How many at your house for Christmas?

handlemecarefully · 10/12/2003 12:00

I've got:
Me
dd
dh
my bump (feel he ought to be included)
mum
dad
SIL (recently divorced so no accompanying BIL)
MIL
FIL

Luckily dh is doing the Christmas dinner. I actually don't mind too much about being beseiged by relatives, since dd will be centre of attention all day (and won't need the usual intensive one to one input from me to stop her from getting bored)

M2T · 10/12/2003 12:30

Well, thankfully I have managed to get out of being invited anywhere for lunch.

It'll be Me, DH, DS and the foetus.

Then off to my Mums after lunch (4pm ish) to relax and eat trifle. Had I not just found out about the foetus I probably would've gotten bladdered with my Mum! Oh well.... I should feel fab on Boxing Day though..... and New Years Day!

D'you know what, I am really looking forward to my Hang Over free festive period!

My little 'party' looks quite modest now

Just me, dh, mil, fil and 2 dd's. I am cooking a goose - never done it before so that should be fun!

handlemecarefully · 10/12/2003 12:49

'M2T&future?'

Meant to say - congratulations on newly discovering that you are pregnant!

dadslib, thanks for advice - I am going to try a recipe from Hugh Fearnly Whittingstall's book which does all kinds of fancy things with it, takes three days of preperation but very little to do on the actual day itself, could be a recipe for disaster but then again could be a triumph, who knows

Helsbels · 10/12/2003 13:09

As my dad always says 'no-one is there to see you fail!' as long as you do your best it doesn't really matter what it tastes like - you'll all have a good laugh if it goes wrong - maybe not straight away but at some stage!! I've cooked goose before and it was fine - just v fatty as dl says. Well done for daring to try something a bit different. PS goose is delicious!!

Thanks helsbels, I love to get stuck in to something new (just as long as I don't end up bursting into tears and making poor dh finish it for me - it has been known to happen ).

motherinferior · 10/12/2003 13:18

None at our place, going to dp's aunt's, so various rellies the very thought of whom are making me want to go and have little lie down with head under the duvet till January

aloha · 10/12/2003 13:24

Me, dh, ds and my mum at our house. Neighbours coming over in the morning for a bit of champagne. Really looking forward to it, esp as mum will entertain ds all day!

handlemecarefully · 10/12/2003 13:26

Aloha,

that's precisely what I am looking forward to - mum entertaining dd all day. A genuine rest for moi!

We always have too many people around for Christmas to have DS entertained. I have to scurry around making sure all presents have been opened and try to prevent DS from being too overwhelmed. Problem with being only child in extended family. Still I am doing my best to take the pressure off him for next year.

suedonim · 10/12/2003 15:07

Me, dh, ds1 and his dw, ds2, dd1 and dd2. Also the dog and two cats - very important family members cos I spend all day fending them off the turkey!!

We do the cooking between us and I then snooze on the sofa while they all clear up. But it seems a lifetime away atm as the kitchen installers are coming tomorrow and I'm desperately trying to empty all my cupboards (shouldn't really be here on MN at all, tsk tsk!).

handlemecarefully · 10/12/2003 15:30

A life time away Suedonim? - you've got 15 days! Good luck!!

suedonim · 10/12/2003 15:55

Omg, HMC!!!! 15 days - are you sure?? It's really scary to see it written down in back and white like that. I really am going now.......

kayleigh · 10/12/2003 15:56

It'll be just the cat at our place!

We go to some friends every year. There will be about 16 of us including my Mum who is coming with us. Always have a great day. And all I have to prepare for the event is a rather large Pass the Parcel.

dsw · 10/12/2003 16:00

Northener - that sounds interesting - will everyone get on?
