Would your ds wear pink?

I'm just wondering because at the moment Next is full of pink tops for boys. I have three boys (6,10 and 12) and none of them would countenance the idea of wearing pink.
So have Next made a monumental mistake or are my boys sartorially challenged?
By the way I don't think there's anything wrong with boys wearing pink (I quite like it) I just can't imagine any boy being brave enough to do so.

As babies, my dds have been mistaken for boys several times when wearing head-to-toe pink. So there must be a lot of boys out there who do wear pink! I've never met any though.

I once bought dd1 some jeans from the Next catalogue. Most of their girls' jeans are covered in embroidered flowers/fairies but I chose some plain ones (or so I thought), because I thought i could reuse them if I had a boy in future. When the jeans arrived, they had pink stitching and a pink label.

i dont see anything wrong with pink on a boy, went into next earlier and they were selling pink floral shirts for a boy which i thought were a bit OTT, but dont mind a rugby style shirt. i dress my ds in red and this woman had a go at me once, told me he looked like a girl and that i should dress him in blue. he was wearing jeans and a red top FFS!

longwaytogo · 07/02/2006 19:58

Have had this conversation today with a friend. One of the little boys at playgroup turned up with a next pink tank top on today we then went to next and looked at all the pink stuff most of it was definatly ott for my liking but then i've had 14 years of girls and pink, so now I have a boy I am not about to dress him in pink. Might relent if I see something I really like but I doubt it

I love men in pink but DP is unreconstructed and won't hear of it - and he has also made a face when I suggested it for DS! I saw lovely boys' pink top in Gap today actually. I will get pink for DS if he wants it though, as he gets older.

freshstart · 07/02/2006 22:18

I like boys and men in pink

Its DS favourite colour. He eats off a pink plate at every meal time bless him

gromithell · 07/02/2006 22:22

My boy is only 4 months old and if I don't put him in blue he always gets called 'she'! But maybe when he's older I would put him in pink, the tops in next are lovely and after all his daddy wears pink sometimes if its trendy

My ds is going through a pink phase. He keeps saying that he wants a pink birthday cake for his upcoming 3rd birthday. My sister asked him today what he wanted for his birthday and he said, a big pink cake! A few weeks ago he came home saying Pink is for girls and now he has started saying Pink is for boys!!!! Maybe pink IS the new blue!

wordgirl · 07/02/2006 22:31

Ok, so in answer to my question we've got quite a few babies(who don't have much say in the matter!), younger boys, teenagers and men all happy to wear pink.
But what about say 7-10 year-old boys? I still can't see them going for it. So go on - prove me wrong

When ds was about 3 he had such wide feet I could only find a bright pink pair of doodles to fit him. He loved them, but I remember taking him to the park once and him getting the p ripped out of him by a couple of 6 or 7 year olds (whose parents were nowhere to be seen). I'll never forgert the look of hurt and total incomprehension on his face . I'd really think twice about dressing a boy in pink (however nice it looks). Mind you, I haven't seen the Next tops. Maybe pink is cooler now...

Loochyloo · 08/02/2006 12:58

I live in Italy and have never seen so many men wearing pink in my life. Yesterday popped next door and the husband was wearing a bright pink Pringle type jumper with yellow squares on it. Act it sounds gross but he looked quite nice!

elliott · 08/02/2006 13:02

The Next tops are quite clearly boys clothes. And there aren't actually that many of them. I didn't really like them enough to consider buying though - too many motifs and words across them!

elliott · 08/02/2006 13:03

But I had to go back to the Directory to look - I hadn't noticed before this thread!

BudaBabe · 08/02/2006 13:07

My 4.5 yr old would totally refuse - pink or purple.

He already doen't like some of the stuff I buy him! Says "Mummy you just buy what YOU like so I don't have to wear it if I don't like it".

Have a friend with 2 boys ahd she buys some girls tops for them. Not pink but she did get a really nice polo shirt for her DS in a dark mulberry colour. He wore it and looked great. He's now fussy too though!

knickerbockerglory · 09/02/2006 10:53

DS (2yrs) looks fab in pink. He also likes his older sister's fairy outfits. Bad Mummy has not got around to buying boys' dressing up clothes. He looks like a rugby player in a tutu and carries on hammering / drilling / planing regardless of how sparkly the dress is. Haven't got a problem with it - obviously neither does he (although grandpa has raised his eyebrows). However I restrict his dressing up purely to the homestead!

Italian and Spanish men wear pink magnificently and think it heightens their masculinity - personally I'm sick of khaki, burnt orange, beige (YUCK!) on little boys, although blue is always a winner. Guess it also depends if Mum likes pink too???? Besides - I have some great hand-me-down (from DD) deep pink teeshirts that I'm reluctant to dye blue!

KBear · 09/02/2006 11:15

DS (4) wants to be the pink power ranger.

I say "of course you can darling" but mostly to annoy DH who says "the blue one is better"!

MINIMAX · 09/02/2006 11:28

No pink on my boys I'm afraid - (2½ and 5½).

Funny, I asked the same question on my msn group a while back after seeing the new Next catalogue! lol

DH wears pink alot - we were both in ivory, gold and rose pink for our wedding (granted the pink on himn was his tie) but he has several pink tops.
I'd buy pink things for DS, I wish he was old enough for the next tops although I may go and stock up for future years! Its so difficult finding clothes for boy babies that are colours other than blue or sludge!

Easy · 09/02/2006 11:47

I've got to go to next then. I would love to get pink tops for ds, and I don't think it would be a problem for him (he's 6).

I persuaded dh to wear pink shirts and stuff when we got together, and it really suits him. Last year I bought him 2 bright pink polo shirts for his holiday wardrobe.

lucyhoneybee · 10/02/2006 23:45

Yes! I love the new Next stuff and also Peacocks have great similar stuff but dh was horrified!

cyan · 10/02/2006 23:49

just bought ds 2 pink tops from next for his 1st bday next week!!! love it

JanH · 10/02/2006 23:52

DS2 is 12 and currently owns 4 pink polo shirts and they are all his favourites. I think it must be cool atm.

Soapsy · 12/02/2006 19:12

Don't post here often, but did you know that it was only early in the 20th C that pink = girl, and blue = boy. Prior to that it was the other way round as pink was thought to be a strong colour, with blue being delicate and feminine.

I'll happily dress my little boy in pink, and its my fave colour on my DH.
