Suocera, now I think of it I knew people who made ricotta, they used the little plastic moulds, sometimes they have them in the supermarket or alimentari as the ricotta comes in that iyswim, they'd probably give you'one. Otherwise ask in an agricola if you're in a rural area.

Franca I will definitely post photos if you're interested, neither are quite finished yet though so don't hold your breath.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2012 17:00

Oh please do!!!

SuoceraBlues · 10/09/2012 18:51

will look into the riccotta moulds. Can I make that at home too?

Was a wash out muslin wise, the crisis crushed our small fabric shop over a year ago and the casalinga shop and Brico were both "no way no how, go to Pavia signora". Not flipping likely when the bus fare costs twice what what a big bit of muslin from amazon.uk costs.

Ok I had to add in twenty quid odd via two of wotsherface's book, (I love curry and easy curry or something) to get the freebie shipping....but that is not the POINT! Grin

I also forgot to buy milk and a lemon so can't even try with a clean teatowel.

On a brighter note, after a year of searching I finally found soda solvay. Was so pleased I bought four boxes and then had to lug them around the fun fair in an inadequate placcy bag while trying to find my son.

It's wierd though. A year of looking for it, but nowI have it I can't remember what I so desperatly wanted it for. All bloody Pinterest's fault, I'm sure it was something on there that gave me washing soda envy.

Sputnik · 10/09/2012 19:50

Hmm, maybe you wanted to unblock a drain or make soap? Soda is still easy to find in Rome.
You can make ricotta at home, can't remember how though. DH makes yogurt sometimes, which he then hangs in a pillowcase over the sink to make lebneh, it's an Arabic dish, very nice with salt and oil.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2012 20:10

Grin blaming pinterest. At least you are being creative and productive making your own stuff. I blame Pinterest for making me spend £££ on bloody washi tape Grin

Sputnik · 10/09/2012 20:34

Ooh do you have it stacked artistically somewhere?

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2012 20:43

Oh yeah, I have made city landscapes on my walls, used them to hang (artistically) the children's pictures, used them to wrap presents prettily.

Actually, no. I just keep them in a drawer and admire them at least once a day.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2012 20:46

But oh god yes, I dream of owning hundreds and aaawwwwww

Sputnik · 10/09/2012 21:07

Careful, or you may end up here: ashleyannphotography.com/blog/2012/09/06/washi-tape-in-guangzhou-somitape/

Francagoestohollywood · 10/09/2012 22:09

Ohmygoodness!!!!!

SuoceraBlues · 11/09/2012 06:24

Grin at the tape. I came this close to ordering lots of it cos I was going to be oh so creative with it....but then DH busted a gut due to the Pinterest inspired growing craft pile...that stayed pile shaped rather than turning into anything pretty and started making a big fuss, so I held off.

I think I will clean some floors today with my washing soda hoard. Just to justify it's existance. I sort of want to go through my Pintrest boards to see if I can remember what inspired the lust for it. But am afraid I'll go all strange again in a lcalish hunt for that American waxed paper that you have to order from bleeding Lakeland (and is not cheap+postage).

That site is EVIL! It makes me want stuff I will never really need or use and it's full of stuff you can't get in Italy so I end up with "range of products in shops" envy.

Oh ...making yogurt at home ! Don't you need live yogurt for that...is that bog standard yogurt bianco intero, or one of the "biffidus" infested ones that cause women to be snippy with each other in adverts ?

SuoceraBlues · 11/09/2012 06:26

Icalish...have no dea what I was trying to say there.

That is tragic. Five minutes after I write it I can no longer remember what concept was trying to escape my brain via uncooperative fingers.

Sputnik · 11/09/2012 11:10

Sorry can't help you with Icalish :o
You can use just about any plain yogurt. Heat some milk until you can stick your little finger in it and count up to 10 before it gets uncomfortable, wrap the pot in a blanket and leave overnight. That's it. After that you can use your own yogurt as a starter.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/09/2012 12:02

Is washing soda similar to bicarbonato? I accidentally spilled some water + bicarbonato I was using to clean the fridge and it corroded my much loved wooden floor.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/09/2012 17:40

Gio, how was ds first day at school?

BananaGio · 11/09/2012 18:01

Loved it Franca! Was a bit wobbly lipped when we left but by the end of the day when i picked him up he was full of it and told me he loved it! Phew! So have treated him to the Roma diary i refused to buy the other day as was overpriced Smile. was also in til 4.20 whereas i thought they were going to stagger it and finish earlier for a few days but seemed fine.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/09/2012 18:06

Awwww, che bello! I am happy to hear he's enjoyed it.
Quite impressed that he has started full time already, the dc will finish at 12.30 for this first week.

Sputnik · 12/09/2012 09:08

That,s great Gio :)
So what's Roma/Lazio ratio in the class?

Rosa · 12/09/2012 09:37

Hellllooooooo everybody, quick post to get me back on the thread again...well dd is in school , she seemed fine. Class is a buco as in its tiny all the others are 3 times the size with bigger desks etc.. Oh well better get used to it.

Yay Rosa, good to have you back :)

BananaGio · 12/09/2012 09:48

Spoke too soon, floods of tears this morn when dp took him as he wanted to stay for 4 hrs not 8.....ah well guess that will take some getting used to. All i know re roma / lazio so far is one of the teachers is romanista and the boy who sits next to him is napoli.
Good to have you back rosa and glad dd seems ok

Francagoestohollywood · 12/09/2012 10:23

Awwww Gio, sorry to hear that. The beginning of prima elementare can be tricky, dd cried for months, despite her liking her teacher and being eith her best friend! Bless him, lots of cuddles and encouragement when he comes home!

Ciao Rosa, happy to see you back and here's to your dd starting school, evviva all the new beginnings!

Sputnik · 12/09/2012 21:39

Hope he felt better by pick up Gio

Rosa · 13/09/2012 20:04

Only clicked yesterday that the reason that dd is in a cramoed room is that the whole school is cramped onto 1 floor until November as the restauri haven't finished... Apparently its the rest of the roof tiles - the terremoto ones, a fire staircase and other stuff. But the children don't have access to the library, palestra and the space outside ., bit of a shame but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.thankfully I can still take her for a run to release energy whilst the weather permits.....
Mini Rosa had a mini crisi apparently today mid morning but seems ok now.
How is Master Gio?

Francagoestohollywood · 14/09/2012 12:29

IOh dear. I hope the works finish on time and the children can have the whole school to themselves asap Rosa.

So, how's everyone doing? The dc are very happy to have re united with their friends. Today they are both having lunch at friends... their social life has been too hectic in the last 3 days, thank goodness tempo pieno starts on monday Grin
