Just want some sympathy as I'm feeling incredibly p'd off. The prat swerved into my lane and walloped the side of my car when I was on the way home from work (at about 1am) luckily a police car came past and dealt with it all, as he kept insisting he wanted to give me cash and bypass the insurance companies (hmm wonder why>)

I'm still trying warm up from being stuck on my own in the car waiting for the rescue people (lone woman priority my arse)

I've now been up 21 hrs and I'm tired (calming down and having a hot chocolate before bed, although kids will be up a few hours so is it worth it?)

It's DS1's 8th birthday today and we were going to go out for the day, well that's bolloxed.

I only picked the car up from the garage yesterday after forking out £450 on new brakes for the MOT

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggghhhhhhhh

Thank you, feel better now

MASSES OF SYMPATHY to you, drink drivers f* up lives, one hit me in 1986,never forget it,but at least i am here to tell the tale!!!!

Look i know you are totally knackered but do not let this arsehole ruin ds1s 8th birthday.

Shout and Stomp and tell everyone about the accident.Even now my story comes out 20 years down the line.

Keep well and enjoy today!

suzywong · 16/02/2006 05:14

Poor you

I would have been ropable, as they say over here.

It's just so shitty isnt it when you have to make a claim and all that bollox and it wasn't your fault. Hope you have a good day with ds1 anyway.

BudaBabe · 16/02/2006 05:46

Poor you. Glad you are not hurt. Just try to enjoy your day. Early night tonight.

Hope the police lock him up and throw away the key - but they won't of course.

Gingerbear · 16/02/2006 06:05

Poor you. Thank god you weren't hurt. Get some rest, then try and write down all the details for the insurance people - or did the police do a report?

I'd be pissed off too. Can't you get a temporary hire car through your insurance?

leogaela · 16/02/2006 08:02

don't you mean get a temporary hire car through HIS insurance.

HAppy birthday to DS1 !

serenity · 16/02/2006 10:22

Thanks, slightly calmer now

Been through my insurance already, and I'll get a courtesy car when the garage comes to pick mine up. I'm now trying to find which police station the guy went to. I'm having a big panic that I got the wrong end of the stick - do they breathalise on the spot? I didn't see them do it, as I was chatting to the other officer but one minute he was talking to them, the next he was in handcuffs and being put in their car. What would happen if he was clear when they tested him at the police station?

(Oh god he just rang me to talk about not going through the insurance again - is he mad??? I refused to discuss it.)

As an aside I should be working again tonight (8.30 til 12.30) do you think it will pulling a fast one to not go in? I'll be knackered and there's no guarantee that I'll have a car either (so hour trip by PT there and expensive cab back)

Sorry rambling, but trying to get this sorted in my head!

Take a night off - you absolutely need it. A woman I work with had an accident - like you, she was shaken but not hurt as such and she (rightly) took 2 days off.

notasheep · 16/02/2006 10:26

I would do a sicky and not feel guilty

hunkermunker · 16/02/2006 10:27

Oh, you poor thing - how vile! Happy birthday to your DS1 - hope you still manage to have a fun day with him.

hunkermunker · 16/02/2006 10:28

Definitely take the night off - you need to sleep and you're in shock (whether you think you are or not).

kittyfish · 16/02/2006 10:28

He will have a bloodtest at the cop shop I should think. I really hope he has insurance if he keeps wanting to not use the insurance companies. Might be worth a call to citizens advice incase you should be recording phone calls etc. (though I am sure you won't have to)

serenity · 16/02/2006 10:39

He has insurance - the police gave me all his details last night (it's quite scary what they can pull up in their cars) Luckily he's insured with a sister company of my insurance company so they've been in contact already.

Police have also confirmed that he was arrested for a positive breath test (yay!)

I think I've covered everything now, so I can lose the paranoid feeling that I've missed something, and they'll turn round and tell me to get lost!

So sorry to hear this serenity, but that it is looking better in the sense of getting your insurance sorted and a courtesy car.
A good friend of mine was left fighting for her life after being hit by someone still pissed in the morning rush-hour - it took her two years to be walking comfortably unaided
And a much-loved colleague in a different library was killed late last year by someone wasted at 11.30pm.
I am just glad you are alive and well to enjoy your son's birthday. Have a lovely day and don't go in to work tonight.

kittyfish · 16/02/2006 10:48

Drunk drivers are the pits and a year minimum ban is not really enough.

Piffle · 16/02/2006 11:06

Serentity thank god you're alright. The police and insurance will take care of itself to a certain extent
You take care of yourself, do not dare got to work, for one thing shock! For one thing tiredness.
Get some rest if possible.
Once again thankful you were not hurt, the guy is an arse, if he rings again ask him to speak to your insurance company or lawyer. that shoudl shut him up. Or ask the police to ask him to stop calling you.
If he is worried about his no claims then he is a total twat as DUI is much worse for your insurance than a crash.
Has he even apologised or anything
GRRRR and hugs for you xx

mummyhill · 16/02/2006 11:09

Drunk drivers should get a permanent ban. Driving whilst disqualified should get a much harshe scentence and fine too imo. Glad you are OK serenity hope they sort your car out quickly.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 16/02/2006 11:17

Anyone who drinks and drives IMO should not be allowed back behind a wheel.
NO excuses!

Hope you are feeling better today x

doormat · 16/02/2006 11:23

serenity how awful for you
glad you are ok

IMO drunk drivers should be banned for life.

motherinferior · 16/02/2006 11:36

Sweetie, ring in sick. And don't talk to the bloke.

Bugsy2 · 16/02/2006 11:46

Just seen this. What a nightmare Serenity, you poor thing. Glad you are all in one piece but what a horrible shock. Take it easy on yourself & don't go to work if you still feel shocked & shakey - give your body a rest.

merrymum · 16/02/2006 12:20

glad you are ok. i agree drink drivers should NEVER be aloud to drive again my DH friend has been banned for this only to get his licence back...then surprise surprise do it again - put his car in the ditch on a straight bit of road then had the gall to ask my DH to go there and take the blame he should never have been aloud to drive again in the first place imo. if this guy rings again dont talk to him but keep a note of his calls just in case. happy birthday to your DS hope you have a nice day. again glad you are ok xx

merrymum · 16/02/2006 12:22

also do ring in sick and tell them its due to the car accident you can claim for loss of earnings from his insurance.

Blu · 16/02/2006 13:07

Serenity, Im SO sorry to hear this, how very horrible for you.
I don't like the sound of him ringing you up - did you give him your number?
If you DO go to work and have to get a cab, claim it on his insurance...but see how you feel, cos you won't get any sleep today, will you?
Poor you. Damn him - he will get banned, anyway.

serenity · 16/02/2006 13:27

I didn't give him any details, the police intervened before we got to that stage, but (stupidly) I forgot to take my phone with me, so I used his phone to call DH at home.

I rang work and told them I wasn't coming in, feel a bit guilty as I'm not hurt or anything, but I really can't face it. I'm sure they can manage without me!

The kids are watching too much TV and playing far too much PS2, but never mind. I've promised DS1 that he can help me make and decorate his birthday cake later, so we'll do at least one constructive thing today
