Did Anyone else see this last night.
I really couldn't warm to the daughter of the church goers. She had a really bad attitude and thought she was so superior to the other family.

I dont think many people would have understod though that refusing the food was SUCH an insult- it made me feel sick (and I am not judgemental!)

I think that they would understand it was an insult to refuse the food. Haven't we all grown up with our Mother's words ringing in our ears, 'Little children in are starving, eat up your food and be greatful'

Queenie · 28/11/2003 17:09

I even tell that to my dd now who is 3 yo -"there are little children in poor countries who haven't got any food today ... so try and eat up". I think after last night's programme they will feel very ashamed about that part. I was brought up to clear my plate when visiting other people's homes regardless of what was on them. I had a tough mother!!

Did we share the same Mum??? Actually food outside our house was almost always better than food at home Bless her, Mum was a dreadful cook!

I agree with Queenie that they should have let them stay in a hotel & visit the village. I also thought it was very unchristian of those church people not to let the others go to the ceremony, AND that they seemed to be lording it a bit with the king ceremony.

The girl was so up herself!! She said they joined in with the others, but she & her mother refused to go on anything at the water park in Cancun because they didn't like to lose control so what's the difference? I thought her parents could have taught her a bit of humility

As the wrinklies said, it was hardly a holiday, which I thought was the whole point of the programme?

CD, in answer to your question, Ghana definitely.

I also thought that the Christian family were on a bit of an ego trip and a bit patronising in Ghana, but I asked a Ghanaian colleague and she said that no-one in Ghana would think that, they take missionary & charity work very seriously. My colleague also mentioned that whenever she visits her village she would stay in a hotel and probably not eat the food!

Oh, and you know that bit in The Others where she sees her daughter in the first communion outfit but it turns out to be the old woman? That's what the Gran reminded me of.
