What does it mean? I've never heard of that name before. He might end up being called 'Millie', which probably wouldn't go down too well!

mazzystar · 22/01/2006 15:17

i googled it, its a city in Georgia, USA

Nightynight · 22/01/2006 16:05

Millen, Millan is chavvy. Hate Karen Millen shops, posh tarty stuff.

Milan is OK, like the city.

going4potty · 22/01/2006 16:25

Its a very common/ traditional indian/ hindu name dont know what it means sorry

expatinscotland · 22/01/2006 16:25

I think it's naff.

Well, you said to be honest.

going4potty · 22/01/2006 16:26

It may sound chavvy on a non indian person ???

Twigzilla · 22/01/2006 16:27

yes sounds made up and chavvy

and also reminds me of Karen Millen

Beetroot · 22/01/2006 16:27

don't like

JenumGeranium · 22/01/2006 16:28

We had a little asian girl called Millen in our nursery - she was very sweet!

WigWamBam · 22/01/2006 16:29

Don't like it ... sorry.

Miaou · 22/01/2006 16:39

Nooooo. Sorry, don't like it at all (most of my reasons have already been mentioned)

Jackstini · 22/01/2006 16:39

Milan (with an accent over the a) is Hungarian - it means kind.
As a surname Millen means 'of the mill or 'one who grinds grain' link{http://www.babiesonline.com/babynames/boybabynames/boybabynamesM.asp\see}
It is listed as a boy's name here
Still can't escape connection with Karen Millen though - some people would always think he was named after a womens clothes designer.......

littlemissbossy · 22/01/2006 16:40

They sound like surnames or made up names that Victoria Beckham would choose... sorry

Melpomene · 22/01/2006 16:41

don't like it either - sorry!

Blandmum · 22/01/2006 16:43

Don't like them, I think they sound made up. I think other children might tease.

Misspiggy · 22/01/2006 16:49

No... I'm not keen. As others have said, it sounds a bit chavtastic plus he would spend his life having to repeat it 2 or 3 times and then spelling it out every time he had to give his name. If you're looking for soemthing a bit unusual why don't you get a book of baby names or look on the Net for inspiration?

I come from Croatia and Milan (one "l") is actually a proper boy's name - I haven't met anyone younger than 45 to be called Milan so it must've been more of a generation thing But just so you know, there are countries where that's a name

Milan isn't made up, and quite cool, but I don't like your spellings. Someone has prob said this already, .haven't read the thread, sorry

lyra41 · 22/01/2006 18:49

also reminds me of the shop karen millen.

JUdgefloune · 22/01/2006 18:50

chavtastic

nooka · 22/01/2006 19:56

Agree Milan great if you are from Eastern Europe (or have connections). Silly if it is the city, and terrible if it is made up! I'm a traditional names girl myself Is there any reason why you would like it Nbg - any significance in the word, or have you actually made it up . Finally - what shortening would you use? Sorry, another no from me, but as it is your baby it's just up to you and your dh really isn't it.
