i sleep with the landing light on and the bedroom door wide open.
dh hates it too
what do you do?

OP posts:
hana · 06/02/2006 19:03

has to be pitch black
same with the dds as well
dh could have blazing florescent lights and still sleep well!

Jasnem · 06/02/2006 19:03

I do the same, and hate it, but DP insists!
He would have the bedroom light on all night if I'd let him!

munz · 06/02/2006 19:04

has to be pitch black and silent as well. and DH either has to spoons/I have to be pressed up against him back 2 back - can't sleep with nothing against my back! lol.

DH likes to watch tv - it's annoying!

doormat · 06/02/2006 19:05

sleep in pitch black here
but leave bedroom door open (except for nooks)so I can hear the kids
habit find hard to break

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2006 19:05

There was a period in my life when I would only sleep with the bedroom light on

Now I am addicted to my blackout. We started it in the summer to stop ds from waking up at 5 am, but it helps us all sleep so much better.

I also have a thing about which cup I will drink from at which time of day, the shape sandwiches are cut into, etc etc. To be honest, that is the tip of the iceberg as far as my oddness goes but is as much as I'm prepared to divulge at this point.

littlemissbossy · 06/02/2006 19:05

How old are you? 5?!

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2006 19:06

Ok I thought we were discussing oddnesses in general please ignore my cup / sandwich thing

Crystaltips · 06/02/2006 19:06

DH has to sleep in pitch black .... it's taken me 22 years to get used to it !!

When he is away I sleep with the landing light on and the door open

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2006 19:07

littlemissbossy, that comment looks like it really should have been for me but how did you type it in 7 secs complete with 2 emoticons and everything??

hunkermunker · 06/02/2006 19:07

Has to be dark here when I sleep, but I'm (shh) scared of the dark, so getting out of bed needs a light on in case "they" get me. I know, I know...

FAZ, think I could probably equal your oddness...

Serendippity · 06/02/2006 19:10

I would do the same but dp won't let me! we still sleep with the bedroom door open but he won't allow the landing light on- as a compromize he bought a night light bulb and put then in it has 2 settings bright and night light i love it!

festiveface · 06/02/2006 19:13

nightlight bulb? that sounds like a good solution where do i get one?

OP posts:
Jasnem · 06/02/2006 19:13

The closest I've ever got to a compromise is when i moaned so much, he gave me an eye mask to wear!

Do you know that scene in Joe Orton's 'What the Butler Saw' when he is playing for time and says 'Could you get me another glass? This one is quite the wrong shape' ?

That's me, that is.

Serendippity · 06/02/2006 19:47

We got it from Tesco i believe.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2006 19:51

FaZ, you sound like Monica from Friends. Or something.

We have it as dark as possible at night. I think we will get proper blackout blinds for our room, in time.

It's interesting, though, DH always notices lights at night, to the extent that he puts things in front of the numbers on his bedside clock. I always notice noise, and am forever being irritated by small noises when I'm trying to sleep.

QE2 · 06/02/2006 20:04

Have to have complete darkness, door open about 6 inches so I can hear if the kids cry.

We have sliding mirrored wardrobe doors and they have to be closed just so otherwise it bugs me. Clock has to face me at just the right angle too.

Can I join the odd clique?

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2006 21:15

Do I, NQC? Is that good? I am guessing, erm, not.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2006 21:41

Hmm, it's not entirely good, but not horrible. She's freaky in a quirky funny way. It is a sitcom. She lives to clean, and is fussy about lots of strange things.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2006 21:42

I don't think you're actually like her, I'm just not very used to these sorts of ... quirkinesses? And so a fictional character is my only frame of reference.

hunkermunker · 06/02/2006 21:43

DH snurks to himself at Monica - FaZ and Pruni, think we're probably fairly similar with weirderies

(Pruni, I actually winced when I read of wooden spoon being used to serve things up ).

Troutpout · 06/02/2006 21:44

Have to have pitch darkness, all drawers and cupboards shut...and feet must be uncovered

Hulababy · 06/02/2006 21:44

Since we were burgled (we weren't in at time) back in 1999, I have always slept with the landing light on and the bedroom slightly ajar. i use DD as an excuse now as she also doesn't like to sleep in the pitch black (probably as not used to it after sleeping in our room so long).

We used to have the landing light on at home when children too.
