Would your ds wear pink?

I'm just wondering because at the moment Next is full of pink tops for boys. I have three boys (6,10 and 12) and none of them would countenance the idea of wearing pink.
So have Next made a monumental mistake or are my boys sartorially challenged?
By the way I don't think there's anything wrong with boys wearing pink (I quite like it) I just can't imagine any boy being brave enough to do so.

DP has a few pink and purple shirts. Thought about buying those ones in Next, but decided against it. Asked DP what he thought when I got back and he thought that we should wait and see if DS would 'like' to wear pink. At 15 months he doesn't have much say!

shimmy21 · 06/02/2006 22:12

Not in a million years.
Ds 2 was given a nice shirt with a pink stripe in it by visitors. I tried to bribe him £10 to wear it just once for their visit. Nope...
Mind you, this is the child who nursery had to have a word about because he refused to eat his dinner because it was on a pink plate. We do not instil these ideas and I am all for boys wearing pink and playing with dolls (seriously. he has picked it up soemhow all on his own.

Spidermama · 06/02/2006 22:19

I must rush to Next with my 3 nearly 4 year old as he absolutely loves pink.

Troutpout · 06/02/2006 22:26

Yes spidermama......was looking at the pink stripy stuff today...quite cute.
Dh has got a pink t-shirt though

elliott · 06/02/2006 22:40

Are these in the Next directory? I can't believe it - next are usually so dull for boys - blue/green/brown/beige. I think my ds (4) would go for it - he often says he likes pink. I won't buy it for him though as it would look hideous - he has copper coloured hair! I'm currently angsting over whether to start buying him red clothes - he keeps saying he likes red....
Pink would probably suit ds2 - he definitely wouldn't notice it was a girl's colour - he has more than a touch of camp about him!
So, when are they going to start selling sensible coloured girls clothes then?

chipmonkey · 07/02/2006 01:40

ds2 wouldn't drink the actimel-type drink in McDonalds (yes I brought them to McDonalds) because it had too much pink on the bottle and must therefore be for girls. Mind you, though, he did ask if he could "marry" his best friend (male) when they grew up.......

fairyjay · 07/02/2006 10:01

Only real men wear pink!

My dh has always liked pink - makes boring business suits look a bit more alive. And ds (13) is wearing pink tops/shirts - but not completely pink - they have to have some other colour with them!

Apparently it's cool.

no.

NikkiH · 07/02/2006 12:05

My two DS wouldn't wear it unless it was available as a football strip!

Bozza · 07/02/2006 12:10

I think Next have overdone the pink theme. DS has one pink polo shirt from there that he wears generally with some brown cords. He will be 5 in a fortnight and is at school. He has the same colouring as DD (her hair is blonder but that is because she is younger) and she doesn't get much choice. DS is quite happy with the pink shirt. DD would much prefer to wear red.

Bozza · 07/02/2006 12:11

And DH has a pink striped polo shirt i bought him for Christmas.

Rhubarb · 07/02/2006 12:12

I put my son in pink because I think he looks funny and I'm a particularly mean mum!

Marina · 07/02/2006 12:16

dh has some work shirts in various shades of pink and purple and ds (six) has never had a problem with wearing boys' tops in those colours. He wouldn't wear girls' clothes though...
dd also wears, and will continue to wear as far as I'm concerned, olive green, navy and grey girls' clothes.

Bozza · 07/02/2006 12:25

Yes I bought DD a green (sort of grass coloured) top in Next to Nothing for £2.99 yesterday so I was quite happy with that. She was too - insisted on carrying round the shop to the till and then having it back to carry round the rest of the shops with her. I do like variety for both of them really.

TinyGang · 07/02/2006 12:48

Unlikely that he would, although I wouldn't have anything against it. With two sisters in the house, I think he definately associates it with their things.

I've seen some lovely pink shirts for dh but he just laughs and says forget it. We were looking for a new car (mainly for my use) recently and looked at one that happened to be pink. Dh said he wouldn't feel comfortable driving it, but would under sufference. We didn't get it in the end; the girls adored it though (ds was not so impressed.)

Filyjonk · 07/02/2006 13:55

Yes, ds quite likes pink, I'm sure he'd go for it.

His dad has a thick woolly jumper with a big daisy on it. Ds wants to be just like daddy so we have lots and lots of t shirts etc with this flower on it. His lovely grandma even knitted him an identical one for Xmas.

PrettyCandles · 07/02/2006 13:58

Wow - I'm going to Next! I may not even wait for the sales. Our ds loves pink!

Last year I was doing a sewing class and ds asked me to make him a pink shirt. I made him a proper man's shirt, with cuffs and collar, pocket and buttons, in two-tone pink stripey cotton. Ds was absolutely delighted. I'm sure he'd love another pink top.

PrettyCandles · 07/02/2006 14:01

BTW Elliott - ds is also a coppertop, and pink looks absolutely fine on him. So does red, as long as it's a rich red - not an orangey-red.

elliott · 07/02/2006 16:27

mmmm pc, I'll take your word that your ds looks good in pink! Most of the redhead girls I've seen in pink and lilac really really don't suit it, and I don't think my ds would either. I may relent on the red though

pogface · 07/02/2006 16:50

my samba band's colours are pink and silver, so of course when i take ds (3 months) to practice he wears bright pink ear protectors. and at gig, he's in full kit! pink on boys - bring it on!

Tortington · 07/02/2006 17:42

my 16 yo wears a pink polo shirt

bannana · 07/02/2006 17:54

Tortington · 07/02/2006 17:58

pink is the new blue

cece · 07/02/2006 18:00

Have just asked ds who is 2.3 years if he would wear a pink top.

A definite no.

I asked why?

"Only (sister's name)"

so aready gender bias at two - great
