Okay, another really contentious topic: Boys' Haircuts

Any one else have problems getting decent haircuts for their boys?

I'm not a big fan of the full crop, myself, still less of the Number 1 all over look. All the old-fashioned barbers round here only seem to do one haircut, regardless of what you ask for, generally a fairly brutal short back and sides.

And if you go to a fancy kids' hairdressers, they trim a tiny bit off the bottom, generally not straight, and charge you a tenner for the privilege. Two weeks later it then needs doing again. I've taken to cutting it myself, which looks okay but not fantastic. But at least I can cut it wonky for free.

What do y'all do about this? Ds is 6, and I'm aiming for reasonably short at the sides and back, but longer on top (think pageboy). Any shorter on top and it sticks up like a bogbrush.

We all used to go to the same hairdresser and DS would get his done as well but then he emigrated to Australia

So now I do all of us {I am growing mine so just do my fringe}

DH is nearly bald on top so use clippers on him and scissors to shape it

DS I use scissors and I make a pretty good job of it - even if I do say so myself

We bought some proper hairdressing scissors and some thinning scissors to do his fringe

He has very thick hair

I have taught myself how to put the hair between my fingers and cut but I need another pair of hands to hold the comb and scissors

I cut dh and ds's hair with my trusty clippers (although I use scissors on the top bit). Had an awful accident once, though, when I wasn't paying attention and hadn't clicked the no 5 comb onto the clippers properly when starting my dh's hair. I wasn't really looking, either, and the comb fell off and I literally shaved a huge swathe of the back of his head before I realised.
He was so mad and I had to give him a haircut like a US marine to try to make the baldy bit blend in. It took him quite a while to trust me again!

DH took the DSs to his barbers on Saturday and they are skinheads . Well, in my eyes, anyway - I prefer a floppy Fotherington-Thomas sort of look.

DS1 was white blond and now he has some kind of duckling fluff. DS2 is now a little bullet-head.
