Tortington · 25/11/2003 00:04

i wouldnt come if i was forced to pay! - i would just play flipside europe wordox more often ( cya there guys!)

Davros · 25/11/2003 00:19

Oh god, I meant tomboy, not tomcat!!! Sorry.

mammya · 25/11/2003 00:22

How about Gogga? Only one post from this person, abut gina Ford? even if not a troll, that's obviously someone trying to stir things up... Perhaps even a regular mumsnetter who thought mumsnet was getting a little boring?

handlemecarefully · 25/11/2003 08:28

I'm not so sure about SS - I think that's just his personality. My sister in law is the same - goes in circles recounting her problems to you, you then offer her all sorts of constructive advice which she doesn't take, because she prefers to keep wallowing in those unresolved problems. I'm going to have another re-read of the thread though to see if I change my mind - many of you are suspiscious so p'raps you are right....

SoupDragon · 25/11/2003 09:35

I'd like to think noone went through what Chameleon was talking about but I didn't think it looked at all suspect. Very detailed account and no inconsistencies. It is, however, one hell of a first post so I could see how it might look like a troll poster.

I DO think that tomboy was a troll though. There's no way to stop them and, generally speaking, they're fairly easy to spot.

bossykate · 25/11/2003 13:32

i don't think chameleon's post is suspect. she may not even be a new poster - i'd change my name for something like that.

M2T · 25/11/2003 13:35

I don't think Chameleon is a troll either, or SimpleSimon!!

Tomboy is a sh*t stirrer.... dunno if that warrants a troll as she did post some normal posts too.

PARANOIA PEOPLE????!

handlemecarefully · 25/11/2003 14:04

Ummm - I wasn't sure about SS being a troll either...and I am a bit worried that he might read this and be quite offended / hurt (as he seems over sensitive anyway)....( I'm not having a pop at those who have suggested that he may be a troll)

Like I said he reminds me of my sister in law who gets trapped and bogged down in her problems and is unable to resolve them

Forestfly · 25/11/2003 14:17

Here some help for all you Troll victims

Clarinet60 · 25/11/2003 17:28

We're not paranoid M2T, it's just that the penny has finally dropped. As rollercoaster said, some of the stuff he says just didn't ring true and he wouldn't respond to specific points. When you're asking for advice on something bothering you desperately, you home in on those points and devour them for all they are worth. You then either challenge them or try them out. SS did neither, he gave the impression he wasn't reading anything properly and if he was a troll, he wouldn't have been able to read them for laughing. You just get a feel for these things after a while. As I said earlier, being a troll might be the best end for him, because I'd hate to think that level of oddness was genuine.

roscoe · 25/11/2003 18:00

rollercoaster - I think you were very brave to name names the way you did. I hope you don't decide to leave MN.

codswallop · 25/11/2003 18:14

cant see a gogga?

roscoe · 25/11/2003 18:18

I think Gogga started a thread called "GF really works" or something similar.

charliecat · 25/11/2003 20:31

The comment that made me think ss was a troll or similar was i seem to think about it (sex) all the time and i think i might do something stupid. Its along those lines near the start for anyone who would like to see.

Rhubarb · 26/11/2003 10:43

I've not come across Tomboy. I must admit though I have spent quite a bit of time giving SS a sympathetic hearing and it seems a bit suspect that since he was first accused of being a troll, he's not come back on to defend himself. I did think he was genuine because I know so many people like that, they go round in circles expecting others to solve their problems for them. And to give him credit, it wasn't all about sex, he did say he wanted someone to reassure him that his wife still loved him and wasn't seeing anyone else. So I think I'll sit on the fence for that one.
At least there are some good replies in that post which others might find useful.

It's so hard isn't it? If you do suspect a troll, either you out them and then get severely embarrassed if they turn out to be genuine (plus risk offending them and making their situation even worse!) or you keep quiet and the troll gets away with it! Maybe we should all do a course on how to spot a genuine troll!

aloha · 26/11/2003 11:10

Tomboy was definitely a troll. One minute she's a single mum, next she wasn't.
As for Mumsnet being sexist on this issue, I really disagree. We've had a few really nasty trolls with female identities (though I very strongly believe they were actually men) posting paedophilic/S&M threads - I thought they stood out a mile, but nice MNetters still gave kind advice and even shared personal experiences that this freak was clearly getting off on. This revolting 'person' started several threads IMO and when I said they were a troll I did get some flak for being paranoid, but I was right and Mumsnet deleted the threads and removed the poster's right of access. I am usually suspicious of first time posters who come right in with something sexual, personally. Esp if they just seem to want to prolong the thread and their story doesn't quite hang together as the thread goes on.

WSM · 26/11/2003 11:46

I agree that Tomboy is a T.R.O.L.L. Gogga is a possibility, but I don't think for one minute that Chameleon is.

Forestfly · 26/11/2003 11:48

What if a troll turned up at a meet-up, wouldn't that be a bit dangerous?

M2T · 26/11/2003 11:51

I'm still failing to see where SS came acorss as pervy. Am I missing something????

Why would it be dangerous if a troll came to a meet-up? They are human.... just weird. And I assume that at a meet up you all confess which MN'tter you all are and don't disappear down dark alleys together! Or do you ???

Northerner · 26/11/2003 11:54

Do the letters in TROLL actually stand for something?

Forestfly · 26/11/2003 11:55

I've not been to one. I was just thinking that people were making out some of them were perverted sexual deviants. Getting off on talking about sex. I just wouldn't fancy meeting up with someone like that. Even though i suppose every pubs full of them.

WSM · 26/11/2003 11:56

I don't think so, was just trying to reiterate my point !

salt · 26/11/2003 12:17

Am I alone in thinking that TROLLS aren't all bad. They do liven things up a bit... should I run away now?!?

Northerner · 26/11/2003 12:19

Trolls are a fact of life. They exist in the real world too.
