For a boy.

Does it sound a bit, I've just made it up and dare I say it [whispers] chavvy

Please be honest.

Well I quite like it. It sounds like a name you ought to have heard before; you always get more fans of trad. boys' names than of girls' and I think that's a shame. And the whole 'chavvy' thing... much chavvier/soppier to go for a name the had real-world associations like Milan or Brooklyn. Millen just has a good sound to it, sounds a bit scandy like Lars or Knut...

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 22/01/2006 22:06

don;t like it I'm afraid - it sounds made up and Ihave a bit of a thing about made up names. yes (whispers), it's chavvy

mummytosteven · 22/01/2006 22:08

Don't like it. Milan rather better, but a bit silly and Beckhamish if after the city.

Milge · 22/01/2006 22:19

Both versions awful. Milan ok.

cece · 22/01/2006 22:20

I've come across a Millian, who was German.

NomDePlume · 23/01/2006 11:37

not for me, sorry

Albert · 23/01/2006 11:46

I knew a Milan once (I think he was from Hungary) and he had really bad BO, sorry but that does it for me. Also think it would be shortened to Milly, not good for a boy.

harpsichordcarrier · 23/01/2006 11:50

nope it sounds made up and (frankly) like a girl's name

Kelly1978 · 23/01/2006 11:52

not keen. Don't think it sounds chavvy personally, but still don't like it.

nailpolish · 23/01/2006 11:53

nbg i know a boy called Miller, and he suits it its really cool if you are looking for alternatives

i kind of like Millen, but it reminds me of Karen Millen, the clothes shop, so its more like a girls name to me, if that helps

Davros · 23/01/2006 12:04

Made me think of Milan Baros too (plays for Liverpool and is a bit oily!).

Spidermama · 23/01/2006 12:18

I LOVE it. It sounds classic but unusual, which is very difficult to achieve. Not at all chavvy.
MN is too stodgy about names in general IMO so go with your heart.

Enid · 23/01/2006 12:20

no I dont like it

but then I don't like any boys names, so thats me buggered if this next baby is a boy

Spidermama · 23/01/2006 12:25

Also don't forget it would only be chavvy if he is. It'll be his name and he'll own it. I agree boys names are hard. My three have all got funky names but I wouldn't dare run them by this fusty old bunch on here.

Perhaps it's also important to take into account where he'll be brought up. We're in Brighton so my boys nestle in quite nicely with the Romeo's, Roman's (love that for a boy btw), Herbie's etc.

MrsDoolittle · 23/01/2006 12:28

I don't like it, make me think of the shop Karen Millen or a fashion place in Italy.

My midwife said she recently delivered a Diamante and a Tiara!!! Now they're chavvy!!!

Nbg · 23/01/2006 12:52

Ah well you've all said what I've been thinking on this name

You do hear some classic chavtastic names here in sunny Barnsley so it would fit in well but I really don't like it now.

I think, like some of you have pointed out, if we lived in a different country it may sound "right" IYSWIM.

I quite like Lars but again not sure if it would sound right and I love Miles but dh is not keen.

Thanks for your opinions anyway

That's not chavvy, that's just fucked up.
