thin & floppy 'record' on, and the stylus was something you stuck your finger in and then dragged over the top of the record to play the music.

Nobody I have asked over the years has ever known what I was talking about so it's a long shot...... anyone???!!!!

finn2 · 09/03/2006 22:31

Did anyone have an Amanda Jane doll that came in baby or toddler form? I think Baby Amanda Jane came in a swing and had nappies with press studs

finn2 · 09/03/2006 22:32

We are talking 1975-7 here if that helps!!!!

Fauve · 09/03/2006 22:35

Tamum, I've seriously considered getting a Julep horse and letting dd help me play with it. I still want one. I would get a black one - what colour do you want?

zippitippitoes · 09/03/2006 22:40

wha t are the discs you jump on at the edge of the sea?

edodgy · 09/03/2006 22:51

do you mean boogie boards?

Davros · 09/03/2006 23:01

I had a pet stick called Knobbly who had been lovingly stripped of his bark and smoothed. Some git boy down the road threw him over a wall into a building site. I've never got over it.

tamum · 09/03/2006 23:02

I'd like a chestnut one thanks, Fauve. Can I come round and play with yours when you get it?

Fauve · 09/03/2006 23:06

Chestnut! Wow! Yes, we could have a horse show, with show jumping, rosettes, and everything.

tamum · 09/03/2006 23:08

And stables to put them to bed in? And a tack room? Can we, can we :)
