How many at your house for Christmas?

handlemecarefully · 10/12/2003 12:00

I've got:
Me
dd
dh
my bump (feel he ought to be included)
mum
dad
SIL (recently divorced so no accompanying BIL)
MIL
FIL

Luckily dh is doing the Christmas dinner. I actually don't mind too much about being beseiged by relatives, since dd will be centre of attention all day (and won't need the usual intensive one to one input from me to stop her from getting bored)

Me, DP, DD, Sister and Nephew - have also invited some friends who don't have any family near - but await replies....

I love Xmas and have my sister over every year since she split with her hubby (this will be 4th) but she does absolutley nothing to help.....Anyone else have the same problem?

eidsvold · 10/12/2003 19:58

three - dh dd and me going to mother in laws the weekend after christmas and boxing day ... very quiet for our last christmas living in England.

Slinky · 10/12/2003 20:16

Christmas Day - we always stay at home (apart from visiting neighbours for drinks in the morning) it's just us - so me, DH, DD1 & 2, and DS1 for lunch. Then mum and partner around afternoon for the rest of day.

Boxing Day - will be me, DH, DD1&2, DS1, my dad, stepmum, brother and girlfriend, stepsister and boyfriend.

we had everyone here for Christmas dinner last year and it was great , this year i hope it will be:
Me and dp and dd (2.
Sis and BIL and her two boys (2.7 and 1.6)
other sis and boyfriend,
my mam and dad

but my sis with kids has told me that her hubby doesn't want to come as he's shy and doesn't like eating, doesn't know what to say..( i have known him for about 5 years and lived with them at one point!). I think he's being a selfish git and it should be about the kids for a few hours that day, not him! When i say my dp is gonna do all the driving though i think he might change his mind as i'm sure him drinking is a part of it!...sigh

Christmas day it is just me, Dh and 20mo DD. We have chosen to always spent Christmas Day on our own as a family (used to be as a couple) - quietly enjoying our pressies, playing, TV, food and drink.

On Boxing Day we have family round for buffet type tea all afternoon

  • us 3
  • my parents
  • my brother
  • my sister and her boyfriend
  • Dh's parents
  • Dh's grandparents

Normally there is DH's brother and girlfreind too but they are in OZ with her family this year.

I'll have
Me
DH
DD
MIL
BIL

I don't really want MIL or BIL to come to us, you might think that is selfish of me, but every year We have MIL and every year she gets drunk and we have to wait ages for a taxi to send her home in plus this year because BIL has broken up with his girlfriend we're getting him too. And seeing as I just got rid of BIL, who has been living with us for the past 3 months due to a shattered kneecap, I really don't want to be seeing him in my house again any time soon. Still it's only one day and hopefully they won't stay to late into the night, fingers crossed anyway.

whitewater · 10/12/2003 23:39

Just the three of us- me, dh and dd. We never have turkey, and this year have (well dh has) opted for steak and kidney pie, with trimmings of course! I do love it just being the three of us, especially the build up, ie, 23rd and Christmas Eve, but have to admit by the end of Christmas day, am missing wider family and friends. We are then down to a friend's in Kent for boxing day, and up north for family get together on 27th.

fisil · 11/12/2003 20:48

magnum · 13/12/2003 08:40

NONE.... HURRAHH

we're going away this year for the first time in ages. we usually host for most of the family and it costs a bomb. It's so nice not to worry about food shopping. I've been able to spend more on prezzies!

lilibet · 13/12/2003 08:55

I want family!!
but as an only child of two only children, my family is a bit thin on the ground, would love to be able to write a list like some of the ones below.
I have, no sisters, brothers, anuties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, nothing! Just my mum!!
So on christmas day there will be, me, dp, 3 children, my Mum and a friends family of 4 and dd's best mate. We started sharing Christmas together 3 years ago as they had no one to share Christmas with either. It works very well and we have a fantastic time.

jac34 · 13/12/2003 09:37

We usually have a house full(11 last year) DH does most of the cooking and I help, but this year we have had building work thats overrun (builders are still here, hope to have finished by Wednesday)!!!!
So we've put everyone off and we're going round my Mum's for the day.
I usually love having loads of people round, but this year just can't be arsed !!!!

We're having a lovely peaceful Christmas Day this year. The boys (stepsons) are with us on Christmas morning until 12ish when they go their Mothers house, so we're having a lovely big Christmas brekkie for the 5 of us (DH, me, DD, DS1, DS2). The boys are going to have xmas dinner at their Mums. So it'll just be DH, me and DD (16mo) for dinner.

We've invited my Mum and stepdad but they are having it at home due to the fact that step-D has 2 other daughters (did have 3 but one died earlier this year from liver cancer, aged 25). They (StepD's DD's) want to come over to the big house for a 'Family Christmas', which ultimately excludes my rabble as they live 2hrs away and we have to return the boys at noon . Hey, Ho, that's families for you.

We're then off to Cheshire on Boxing Day (the
5 of us) to spend the day with BIL1, SIL1, and their DS, BIL2, SIL2, and possibly their grown up DD(21) and DS(18). For a lovely family day.

We had xmas day at BIL2s last year and it was great, although DH and I ended up arguing because DD (then 4/5 months) was finding it hard to settle with all the noise from downstairs (12+ 'merry' people carolling etc). We'd been at BIL2s since 11.30am and it was then 9.30pm, I'd spent the previous 2hrs lay on the bed with DD trying to settle her. I said to DH that it wasn't fair on her or me and that I'd like to go home now. DH told me that I was being unfair and that it was 'still early' (for him maybe...). Anyway after a 'heated discussion' we left at around 10.15pm with DH carrying a sizeable grudge, which lasted until lunch on boxing day ! So much for Christmas being the jolly season !
